THE HUMAN FACE OF TACTILESWhen developing our business, CTA
Australia was motivated by a bigger
picture, one that led us to consider
the human element behind what we
do. It is the human dimension that
drives us as the manufacturer and
you, our client, to search for the
best possible solutions to assist the
vision impaired with their day to day
endeavours...
We contemplated a simple yet
potentially frustrating problem that
thousands of people live with day to
day and found that we could help.
Imagine this: the next time you fi nd
yourself in public waiting patiently for
a tram, close your eyes, black out the
world around you and give up your
sense of sight.
CTA Australia is an Australian owned and operated company that is making an innovative mark on tactile facilities for the vision impaired.

How do you feel? Confused,
frustrated, scared, vulnerable? How
do you know where to go; the right
direction to take; when to stop;
when to start; how safe it is to stand
where you are standing?
Sight is a sense we overwhelmingly
take for granted until we lose it.
For many in our society, life or
death judgment calls without the
advantage of sight are a day to day,
minute by minute reality.
How do people with a vision
impairment survive in a society that
is predominantly geared towards
those of us who can see? This
question motivated the federal
government to pass the Disability
Discrimination Act of 1992, protecting
vision impaired individuals across
a spectrum of situations including
access to premises.
CTA Australia has made a resolute
commitment to play a major role, to
set benchmarks and not to shy away
from challenges. Imagining how life
is for those who are unable to see
is the premise around which CTA
Australia has built its business.
Next time you happen to be at a
tram stop or descending steps
that are fi nished with stair nosing,
close your eyes and let our tactile
environment guide you.

SureSteel®
For tactile indicators to meet their
primary purpose – assistance for the
vision impaired – durability is critical.
If they become displaced or broken
over time, they can become a hazard
in themselves. The challenge when
designing durable tactile indicators
is to make them easy to install onto a
wide variety of surfaces.
SureSteel® stainless steel tactile
indicators provide high visibility,
the highest slip resistance and long
term durability in a single product.
They can easily be installed onto
most substrates including: concrete,
bitumen, natural stone, ceramic
tiles, pavers, timber, carpet and most
other surfaces.
APPEARANCESureSteel® stainless steel tactile
indicators are available in a range of
styles to suit precise decorative and
safety requirements:
• smooth or stepped side faces
• concentric ring or grit in-fi lled
top surfaces; a concentric ring
with tapered screw hole option is
also available
• with or without an integrated
fi xing spigot
• All options are available as both
studs and directional ribs.
Tactile ground surface indicators (TGSI) play a crucial safety role for the vision
impaired. As such, it is important that quality is not compromised in their
selection. In CTA’s SureSteel® range of one piece stainless steel indicators, the
very best choice in quality combines with stunning appearance and market-
leading ease of installation.
DURABILITYManufactured from 316 stainless
steel, SureSteel® tactile indicators
are built to last the rigours of high
volume traffi c, both internally and
externally. SureSteel® indicators are
formed from a single piece of steel
so the anchoring spigot will never
detach from the tactile head. In
addition, CTA’s proprietary treatment
process ensures that SureSteel®
studs and ribs will retain their highly
visible appearance for many years.
SAFETY AND COMPLIANCESureSteel® tactile indicators meet or
exceed all relevant Building Code of
Australia and Australian/New Zealand
Standards for slip resistance (AS/NZS
4582:2004) and luminance contrast
(AS/NZ 1428 Part 4). Because of their
high durability, they will continue to
meet those requirements over the
long term.
The R13 slip resistance rating of both
the concentric ring and grit in-fi lled
options is the highest available rating
for tactile indicators. It exceeds the
requirements for external ramps,
walkways and pedestrian crossings.
INSTALLATIONUnderstanding the importance of easy
installation to a quick and trouble-free
building project, CTA has developed,
and patented, Drill&Lock® technology.
This innovative approach eliminates
the need for messy adhesives and
makes do-it-yourself installation a
viable option, reducing both cost and
annoying delays.
Drill&Lock® requires just two simple
steps: drill a hole, and lock in a tactile
indicator. Combining Drill&Lock® with
CTA’s complete range of interlocking
grid templates will ensure that your
installation is fully compliant with the
relevant standards.
Because installation of tactile
indicators onto carpet can throw
up unique challenges, CTA has
also developed the EasyAs® carpet
installation system. This system
drastically reduces the stress
and cost associated with carpet
installations and removes the risk
of damaging expensive carpet. With
EasyAs®, there is no need to cut the
carpet, remove the underlay, install
expensive packers or hire a carpet
layer for re-laying.
Of course, as with any of CTA’s
wide range of products, our own
expert installers are available to
do the installation work for you –
with short turnaround times and
guaranteed workmanship.

For too long, architects and specifi ers
have had to compromise their
carefully designed interior and
exterior colour schemes by choosing
from a restrictive range of colour
options in tactile ground surface
indicators. SureSteel® Select turns
the tables on this situation, combining
stainless steel with colour. Finally,
a wide range of colour options is
available without trading off the
high levels of compliance, safety
and durability of stainless steel. The
aesthetic potential of SureSteel®
Select is almost limitless.
When choosing SureSteel® Select,
tactile indicators can be specifi ed in
one of two styles, both with a smooth
side face:
• a 316 stainless steel skirt with a
coloured plastic top surface, or
• a coloured skirt with a stainless
steel top surface.
• A choice of seven colours
is available for the plastic
component in both cases.

installers to do the job for you
• EasyAs® installation over carpet
without cutting, lifting and re-laying.
When appearance and durability
are paramount, it’s hard to go past
stainless steel as the choice of
material for tactile ground surface
indicators. SureSteel® Plates offer
the benefi ts of stainless steel with the
convenience and ease of installation
of a prefabricated plate.
For design fl exibility, SureSteel® Plates
are available in full stainless steel (with
concentric ring or grit in-fi lled top
surfaces) and also in the SureSteel®
Select colour range. Stud insert colour
options include ivory, yellow, grey,
black, terracotta, green and blue – all
over a high-shine steel base.
Of course, SureSteel® Plates offer
the same high levels of safety and
compliance as all their SureSteel®
counterparts, with the highest slip
resistance rating on the market and
very high levels of luminance contrast,
meeting all applicable standards.
SureSteel® Plates are available in
