THE MEASUREMENT OF BODY COMPOSITION IN CHILDREN
THROUGH A TABLE OF BMI, LANGE CALIPER MACHINE OF BIO-IMPEDANCE, AND DEXA
Ernesto Sánchez Burgos22.03.2011
SUMMARY
BODY COMPOSITION MEASUREMENT OF BODY COMPOSITION LANGE CALIBRE MACHINE OF BIO-IMPEDANCE ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE CONCLUSIONS BIBLIOGRAPHY
BODY COMPOSITION
Proportion of
fat
muscle + bones fat-free
in the body
MEASUREMENT OF BODY COMPOSITION
BMI = weight (kg) / height2 (m)
To know to could predict futures
problems of health(Lohman, 1986)
MEASUREMENT OF BODY COMPOSITION
Observation of different aspects, like: • Figure• Posture body• Functionality of
body • Balance between
different part of body
• Distribution of the fats and muscle
LANGE CALIPER% Body Fat
%BF = 0.465 + 0.18 (∑5 x 1.4) –
0.0002406 (∑5 x 1.4)² + 0.0661 (age)
(Ball et. al, 2004)
Two point (Triceps and Subscapula)
to predict a % of body fat
(Dezenberg et al, 1999)
MACHINE OF BIO-IMPEDANCE
This method is the “best” to measure the estimation of fat-
free mass, fat mass and percentage body fat (Tyrrellet et al, 2001)
DEXA %fat fat mass / height2
lean mass / height2
appendicle lean mass / height2
%fat trunk / %fat legs ratio
trunk / limb fat mass ratio of fat
bone mineral content
(Kelly et al, 2009)

CONCLUSIONS Knowledge of our pupils is essential to give
every one that he/she necessity Observation in our students is very
important; their behaviors, their movements, their body posture… their non-verbal communication
No method is the best to apply in every schools
To spend time in our class to measure the health of our pupilsis the best way to teach how important this is
