ncreased profitability
Lowest possible production costs The price of wear parts themselves is not
what matters – what matters is the production
cost/ton of crushed product. We have the
knowledge to combine long service life and
maximized production of value gradation.
Best end product quality, quantity
and gradation
The choice of working wear parts has a key
impact on many production factors – not least
the quality of the end product. The type of raw
material is one of the main considerations inthe choice of wear parts. Metso has the exper-
tise and knowledge to make these choices.
Whatever the application, we have the tools to
make production more cost-effective.
Wear parts that protectMetso certified wear parts will protect your
crushing equipment, prolong its service life
and at the same time preserve its trade-in
value. Metso has extensive experience and
competence in all kinds of wear material,
including Trellex wear resistant products.

we have the right wear parts
Gyratory crushersMetso offers a wider range of equipment and wear parts for high capacity
gyratory crushers than any other manufacturer on the market. Our wear parts for the
crushing chamber give the highest possible throughput with less stress on different
components, reduced power requirements, and evenly distributed wear patterns on both
the mantle and concaves.
Jaw crushersMetso jaw crushers are based upon a revolutionary modular, non-weld-
ed frame construction. The design offers superior fatigue strength and
reliability and gives numerous mounting options.
Combined with high-quality wear parts that are easy to replace, this
translates into exceptionally high capacity utilization, and cost-efficient
crushing.
Cone crushersMetso is committed to developing the best
possible wear parts for cone crushers as well:
this is crucial for maximum efficiency and
reliability in production. Today more than 2,000
Metso gyratory cone crushers are at work all over
the world, a testimony to their reliability and all-
round versatility.
Impact crushersMetso has over 50 years’ experience in impact crushers,
both vertical and horizontal shaft type crushers.
Our impact crushers feature a unique combination of
heavy rotor design, wear material and crushing chamber
design. The unique design of our impact crushers reduces
maintenance needs and facilitates adjustment in primary, secondary, tertiary as well as in recycling applications.
Other wear partsMetso offers almost any type of wear protecting products. Other wear parts available from
Metso include Trellex products that are made of rubber, polyurethane and ceramics – alone or
in combination. This is where our engineering shows to advantages – through our competence
to combine different materials.

Knowledge that offers
Metso is the world’s leading knowledge based
company in the crushing business. The depth
and breadth of our knowledge and expertise
gives every customer that extra bit of competi-
tive edge.
Main factors in abrasive wearingWearing occurs through various different
mechanisms, including adhesive, fatigue and
abrasive wearing. In the case of crusher wear
parts, whether working or protecting, the main
mechanism involved is abrasion by foreign
particles, which is further divided into three
types: gouging, grinding and scratching
abrasion. Depending on the crushing applica-
tion and the properties of the crushed material,
the wearing is a combination of these three
abrasion components.
Wear resistant material The most important feature of wear resistant
materials is their ability to prevent abrasive
particles from penetrating the wear part surface.
The choice of wear resistant material and itskey properties will depend upon the application
and the properties of the crushed material.
Austenitic manganese steelAustenitic manganese steel has unique proper-
ties for wear resistant applications. The most
notable of these properties are its toughness
and fatigue strength. When the surface of
austenitic manganese steel comes under an
impact load, a work hardening process occurs.
The initial hardness of the material is about 220
HV, whereas the hardened layer on the surface
can be up to 600 HV. The hard layer thicknesscan be 5-10 mm, depending on the impact load.
Austenitic manganese steel is ideally suited for
applications with high reduction ratios and
hard feed materials.
Main wearing processes in crushers
The main type of wearing that occurs in crushers will depend
upon the reduction ratio and the crushability of the feed material.
The design of effective wear parts relies crucially on this
knowledge about the crushing process.
Work hardening vs. final hardness
Long service life in manganese steel liners isan indication of a successful work hardening
process and a good hardness profile.

unique advantages
Gyratory crusher Jaw crusher
Chrome iron and martensitic steels The wear resistance of chrome is based upon
hard iron and chromium carbides in the
martensitic matrix. The matrix can have a
hardness of 500-700 HV, depending on the
heat treatment process, whereas the hardness
of the carbide formation is up to 2500 HV.
Chrome iron has certain limitations as wear
material due to its low toughness. It is best
suited for applications where the feed material
is abrasive, but where the reduction ratio and
feed strength are not very high.
Boron steelBoron steels are hot rolled plate materials. Its
wear resistance is based on the high initial
hardness of the martensitic matrix. Its nal
hardness, strength and toughness depend
upon the heat treatment procedure used. But
hardness can be 300-500 HV and yield
strength 400-1000 MPa. This material is mostly
used in fabricated protective wear parts:
linings, cheek plates, etc.
Wear in operation
With wear patterns varying in different applications, it is
essential to have the right material in the right place to
achieve the best possible cost-efficiency in production and
get the longest possible service life out of the production
equipment. Metso has the know-how to make sure that thisis indeed what happens.
Our knowledge and expertise in crus-
hing technology covers the whole chain
from design to manufacturing and ins-
tallation. It is this broad know-how that
guarantees superior reliability in everyapplication.

Own manufacturing
Metso Certified
– total quality control To make sure our customers get the right wear
parts for the right applications, experts at Metsolaboratories have ongoing research programmes to
analyze the properties of different materials. The re-
sults of their work provide a solid foundation for the
work that is done at our own foundries and manufac-
turing units to produce high-quality wear parts. This
means we have complete control over quality and
logistics at every stage of the process, from the selec-
tion of raw materials through to the final product.
All Metso foundries are ISO 9001certied. In the area
of environmental management we follow the ISO
14001 standard.
No compromises in performance The world’s biggest supplier of crusher wear parts,
Metso has a strong R&D infrastructure particularly in
areas of metallurgy and part design. Over the years
our eorts in R&D have considerably increased the
service life of wear parts. Our product range includes
all wear part materials for all crushing applications,
from compressive crushing to impact crushing, from
different manganese steel grades to chrome iron.
Experts in wear resistant steelsClose process control is essential to the production
of high-quality manganese steel, starting from the
selection of raw materials with a low content of
impurities. Every step of the manufacturing process,
including all chemical analyses and melting and heat
treatment, is recorded to make sure that the me-
chanical properties of the wear parts are as constant
as possible.
Accurate fit in every crusher The final step in the manufacturing process is
machining. This is to ensure an accurate fit in every
crusher and correct chamber shapes. Certified Metso
wear parts always give the best possible product
quality and capacity and maintain the trade-in value
of production equipment.
