Germans took his shoes near St. Vith. Many 106th and 99th Division soldierscaptured. Held five days. Walked a long way to POW camp. Worked digging gunemplacements at Falmmersheid. Broke a Red Cross box and took contents. Had no foodfor five days. American master sergeants were "taken care of" after the war. Lost weightto 110 pounds on 6' 1".

12 February 1945. Got to Stalag 4B between Leipzig and Dresden. Dehydrated. Lice.Needed shots. Italian medics gave tetanus shots.

23 April 1945. Russians on horseback with sabers liberated us. On Monday, Russians arrived.12,000 Russians, 10,000 British, 2,000 Americans. Germans left Friday. Russians keptthem 13 days. Walked 13 km to German town for six or seven days. Russians keptAmericans prisoners to get food allowance. Walked out toward Torgau. Eventually gotto Americans. Germans had vicious dogs in the compounds. Prisoners had BBC news.

Henri Rogister of Liege, Belgium asked about Malmedy.I was in a lead vehicle that met German tanks. SS tanker killed a civilian kid on a motor bike.

Americans hit a German fuel vehicle with a mortar shell. Many Germans were killed. Wehad to bury them. Gruesome. Buried Germans first and left the Americans. Resistanceat the American lines. Malmedy massacre occurred soon after capture.
