From Fr. Davy’s Desk:

TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

The month of October is known as, month of the Rosary. It is important for us to consider the immense treasure of spiritual good that is found in praying of the Holy Rosary. The power of prayer of the Holy Rosary is very effective in the conversion of our hearts and of the world. We pray the rosary every day in the church. I encourage everyone to pray the rosary at home as well. A family that prays, together stays together! We pray the Joyful Mysteries on Mondays and Sat-urdays, the Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesdays and Fridays, the Glorious Mysteries on Wednesdays and Sundays and the Luminous Mysteries on Thursdays. Let us pray the rosary every day contemplating the life of Jesus. In October, we celebrate the feast of two Carmelite Saints. Saint Theresa of Lisieux and Saint Teresa of Avila. Both of them are intimately connected to the World Mission Sunday, the third Sunday of October. During my recent pilgrimage to Europe I had the privilege to visit the places where both of them lived and died. Saint Theresa of Lisieux is well known for her simple faith and suffering. Her four sisters also were nuns. She entered the convent at the age of 15. She never did anything extraordinary but lived her religious life extraordinarily well. She never held any major responsibility. Her autobiography revealed the richness of her spirituality to the world. She died at the age of 24. She offered all her suffering for the sake of missionaries. She was declared patroness of the Missions in 1927. In 1997 she was named a Doctor of the Church. In art, Theresa is represented in a Carmelite habit, holding a bunch of roses in memory of her promise to shower roses from heaven. Her feast is cele-brated on October 1. Her parents, Louis and Zelie Martin were canonized in 2015, the first married couple with children to be canonized. The presence and life style of Martin family changed the face of Lisieux. During the month of October, let us ask the intercession of mother Mary and the Carmelite Saints to inspire us to live our faith extraordinarily and make a difference in the world.
