NOTES FROM LONG BEACH STATE TAKEDOWNTexas A&M’s series sweep of Long Beach State was notable for a variety of reasons. Some notes from the series are below.- The 19 runs scored in Saturday’s win was the most against Long Beach State since Cal State Fullerton scored 22 in 1992.- The 27 runs for the series was the most in a three-game set against LBSU since Vanderbilt scored 31 in 2013.- The 24-run margin was the largest against LBSU since 1998 when Fresno State outscored the 49ers 48-3 in a three-game series.

NOTES FROM CORNELL TAKEDOWNTexas A&M’s 22-0 victory over Cornell was notable for a variety of reasons. Some notes from the victory are below.- 29 hits against Cornell was one shy of the school record of 30 set at Texas Tech on April 30, 1985.- The 22 runs was the most for the Aggies since logging a 22-2 victory over Wake Forest at the 2016 College Station Regional.- The 22 runs was the widest margin of victory for the Aggies since topping Westmont, 31-2 in 1991. It’s also the widest margin of victory for Texas A&M against a Division

I school since a 27-2 win at Texas Tech on March 24, 1989.- The 22 runs was the widest margin of victory for the Aggies in shutout since posting a 26-0 victory against Rice in the 1942 regular-season finale.

CLOSING NOTESThe Aggies return 15 of their 16 saves from last season, but seven return to the starting rotation with MITCHELL KILKENNY. The bullpen is anchored by CASON SHERROD

with four saves and KAYLOR CHAFIN who recorded all three of his saves in the Aggies’ NCAA Championship run to the College World Series. LANDON MINER and Tristen Bayless account for the two other saves.

IRON MANAs a freshman, BRADEN SHEWMAKE was the only Aggie to start all 64 games in 2017. The Aggies had three

other players appear in all 64 games in 2017, including Nick Choruby, Austin Homan and GEORGE JANCA.With his current string at 93 consecutive starts, Shewmake is the only Aggie with an active start streak longer

than 30 games.

JANCA’S SENIORITYWith no returning four-year player in the batting order, GEORGE JANCA entered the season as the team leader

in games played (90) and games started (84). He’s currently up to 112 games played and 100 starts. For the first time in the Rob Childress era, the Aggies entered the season without a player who has appeared

in at least 100 games.

HELMAN’S MICHAEL HELMAN started the season with a 27-game streak of reaching base via hit, walk or hit-by-pitch. It

marked the longest streak for an Aggie since Nick Banks reached in 42 straight games in 2015. In the second game of the Georgia series, Helman had a hit streak snapped at 20 games. It was tied for the ninth longest streak in school annals and the longest since Mikey Reynolds’ 22-gamer in 2013.

For the season, Helman has reached base in 28 of the 29 games.

POSTSEASON STREAK CONTINUES INTO 2018Prior to the arrival of head coach ROB CHILDRESS, Texas A&M had never appeared in the NCAA Tournament

more than four consecutive years. Last season’s College World Series run extended the Aggies’ current string to 11 consecutive years, something that had never happened before in the program’s 115 year history.

Previously, the Aggies put together two strings of four consecutive NCAA Championship appearances. Former head coach Tom Chandler led his squad to the NCAA Regionals each season from 1975 to 1978 and 11 years later the Aggies enjoyed a similar four-year run from 1986-89 under the direction of head coach Mark Johnson.
