Intentional Disciples: Why Me! As part of our parish ongoing spiritual formation all Adult Liturgical Ministers are invited to attend a spiritual retreat on Saturday, September 28th from 9am-1pm. Stages in Becoming a Disciple of Jesus Christ Fr. Kevin’s Report #5 from August 17 Retreat

Research suggests that there are five stages (“thresholds”) in the process of becoming disciples of Jesus Christ. Last week I wrote on the first two stages.

The Five Thresholds of Conversion 1. Initial Trust 4. Spiritual seeking 2. Spiritual curiosity 5. Intentional discipleship 3. Spiritual openness

3rd Threshold: Spiritual openness Moving from curiosity to openness involves a tentative openness to God and the possibility of spiritual change. At this stage, one must lower defenses (cynicism, antagonism), and acknowledge to God and oneself that one is open to change. Common catalysts of openness include starting a new job or school, new relationships, illness/tragedy/loss, someone else’s witness of faith, participation in good works, media (books, movies, music, art, internet), witnessing God at work in someone’s life. 4th Threshold: Spiritual Seeking Seeking is active; intentionally exploring, deepening one’s relationship with Christ and his Church as a disciple. “I need to make a decision.” At this point, one counts the costs: Take up your cross, love God above everyone else, detach-ment from worldly goods. Seekers seek Jesus when they are moved by hearing his story and are brought to the deci-sion to entrust oneself to Him by faith.

Etapas para hacerse discípulo de Jesucristo Reporte del Padre Kevin 5 del Retiro del 17 de agosto

La investigación sugiere con las cinco etapas en el proceso de convertirse en discípulos de Jesucristo. La semana pa-sada escribí sobre las dos primeras etapas.

Las cinco etapas de Conversión

1. La Confianza 4. La Búsqueda Espiritual 2. La Curiosidad Espiritual 5. El Discipulado Intencional 3. La Apertura Espiritual

Tercero Umbral: apertura espiritual: Pasar de la curiosidad de apertura implica una apertura provisional a Dios ya la posibilidad de un cambio espiritual. En esta etapa, hay que bajar las defensas (el cinismo, el antagonismo) y reco-nocer a Dios y que uno mismo está abierto a los cambios. Catalizadores comunes de apertura incluyen un nuevo traba-jo o la escuela, nuevas relaciones, enfermedad / drama / pérdida, el testimonio de otra persona de la fe, la participación en las buenas obras, los medios de comunicación (libros, películas, música, arte, internet), siendo testigo de Dios que actúa en la vida de alguien. Cuarto Umbral: búsqueda espiritual: Buscando activamente; explorar intencionalmente, la profundización de la relación de uno con Cristo y su Iglesia como un discípulo. "Tengo que tomar una decisión." En este momento, se cuenta los costos: Toma tu cruz, amar a Dios por encima de todos los demás, el desapego de los bienes terrenales. Candida-tos buscan a Jesús cuando se mueven al escuchar su historia y se llevan a la decisión de confiarse a Él por la fe. Quinto Umbral: Discipulado Intencional: Los apóstoles "dejaron caer sus redes" . Seguir a Jesús como discípu-lo es diferente de tratar. Podemos acostumbrarnos a "buscar y no encontrar nunca" y se siente que el compromiso es imposible. En esta etapa, tenemos que ser alentados a tomar una decisión y repetimos el proceso anterior en los mo-mentos críticos en nuestro camino espiritual.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

September 12th, at its regular monthly meeting, the Finance Council reviewed the weekly collections report. It was concluded that the Parish is best served by weekly reporting the actual collection basket contributions as represented by the weekly deposit. On a monthly basis, after our regular meeting on the 2nd Thursday of the month, the Finance Council will release the actual combined col-lections total and the budget on a year to date basis. The amounts will include the Sunday collections, Parish Pay amounts and any holy day collections received as well as any adjustments such as returned checks. I will provide more details on the budgeting pro-cesses when I present the annual financial results in October.

For July and August 2013 the total amount collected from Parish Pay, Holy Days, and the Sunday Collections was $144,158. The Budget for July and August 2013 year to date was $138,018. So far this year we have collected $6,140 more than anticipated. Last year actual collections for July and August were $132,016. El presupuesto correspondiente a julio y agosto de 2013 hasta la fecha fue de $138,018 dólares. Hasta ahora este año hemos recauda-do $6,140 más de lo previsto. El año pasado las colectas reales de los meses de julio y agosto fueron $132,016. Estas cantidades reflejan la actividad actual y los ajustes necesarios, tales como los artículos devueltos.
