Meat Fare Sunday — Matthew 25; 31-46 The two past Sundays spoke to us of God's patience and
limitless compassion, of His readiness to accept every sinner
who returns to Him. This Sunday we are reminded of a
complimentary truth: no one is so patient and so merciful as
God, but even He does not forgive those who do not repent.
The love of God is also a God of righteousness, and when
Christ comes again in glory, He will come as our Judge.
"Behold the goodness and severity of God." (Romans 11; 22)
The message of Lent and the Year of Mercy is this; we are to
be merciful as our Heavenly Father is merciful. We will be
judged according to charity, or lack of charity by hardening of
our hearts towards others and in failing to respond to the
opportunities we are given of helping them, we are already
passing judgment on ourselves.
"It is my burning desire that, during this Jubilee, the
Christian people may reflect on the corporal and spiritual
works of mercy. It will be a way to awaken our conscience,
too often grown dull in the face of poverty. And let us enter
more deeply into the heart of the Gospel where the poor have a
special experience of God's mercy. Jesus introduces us to these
works of mercy in his preaching so that we can know whether
or not we are living as his disciples. Let us rediscover these
corporal works of mercy; to feed the hungry, to give drink to
the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, heal the
sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead. And let us not
forget the spiritual works of mercy; to counsel the doubtful,
instruct the ignorant, admonish sinners, comfort the afflicted,
forgive offences, bear patiently to those who do us ill,
and pray for the living and dead.
We cannot escape the Lord's words to us, and they will
serve as criteria upon which we will be judged: whether we
have fed the hungry and given drink to the thirsty, welcomed
the stranger, and clothed the naked, or spent time with the sick
and those in prison (Matthew 25: 31-45). Moreover, we will
be asked if we have helped others to escape the doubt that
causes them to fall into despair and which is often a source of
loneliness; if we have helped to overcome the ignorance in
which millions of people live, especially children deprived of
the necessary means to free them from the bonds of poverty; if
we have been close to the lonely and afflicted; if we have
forgiven those who offended us and have rejected all forms
of anger and hate that lead to violence; if we have the kind of
patience God shows, who is so patient with us, and if we
have commended our brothers and sisters to the Lord in
prayer. In each of the "little one"', Christ himself is present.
His flesh becomes visible in the flesh of the tortured, the
crushed, the scourged, the malnourished and the exiled…to be
acknowledged, to be touched, and cared for by us. Let us
not forget the words of St. John of the Cross: "as we prepare
to leave this life, we will be judged on the basis of
love." (Pope Francis-Misericordiae Vultus-Bull of Indiction of
the Extraordinary Year of Mercy #15) 'O faithful, while fasting bodily, let us also fast in spirit. Let
us loosen every bond of injustice; let us tear apart the strong
chains of violence; let us rip up all unjust assertions; let us
give bread to the hungry and welcome the poor and homeless
to our houses, that we may receive from Christ our God, his
great mercy.' (Lenten Triodion)
М'ясопусна Неділя "Господь гряде, і хто стерпить Його страх, хто явиться перед лицем Його, але, душе моя, будь готова на стрічу" (Третя пісня канону утрені М'ясопусної неділі) Притча про блудного сина минулої неділі символічно показала нам незглибиме милосердя Бога, який приймає навіть найбільшого грішника, коли той кається і шкодує, що здійснив гріхи. Та щоб хтось не наважився грішити тільки тому, що Господь Бог милосердний і простить йому, то свята Церква у двох наступних неділях для перестороги наводить дві справді драматичні сцени: день Страшного Суду і вигнання з раю наших прародичів — Адама й Єви. Ці дві сцени змальовують нам Божу справедливість. У М'ясопусну неділю святе Євангеліє говорить про день Страшного Суду, а Сиропусна неділя оплакує вигнання наших прародичів з раю. Неділя Блудного Сина наче говорила до нас: "Блудні діти, заверніть з дороги гріха та в покорі й каятті вертайтеся до батьківського дому, бо наш Отець Небесний безконечно милосердний, то простить і вам". — А М'ясопусна й Сиропусна неділі грізним тоном перестерігають нас: "Господь Бог не тільки безконечно милосердний, але й безконечно справедливий, тож не грайтеся з гріхом, але бійтеся строгої руки Божої справедливости й кари". День Страшного Суду всім нам пригадує велику відповідальність, яка чекає на кожного з нас за наше життя. А швидка й дуже строга Божа кара, що впала на наших прародичів за один-єдиний тяжкий гріх, переконує кожного, що з Богом не можна жартувати. Тож одна й друга неділя доводять нам необхідність виправлення нашого життя, посту й покути, жалю за гріхи, бо тільки тоді зможемо мати надію на Боже милосердя у день Страшного Суду.
Проповідь на Стрітення Господнє «Нині відпускаєш у спокої раба Твого, Владико».
Це ті праведники, які, починаючи від праотців Адама і Єви, втратили право на рай, втратили перспективу радісного й блаженного вічного життя з Творцем і повернули її тільки з приходом Сина Божого, Який прийшов відкупити всі гріхи й беззаконня, переступи, недуги і прокляття людства. І не дивно, що, відчуваючи своїм серцем це повернення вічности для людини, а не тільки завершення власного життєвого шляху, Симеон і виголошує цей радісний гімн, який ми повторюємо так часто, на кожній вечірні наприкінці служби (Лк. 2:29-32). Але разом із тим, вслухаючись у слова прощального гімну Симеона, ми, буває, не надаємо належного значення тим словам, що пролунають пізніше. Праведник передчуває не тільки радість прощення, визволення і спасіння, радість відкуплення провин - він провіщає поділи, випробування, він провіщає самій Пресвятій Богородиці, що її душу прошиє меч (Лк. 2:22-40). Цей образ стосується не тільки страждань Богородиці біля хреста. Він може бути віднесений до всього життя Пресвятої Діви, життя, повного випробування Її віри.Чого вартий той момент, коли до Неї прибігли невідомі люди і, зловтішаючись, сказали, що Її Син, напевне, збожеволів, бо говорить якісь дивні речі. подивитися, що там діється, і забрати Свого Сина від наруги. А скільки таких моментів, не відображених у Євангелії, ще було! Скільки разів Вона знов і знов мала повертатися до тих об’явлень, які мала, і думати: «А чи правда все це, чи Він насправді є Божим Сином, Месією, чи Я не помилялася?» І кожного разу Вона для Себе мусила складати іспит твердости Своєї віри.Перед цим іспитом ставиться кожна людина. Саме звідти – перспектива поділів, про які говорить Симеон. «Так» або «ні» – кожен із нас протягом цілого свого життя мусить відповідати на ці питання, вирішуючи, дотримуватися чи не дотримуватися заповідей, іти до церкви чи не йти, молитися чи не молитися, вірити чи не вірити. Бог дає нам право обирати, залишає за нами це право. Христос приходить не для того, щоб відібрати в людей право вибору, яке так фатально позначилося на долі наших праотців і всього людського роду.Ні. Він іде допомогти нам у його здійсненні, не позбавляючи нас свободи. Христос допомагає нам використати, як належить, цю свободу, залишаючи за нами остаточне слово: з Ним або проти Нього. Такий підхід продукує диктатури, рабство, і, зрештою, терор, жертвами якого стають тисячі або й мільйони людей.Ми часто не вміємо оцінити цей великий дар, який позначає нас печаттю Божих дітей, - образу і подоби Божої. А Господь підносить нас до рівня співтворців майбутнього разом із Ним. І тому Христос іде не для того, щоб відібрати у нас біль. Він залишає нам біль і переживання вибору. Але Він же дає приклад допомоги нам: не стаючи попереду, не виявляючи Себе відразу, Він кладеться як Немовлятко в руки праведного Симеона, показуючи: ось так ми самі маємо співіснувати з іншими людьми. Через відкритість, довіру, через готовність віддати себе на жертву за іншого – саме так і твориться наше майбутнє, допомогти у простуванні в яке і приходить до нас Спаситель. Той Спаситель, Якого в цей день радісно зустрічає у храмі праведний Симеон, виголошуючи: «Нині відпускаєш у спокої раба Твого, Владико». Амінь. Архиєпископ Ігор (Ісіченко)
Десять Pравил Великого Pосту Ми часто чуємо і говоримо про Великий піст як про особливий час у житті Церкви: час тривалішої молитви, обмеженні себе у всіх сферах життя, час уважного ставлення до свого духовного стану. Щоб провести Великий піст з Господом і Його учнями, а не перетворити його на півтора місяця важкої і безглуздої дієти, рекомендуємо дотримуватися декількох важливих правил.
1. Завжди радійте! Завжди радійте, невпинно моліться, за все дякуйте (1 Тес. 5, 16-18) - мудра порада апостола як ніколи актуальна у великопосні дні. Велика спокуса впасти у зневіру: Як же я проживу без смачної їжі! Тепер ніяких розваг! Які довгі служби! Тоді як причин для зневіри немає. Довгі служби - це і високі зразки середньовічної духовної поезії, і філософські роздуми про місце людини у вічності, й відчуття єдності з іншими людьми, що молилися, і спілкування з Самим Богом. Не рідше, а то й частіше, можна стикнутися й з іншим боком великопосної зневіри: Я не можу постити за уставом.
Я пропускаю служби. Я відволікаюся на мирську суєту. Банально, але від того не менш справедливо: пам'ятайте, що Богові потрібні не шлунок і ноги, а серце, Він бачить у душі людській щире прагнення послужити Йому, бачить і немочі. Ось це постійне пам'ятання про Бога - і буде нашою невпинною радістю про Нього.
2. Безперестанку моліться! Ні, звичайно, всі ми не мусимо за час посту перетворитися на ісихастів, але спробувати стати на півкроку ближче до ідеалу можна. Молитві варто приділити трохи більше часу, ніж зазвичай. Більше уваги на службах - іноді варто взяти з собою книгу з текстами богослужіння. Ретельніше виконувати молитовне правило - встати з-за комп'ютера на півгодини раніше і прочитати вечірні молитви. Додати молитву преподобного Єфрема Сирійського. В дорозі послухати або почитати Псалтир. З численними великопосними спокусами корисно боротися молитвою: на роздратування, гнів, зневіру самому собі відповідати короткою молитвою Ісусовою.

SEVEN DEADLY SINS / SEVEN LIVELY VIRTUES The seven deadly sins are patterns of dysfunction that lead us to unhappiness. Bishop Barron explains the pervasiveness of pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust and shows us how to counteract these sinful patterns with through a conscious focus of opposition, which are the “seven lively virtues”. The seven lively virtues offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness. EUCHARIST — Sacred Meal, Sacrifice, Real Presence Take a deeper look at the “source and summit” of our Faith, the Eucharist. Bishop Barron brings to light the Blessed Sacrament’s reality as a sacred meal, the sacrifice necessary for communion with God, and as the Real Presence of Christ. TRE ORE – The Seven Last Words of Christ
The “Three Hours Agony” or Tre Ore is a liturgical service held on
Good Friday from noon to 3 o’clock to commemorate the Passion of
Christ. Specifically, it refers to the three hours that Jesus hung on the
Cross and includes a series of homilies on the seven last words of
Christ. Father Barron was invited by Cardinal Timothy Dolan to
preside over the Tre Ore service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New
York, and the content of his presentation is being featured here.
