  • COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

    AR15 ARMORERNed Christiansen

Held At: The ConCorde Inn This class will demystify every aspect of the Stoner system as embodied in the AR15 / M16 series. Students will gain a thorough understanding of the fire control group, gas system, and bolt group through pictures, animations, high speed video, and cutaways. Each student will disassemble and reassemble his own rifle several times. Discussion will cover maintenance, preventative measures, and repair of certain areas more prone to failure as well as areas that fail less regularly. Barrel change and buffer tube removal will also be demonstrated and discussed. Several design aspects that many manufacturers continue to inadequately address, causing serious problems for the end user, will also be covered. Lube, accessories, and ammo selection will be touched upon.

No time will be spent on things like memorizing model numbers and nomenclature or disassembling rear sights—only the aspects critical to keeping the gun safe, reliable, durable, and in the fight are covered.

Students absolutely must have eye protection and should bring a flat-bladed screw driver and a small bottle of lube. Students will be provided a 3/16 Allen wrench, a hand punch disassembly tool of Ned’s design, and a copy of Patrick Sweeney’s book, Gunsmithing the AR15. Ned’s proprietary tools will be available to fine-tune students’ rifles during class.

    Instructor Bio:

Ned Christiansen is an armorer and gunsmith known for his custom 1911 pistols. He has over 35 years’ experience with the AR15 system, having used it in many forms of competition, hunting, and training. He is an instructor with North East Multi-

Regional Training, an Illinois state-funded police training organization and is the Armorer for and has been a guest speaker at the National Patrol Rifle Conference and Competition. Ned’s classes have been hosted by Illinois Tactical Officers Ass’, Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy, Ohio Tactical Officers Association, Dept. of Energy, Oakland County MI SWAT and many individual departments and non-LE groups. He manufactures several tools for working on the AR15 that have become must-haves for armorers and enthusiasts.

    BALLISTIC SHIELD DEPLOYMENTSNick Kokot

Held At: Macomb Community College Police Academy21901 Dunham RoadClinton Township, MI 48036

Think of the ballistic shield as a dynamic, portable ballistic corner, between the law enforcement agent and the suspect. The ballistic shield has traditionally been taught to be deployed in a slow, thorough and methodical, defensive tempo. This block of instruction WILL NOT focus on utilizing the ballistic shield in a “defensive” manner. Rather, this block will expose the attendee to the offensive capabilities of the ballistic shield in close quarters conflict. This course will introduce the attendee to the unique dynamics and options associated with ballistic shield applications during critical incidents. Attendees will also receive recommendations on the equipment and ancillary equipment options.

It is recommended that a minimum of two (2) members per agency attend, as the curriculum stresses the operation of a two (2) man element when deploying a ballistic shield.

    Instructor Bio:

Nick has been a police officer with the East Chicago (IN) Police Department for over seventeen (17) years. He has served in the capacities of patrol officer, tactical deployment unit member, Field Training Officer (F.T.O.), and firearms and tactics instructor for his department. Nick has also served as an instructor for the original Surefire Institute and currently serves as an instructor for Strategos International.

In 2012, Nick established his own training company, Black Cat Tactical. Nick has previously presented at tactical conferences, as well as having instructed from the academy level of probationary law enforcement personnel all the way up to members of the military’s elite units.

    DIRECT ACTION PISTOLDave Spaulding

    Held At: Selfridge ANG Base

Course description: Law enforcement use of the handgun has traditionally been reactive/reflexive in nature due to court rulings that require deadly force to be “reasonable based on the circumstances at hand”. This requirement means the officer is most likely responding to the action(s) of a suspect as a situation unfolds second by second. The offender could drop the gun and give up or turn and fire at a moment’s notice. SWAT use of the pistol is still subject to such legal requirements, but the pistol’s application is more offensive in nature due to entry/raid applications. This 8 hour course of instruction is directed specifically at the SWAT/Tactical officer and will deal with the use of the semi-automatic pistol in a team-based CQB environment, working in and around team members.

    DYNAMIC PISTOL TECHNIQUESPetros Milionis

Held At: Blue Water Sportsman AssociationRange Rd. Port Huron

This eight hour block of pistol training will begin with focusing on performing surgical shooting in CQB/ Hostage Rescue situations where an accurate shot needs to be taking under tight time constraints. The student will learn to move into position quickly through a variety of drills thus reducing the time to take the shot.

The afternoon portion will take the student to extended distances focusing on precision shooting with a pistol from cover. Shooting positions and moving into and out of position will be covered in detail. Overall the student will be able to reduce the time it takes them to get into position to fire the shot through the blending of competitive and tactical shooting techniques.

    Equipment List:

    • Ammunition: 450 rds• Pistol w/ 4 magazines. • Belt type holster with magazine

pouches. No cross draw holsters. • Gloves, knee pads, and any other
