Asha joined Acadian in 2007 and is the lead portfolio manager and director of responsible investing. In this role, Asha is responsible for building Acadian’s ESG principles by leading ESG research and subsequent integration of ESG factors throughout Acadian’s investment process and serving as the chair of our Responsible Investment Committee. Asha has extensive experience working with ESG considerations to create bespoke solutions. Prior to joining Acadian, Asha worked as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and at Johnson & Johnson in a strategy role. Early in her career, she conducted microfinance lending in India. Asha holds an M.B.A. with Honors from The Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania) and undergraduate degrees from Stanford University. Asha is a CFA charterholder and a Board Member of CFA Society Boston. She was named one of the Top 10 Women in Asset Management by Money Management Executive in 2016.

Valerie Grant is a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager in the Equities Department at AllianceBernstein LP where co-manages Responsible US Equities, a Large Cap US equities portfolio designed to optimize return, risk and responsibility.  In addition, she engages with clients and prospects on AB’s capabilities in Responsible Investing as AB expands its presence in this area.  Valerie is a member of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board’s Standards Advisory Group.  Previously, she was a senior research ana-lyst covering the media, Internet and consumer-discretionary sectors for the US and Global Large Cap Value portfolios. Prior to that role, she covered the healthcare and consumer discretionary sectors for the firm’s US Small/Mid-Cap Value team. Grant joined AB in 2006 as a short specialist for the Advanced Value and Global Opportunities Funds. Prior to that, she managed corporate acquisitions, divestitures and licensing transactions in the Corpo-rate Development Group at Bristol-Myers Squibb. Grant holds a BS in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA, with high distinction, from Harvard Business School. She was also a Rotary Foundation Scholar in the Department of Economics at the University of Zimbabwe and is a CFA charter holder.

Lauren McAdams, CAE, is the Director, Society Relations, for the Americas region at CFA Institute. In this role, Lauren supports the partnership between CFA Institute and CFA member societies, providing consultative services related to board governance, business & strategic planning, and supporting advocacy & thought leadership activities through local societies. Lauren earned her BA in American Government from the University of Virginia, and received the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Associa-tion Executives (ASAE). Lauren will receive an MBA from Villanova University in December 2019.

Andrew D. Knox is Institutional Portfolio Manager for Franklin Real Asset Advisors, with pri-mary responsibility for providing clients with perspective and insight on FRAA’s private and public real estate and listed infrastructure products globally.

With over 22 years of experience in the investment industry, Mr. Knox has held positions in portfolio management, research, and client service within both the institutional and high net worth markets. Since joining Franklin Templeton in 2006, Mr. Knox has been responsible for managing and developing institutional client relationships in Western Canada and was a member of the Franklin Templeton Institutional Asset Mix Committee since 2008. From Feb-ruary 2011 until December 2017, Mr. Knox was the co-lead manager of the Franklin Templeton Institutional Balanced Trust. Over his tenure, Mr. Knox has designed and implemented invest-ment solutions for a diverse client base - including pension and benefit plans, educational endowments, First Nations, foundations, individuals and corporations. Mr. Knox also served as a member of the Franklin Templeton Pension Committee, a Defined Contribution Pension Plan with 700 members and $70 Million in AUM.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Knox was a portfolio manager and analyst for a major Canadian investment counsellor. Mr. Knox holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Manitoba. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and a Chartered Alterna-tive Investment Analyst (CAIA) Charterholder.

Soami Kohly, CFA, FSA, FCIA, is an investment officer and fixed income portfolio manager with MFS Investment Management® (MFS®). In his role, he is responsible for final buy and sell decisions, portfolio construction, risk assessment and cash management. He partici-pates in the research process and strategy discussions.

Soami joined MFS in 2009. Previously, he spent three years with RBC Capital Markets as an associate analyst in equity research and later as a vice president of structured products. He also spent twelve years as an actuarial consultant with Hewitt Associates. He began his career in the financial services industry in 1993.

Soami holds a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Western On-tario. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute and is a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and Society of Actuaries.

Our portfolio managers are supported by our entire team of investment professionals in nine worldwide offices. The team employs a proprietary investment process to build better insights for our clients. Meir Statman is the Glenn Klimek Professor of Finance at Santa Clara University. His research focuses on behavioral finance. He attempts to understand how investors and managers make financial decisions and how these decisions are reflected in financial markets.

Meir’s research has been published in the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Finan-cial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial and Quanti-tative Analysis, the Financial Analysts Journal, the Journal of Portfolio Management, and many other journals. The research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Research Foundation of the CFA Institute, and the Investment Man-agement Consultants Association (IMCA).

Meir is a member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Portfolio Management and numerous other boards. He is a recipient of a Batterymarch Fellowship, a William F. Sharpe Best Paper Award amongst several other notable awards.

Meir received his Ph.D. from Columbia University and his B.A. and M.B.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Mr. Lemieux joined Fidelity in 1996 as a research associate and member of Fidelity (Canada) Asset Management ULC, Fidelity’s Canadian equity research team. He was promoted to the position of analyst in 1998. From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Lemieux covered Canadian securities in the entertainment, broadcasting, forest products and technology sectors, as well as Cana-dian small-capitalization companies.

From July 2000 until August 2008, Mr. Lemieux managed Fidelity Canadian Opportunities Fund, and from December 2006 to August 2008, he managed Fidelity Canadian Growth Company Fund. Between 2002 and 2008, he managed Fidelity Canada Fund, available to U.S. investors only.

Mr. Lemieux received a BCom in finance from McGill University in Montreal in 1996.

Paul Martin: CFA (2000); BComm (1997) University of British Columbia, Leslie Wong Fellow (UBC Portfolio Management Foundation). Paul is an institutional portfolio manager with in-depth knowledge of equity markets. In addition to working directly with institutional clients, he is responsible for developing institutional investment solutions that harness the expertise of all investment teams within RBC GAM and he is a member of the Canadian Institutional Management Committee and the RBC Alternative Equity Committee. Prior to joining PH&N in 2010, he had spent 13 years in institutional sales with a large bank-owned investment dealer and a predecessor capital company. As a senior member of the Insti-tutional Equity Sales Team, Paul was responsible for relationships with Western Canadian institutional equity investors, including pensions, mutual funds and hedge funds. He is a CFA® charterholder and was previously a director of CFA Society Vancouver.

Sain Godil

Sain is a Portfolio Manager responsible for North America and Israel, as well as global coverage of the Financials and Telecom sectors as well as stock screening. Born in India, Sain graduated with great distinction from Goa University in 1999. Prior to im-migrating to Canada, he was an Asset Manager for ICICI, India’s second largest bank. Before taking the position with ICICI, Sain worked at 3Global services (a division of Hutchison Whampoa Group) and previously at Vinray Education where he was a man-ager. Sain earned a Master’s in Administration (Finance) in 2013 and a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Finance) in 2011 from the John Molson School of Business (JMSB) at Concordia University. He also received the Calvin Potter Fellowship from Concordia’s Kenneth Woods Portfolio Management Program. Sain is a CFA Charterholder. During his studies at JMSB, Sain worked as a Ju-nior Analyst at Global Alpha. In 2010, before joining Global Alpha, he was with Industrial Alliance Securities as a Research Asso-ciate and in 2009 with Abitibi Bowater as a Logistics Analyst. Prior to continuing his education at Concordia he had short-term contracts with CareFusion Corporation a spin off from Cardinal Health Inc. and Nordia, Inc. in Quebec. Sain is fluent in English, French and Hindi.

Jean-Eric Parisien

Jean-Eric is responsible for maintaining and growing Global Alpha’s relationships with institutional investors, including pen-sion plans (public and private), family offices, foundations and endowments.

Jean-Eric has been working with institutional clients for over 15 years. Prior to joining Global Alpha, Jean-Eric served as an Investment Solutions Executive at Sun Life Financial advising defined benefits and defined contribution pension plans on asset allocation, fund selection, plan design, fund mapping and other investment related topics. Additionally, he held a business development position at BlackRock where he developed com-plex portfolio solutions for large institutional investors including traditional and alternatives investment strategies. Jean-Eric also spent multiple years at Standard Life where he held a variety of roles leading up to Consultant, Investment Governance, re-sponsible for funds selection and monitoring of the Investment Platform offered to clients.

Jean-Eric holds a B.A. in Finance from HEC Montreal and is a CFA charterholder. He is fluent in French, English and Creole.

VALUE INVESTING IN EMERGING MARKETS: FINDING OPPORTUNITIES AND MANAGING RISK

Mohammed Ahmad - VP, Portfolio Manager, Emerging Markets Equities Foyston, Gordon & Payne, Inc.

Mohammed’s career began when he joined FGP in 1999. He joined the investment team in 2003 as a research analyst, began researching emerging market companies in 2007, and helped launch the FGP Emerging Markets Equity Fund in 2009. As Associate Portfolio Manager, he was involved in the day-to-day decision making for the strategy since incep-tion and assumed lead portfolio management responsibilities for this Fund in 2015. He is a member of FGP’s Investment Committee.

Mohammed experienced the evolution of FGP through the 2000 tech bubble and worked with the then emerging markets portfolio manager to manage the strategy through the global financial crisis and the subsequent quantitative easing world.

Mohammed is a graduate of the Institute of Business Administration (MBA) in Pakistan and is a CFA charterholder.

Julie Ducharme, CFA, is a Director and an investment strategist within BlackRock’s Active Equity business. Julie is responsible for institutional product strategy across BlackRock’s Active Equity products. Within this role Julie helps shape new product initiatives and drive large institutional mandates, particularly within the global and emerging markets. 

Prior to her role in Active Equities, Julie was a member of BlackRock’s Global Consultant Relations Group where she was responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with investment consultants and institutional investors. Ms. Ducharme’s service with the firm dates back to 2011. Previously, she was a principal for Mercer Investment Management where she was responsible for delivering investment solutions and reporting on Mercer’s investment strategies to clients. Prior to joining Mercer Investment Management in 2008, she was a senior manager researcher at Mercer where she rated investment managers across all major types of asset classes focusing on global strategies in currency, tactical asset allocation, and fixed income.

Ms. Ducharme earned a BA degree in Mathematics from Concordia University in 1998.

Richard Lee - Senior Managing Director, Infrastructure Equity InvestingManulife

Richard Lee is Senior Managing Director for Infrastructure Equity investing at Manulife. Richard joined Manulife in 2005. Richard has over 28 years of experience in developing, investing, lending and advising in electricity generation and transmission, transportation and water and wastewater sectors. Prior to Manulife, Richard worked at Veolia Water, Sithe Asia, CH2M Hill and Probyn & Company. Richard has an MBA from York University in Toronto and a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto.

Toby Goodworth is Head of Risk & Diversifying Strategies at bfinance, and a member of the firm’s Senior Management Team. Previously Toby was Head of Risk Management at Key As-set Management, one of Europe’s oldest fund of hedge funds, where he designed and ran the firm’s bespoke risk models. Prior to that he was a risk analyst focusing on quantitative global equity strategies. Toby holds a Ph.D in Physics from University College London and a First Class honours degree in Physics, also from UCL.
