Principal’s Reflection
28 November, 2018
Week 7, Term 4
Reflection Dear Families,
This week at school we continue our celebration of Advent. We light our second
purple candle, this candle is the "Candle of Preparation," reminding us to
get ready to receive God. In Advent we keep thinking about how we can
show God we are getting ready for Jesus. When we reach out to those in need, in the way we
speak to other people, and in the way we share our gifts, we show our readiness for Jesus.
Amongst the activity with Christmas preparation there is the serious business of issuing student reports
to families. We anticipate that these will be sent out before the end of next week. Teachers at Holy Spirit
School collect a range of data over the year to inform the A-E levels for specific subjects. Transition re-
ports are in a slightly different format. It is important that you as parents are aware of the data that you
can access to monitor your child’s progress at school. Data is a way of monitoring what your child has
achieved and supports teacher planning documents as to what needs to be focused on in the next teaching
and learning cycle.
Data varies at different year levels but includes - Letter identification records, Magic 100 and 200 Words,
Mathematics Assessment interviews, South Australian Spelling, PAT-R Comprehension, PAT Mathemat-
ics, PM and Lexile reading levels, classroom observations and NAPLAN (Years 3 and 5). Parents are al-
ways welcome to contact the school so that they are regularly informed of their child’s progress.
Our final Parents and Friends fundraiser for the year is the Christmas raffle. If you have any donations to
add please send then into the front office. Tickets have gone on sale this week and are $2 each or 3 for $5.
Defence Families fun afternoon will be held this Friday in the school library organised by Chris Crim-
mings, our Defence Student Transition Aide (DSTA). Defence parents are encouraged to come along to
join he children from 1.30 – 2.30pm to be part of our end of year activities.
A reminder that our school end of year Mass is on Friday 7th December at 8:30am and our Year 6 Gradua-
tion evening on Wednesday 12th December at 6pm. Parents and friends are encouraged to come along to
these celebrations.
God bless you all and keep you safe,
Mr. Simon Duffy
Principal

Community Notices
Vinnies Christmas Appeal 2018
With Christmas fast approaching our minds may well be turning to thoughts of holidays,
family time, feasts and presents. It is worth taking the time to consider that there are
families in our community that do not look forward to Christmas, as it highlights the
hardships that they experience. Some families can't afford presents for their children or
yummy Christmas food. Each year the Holy Spirit community participates in the St Vinnies
Christmas Appeal. This is a fundraiser that assists families in our community by providing all
the "trimmings" that a family would require for Christmas.
Students at Holy Spirit are encouraged to bring in items such as food and presents that can
be distributed to people in need.
Important Information:
Please donate and send in items before Thursday 6th December 2018.
Each class room has a box for donated food and gift items.
A representative from St Vincent De Paul will be present at Friday 7th December
2018 morning assembly to receive the hampers.
Christmas Food Hamper: To uphold the dignity of those receiving the hampers, please ensure
that all food items are not due to expire for another six months. It’s important to remember the
hamper must contain non-perishable food items.
Christmas Gift/Present Hamper: When choosing a gift please consider gender and age
appropriate gifts. Please attach a note/tag in relation to age and gender that the gift is appropriate.
Food Hamper Suggestions: Christmas pudding Custard Tinned fruit Bon bons Tea

and bring joy to those who need it most by donating to the Vinnies Christmas appeal.
