GOOD BALING
REQUIRES GOOD TWINE
BEFORE USING YOUR BALER 1. Read the operating instructions carefully. 2. Check all bolts and nuts to be sure they are
tight. 3. Check all belts and chains to be sure they
are properly aligned and -adjusted. 4. Check tire pressures. 5. Lubricate the baler carefully. In general,
lubrication every 1,000 bales should be sufficient.

latch should enter the crank arm area just as the tips of the needles enter the bale chamber. Then at the point where the tips of the needles are retracted from the bale chamber the latch should be removed from the crank area. PICKUP DRIVE SLIP CLUTCH
The pickup drive slip clutch is designed to protect the pickup and related parts and to deliver a uniform flow of material into the feeding mechanism, see Figure 2. For best performance and maximum capacity it should be adjusted to slip at 1400 in.-Ibs. so that a uniform flow of material is carried into the machine and so that it SLIPS WHEN THE MACHINE IS OVER-FED or when an obstruction is encountered by the pickup teeth.
Definite signs of overfeeding are: 1. Continuous telescoping of the telescoping
link. 2. Insufficient material in left side of bale,
even though feeder sled has been properly adjusted.
3. Low capacity. When the slip clutch is too tight, too much
material can be forced into the feeder area and these signs of overfeeding result. After the pickup and feeder areas are both overloaded, and the telescoping link continuously telescopes, loss of capacity will result.
After the machine has been stored for any length of time, the slip clutch should be checked to see that it has not become frozen due to rust.
To adjust the dutch, loosen the adjusting bolts, lock the pickup and turn the flywheel to cause the clutch to slip and polish the dutch disc surfaces. Retighten the dutch adjusting bolts to compress all five tension springs to measure 1 %" as shown in Figure 2A. This will set the dutch reasonably dose to 1400 in. lb. torque.
FIGURE 2A

FIGURE n For a more accurate setting, place a bar
between the slip clutch adjusting bolts as shown in Figure 2B. Lock the flywheel and attach a spring scale at a point on the bar, 20 inches from the center of the dutch. Pull the spring scale at a right angle to the bar. For a 1400 inch-Ibs. torque setting a 70 lb. pull on the scale is required to cause the dutch to slip. Re-adjust the tension springs as required. It is important that these adiusting bolts be adjusted evenly so that all springs have the same tension.
PICKUP DRIVE OVERRUNNING CLUTCH The pickup overrunning dutch, shown in
Figure 5, allows the pickup to be driven in one direction only. This eliminates damage to the pickup teeth and related parts should the baler be turned backwards.
This dutch simply consists of two spring loaded pins which drive against lands on the drive shaft. For maximum life and efficient operation these driving pins must be kept clean and lubricated. It is recommended that the over-running dutch be disassembled, cleaned and lubricated at the start of each season.
KNOTTER/TWISTER DRIVE SHEAR BOLT The knotter/twister drive shear bolt, Figure
2, protects the knotters, needle yoke and related parts from damage. It is a specially hardened bolt, supplied by your New Holland dealer. CAUTION - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE ANY OTHER BOLT IN THIS LOCATION.
When and if this bolt shears, determine the cause for shearing, remove it, rotate the flywheel or sprocket until the bolt holes align and install a new shear bolt.
LUBRICATION The New Holland Hayliner 275 is designed
to require a minimum of lubricati~n. However, regular lubrication is the best Insuran.ce against delays and repairs, and greatly Increases the life of the machine.
Under normal conditions, the baler should be lubricated after every 1000 bales of operation.
Following is a list of the points that require lubrication, with a reference number that identifies each location on the corresponding pictures.
All points except those with special notations should be lubricated until grease is forced out around bearings and then excess grease should be wiped off.
P.T.O. MODELS ONLY 1 & 2. Figure 3. Front and rear universal.
lubricate the universal joints of the P.T.O. drive carefully with one or two pumps of a hand gun twice a week. CAUTION, EXCESSIVE LUBRICATION MAY DAMAGE THE GREASE SEALS.
