BIOSECURITY

The Committee will be promoting the “Nine Key Points for OJD Control at Sheep Shows” recommendations and will display them at the venue along with our SheepMAP Show Audit results for your information.

In addition, a protocol has been developed to help you protect the assurance level of your sheep while at our venue:

• The shed will have been cleaned from bedding and manure after last year’s HSWF, and spelled from sheep for

12 months.

• Sheep will be penned in areas based on assurance categories:

Minimum Declaration (0 points), Low Assurance (1-2 points) Medium to High Assurance (3 points and over)

in accordance with SheepMAP recommendations.

• Different assurance categories will be penned in areas identified by signs and separated from other assurance

category sheep by a 2m distance or solid partitions.

• Exhibitors are reminded to keep their sheep in their own assurance areas.

• Food and water are to be fed a minimum of 30cm above the ground.

• All sheep/lambs are to be tethered when not led or penned in their own area.

• Sheep will not be permitted to graze.

• Manure will be promptly removed from judging areas and common areas by stewards.

• Manure and contaminated bedding will be removed to an area that stock cannot access and sheep must be kept

away from areas contaminated by bedding during pen cleaning.

• A steward will inspect the sheep for signs of ill health and may isolate unwell sheep.

• It is recommended that transport trucks are thoroughly cleaned out.

Come on down the road for a tasty meal with friends and family in our small friendly country pub.

A courtesy bus also operates on selected nights - bookings are essential.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1.Ownership of Exhibits: All exhibits to be entered and exhibited, must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor, and owned for a period not less than three months prior to exhibiting.

2. Number of entries per exhibitor: The committee reserves the right to restrict the entries of each exhibitor, should it be necessary owing to excessive entries. No exhibit or part of an exhibit may be entered in more than one class, except in ‘pair’ and ‘group’ classes where sheep must be taken from general classes.

3. Any Other Breed Classes: A breed that has not been listed for exhibition within the HS&WF schedule will be entered in the AOB classes, but, at the committee’s discretion a breed may be judged separately. Any breed that has not shown for a year may be removed from the schedule and placed in the ‘Any Other Breed’ Class. If the breed returns it will be shown in the Any Other Breed, and the following year it will qualify to have its own breed classes reinstated.

4. Responsibility of exhibitor: a) All entries must be on the correct form, and must be signed by the exhibitor, or for him/her by his/her authorized manager or agent, giving the name, residence, town and post code of the exhibitor and the number of sheep he/she intends to exhibit. All entries must state clearly and distinctly in what classes such entries are made. If an Exhibitor makes an informal entry, the Secretary shall inform such exhibitor to that effect immediately after the closing of the entries. Such exhibitor has the right to amend informal entries within seven days of the closing date of entries. b) The exhibitor making an entry is responsible for the statements on the entry form being true and correct in every particular. Entries shall be deemed to have been made and accepted subject to these regulations. The signing of the entry form and health status form on the reverse side, for any exhibit, is accepted by the Committee as a guarantee that the animal specified thereon is free from all diseases as far as known to the owner. In case of infectious disease being spread through, or by, an exhibit, the exhibitor only, not the HS&WF Committee, shall be held responsible. c) The Committee has the power to refuse admission to, or cause to be removed from the show, any exhibit affected by parasite, contagious or other disease.

5. Registration: All sheep entered must be registered, or eligible for registration, in the appropriate flock book.

6. Entry Fees: Entries are $10 per entry per class in all show classes for sheep and $2 per fleece per class in the fleece section. Schools entering in the Open Section will have free entry to the Schools’ Sheep Competition, but those schools only entering in the Schools’ Competition must pay entry fees for that section.

7. Membership: a) Each exhibitor (excluding fleece only exhibitors) must be a member of the HS&WF. b) Annual membership is available for $15.

8. Shearing: a) All merino sheep over one year of age must carry not more than twelve month’s wool or have an autumn shearing tag. Sheep which have been shorn to conform with interstate shearing regulations will be accepted. b) No shorn long wool sheep may have more than 4cm of wool on any part of its body. c) No shorn short wool sheep may have more than 2cm of wool on any part its body.

9. Entry Closing: Entries for the 2021 HS&WF will close on Friday 14th May 2021.

10. Arrival and Departure: The committee will advise exhibitors of arrival times. Late arrivals may be refused entry to the show. Departure times will also be advised. Early departure without special permission of the Committee may result in the forfeiture of all prizes, disqualification from future entry and expulsion from the Society.

12. Pens: Penning arrangements will separate breeders’ teams and will be in line with all regulations to the separation of animals in regards to Ovine Johnes status. Additional hurdles for the subdivision of pens will be available on request to the Committee.

13. Judging: a) The judging of all breed classes will take place on the Thursday of the event, with Interbreed classes judged that same day. A specific schedule of times will be provided at the event. b) The Committee will appoint skilful persons as judges, who, in forming their opinion, will particularly attend to any instruction provided for their guidance. c) Stewards will be nominated to assist the judges.

14. Championships: All winners of individual classes are eligible for the judging of the Championship for each sex in each breed. When the Championship has been awarded, the second placegetter in the class won by the Champion is eligible to enter the judging of Reserve Champion.

15. Trophies: Where trophies are allotted for the most successful exhibitor in any section, points will be allotted in individual, pair and group classes on the basis of: 3 points for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd place, 1 point for a 3rd place.

16. Display of Exhibits and Awards: a) All exhibits must be available for public viewing during the time the show is open to the public. b) Only those ribbons awarded at the current show may be displayed on or near the exhibits.

17. Non-exhibition of entries: a) No entry fees will be refunded if entries are cancelled after the closing date or if entries are not presented at the competition. b) Failure to present exhibits for further stages of the competition for which the exhibits may have become eligible (Championships, Interbreed etc.) may result in the forfeiture of prizes, disqualification and expulsion from the Society.

18. Indemnity: a) The Society will not be responsible for any accident that may be caused through or by any exhibit or exhibitor, and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold the committee harmless and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from such accident. b) The committee will not be held responsible, under any circumstances whatever, for exhibits, for any damage, or injuries thereto, or for loss or mis-delivery thereof.

19. Committee: The committee reserves the right to accept or reject any entry or exhibit. Any dispute as to the interpretation of the regulations shall be determined by the committee, whose decision shall be final and shall not be open to question on any ground whatsoever. It may inform itself of the facts in any way it thinks appropriate and shall not be obliged to give any reason for its action. The committee shall be represented in any formal situation during the show by the President and any two stewards.

20. Protests and Complaints: Protests or complaints in writing against any exhibitor or exhibit must be lodged with the Secretary as soon as they become apparent, together with a $50 deposit, which may be forfeited if the protest or complaint is considered frivolous. A protest about a particular class or championship must be lodged within 30 (thirty) minutes of the judging of the class or championship. Any protest or complaint shall be dealt with by the committee. When considering a protest or complaint, the onus of proof of bona fide of the exhibit, or of compliance with the regulations shall rest upon the exhibitor, unless the committee shall otherwise direct.

21. Behaviour: The committee will not tolerate offensive or abusive behaviour and reserves

the right to remove the offender from the Holbrook Sporting Complex.
