    Model 2485Ruska Hydraulic

    Piston Gauge

The Model 2485 hydraulic piston gauge is ahigh precision standard that provides unsur-passed perormance in the eld o hydraulicpiston pressure gauge metrology. The Model2485 continues the Fluke Calibration standardo excellence, building on over 50 years opiston gauge manuacturing expertise. Thisinstrument can be used to calibrate virtually

any pressure device including other industrial orportable piston gauges, transducers, transmit-ters, gauges, or pressure switches. Availablein dioctyl sebacate (DOS) oil, the Model 2485can also be used in multiple media systemsto acilitate calibrations o the wide variety oinstrumentation in use today.

Each Model 2485 system includes a calibra-tion report traceable to the U.S. National Instituteo Standards and Technology (NIST). Traceabil-ity to other national or international standardsorganizations is also available.

    A compact, space-saving design

The Model 2485 is designed or easy use and orthe space limitations o todays calibration envi-ronment. The entire benchtop system requiresless than two square eet o bench space. Themain pressure housing secures the piston/cylinder assembly and provides support or themass load. Two adjustable support legs and apermanently attached, sensitive level indicatoracilitate precise alignment o the piston axis.A xed support leg directly underneath themain pressure housing supports the load andeliminates platorm distortion so that continuouslevel adjustments are not needed. An auxiliarypressure housing, fuid reservoir, valves andpositive displacement pump are enclosed by asimple cover that is easily removed or servic-ing internal components. The auxiliary housingalso provides a convenient location to connecta device under test. A rapid ll pump is usedto quickly purge hydraulic lines o air prior tostarting the calibration procedure.

Other design eatures include a valve orconnecting to an external reservoir (useulor applications where a reservoir larger than250 mL (8.5 oz) is needed), and a liquid-in-glass thermometer to aid in compensating or

temperature eects. Reservoir and system isola-tion valves allow or pump recharging when

Mass platters or the Model 2485are easy to handle_maximum platterweight is 5 kg (11 lb). Masses aresingle-piece construction with noloose-fll materials or highest accuracy.

The Model 2485 contains a sensitive

level indicator to acilitate precisealignment o the piston axis.

    The Model 2485 contains all

components needed, including apositive displacement pump, in acompact benchtop system

Fluid reservoir. The Model 2485uses dioctyle sebacate (DOS) oilas the pressure medium.

returning the system to atmosphere. The drivemotor can be used to provide consistent relativemotion between the piston and cylinder whenthe inertia o a small mass load is insucient tomaintain adequate ree rotation time.

    Mass set

The mass set or the Model 2485 includes:

A hanger or sleeve mass, used to keep thecenter o mass below the piston

Nineteen 5 kg platters Mass platters in incremental denominations

    [down to 200 g (7 oz)] or a total o 100 kg(3.5 oz)

Each mass is adjusted to within 50 ppm o thenominal mass denomination and calibrated to5 ppm. Each mass is marked with the serialnumber o the set, a sequence number and thenominal mass denomination. The mass set issupplemented with a laboratory-style trim massset, with denominations to 5 mg (0.0002 oz),to generate any pressure within the range andresolution o the instrument.

    Piston/cylinder assemblies

The Model 2485 piston/cylinder assembliesare simple in conguration and there are nomounting fanges or other geometric irregulari-ties that can result in complicated stresses inthe cylinder. This design minimizes stress dueto mounting and sealing, and allows quick and

easy changeout o all ranges without specialtools.

The eective area o each Model 2485 piston/cylinder assembly is adjusted so that a givenload in kilogram denominations will generatenominal pressure increments in either English(psi) or SI units (bar). All assemblies are identi-ed with a pressure unit/increment designatorand serial number.

    Quality materials, qualitymanufacturing

All piston/cylinder assemblies are manuacturedrom cemented tungsten carbide, oering supe-rior strength and proven durability or: Low distortion Virtually undetectable hysteresis Excellent long-term stability A very low thermal coecient

The manuacturing techniques used or theModel 2485 piston/cylinder assemblies ensureundetectable pressure change due to speedor direction o rotation, resolution better than1 ppm, a sink rate typically less than 0.25 mm(0.01 in) per minute at maximum pressure anda useable pressure range down to 1 % o ullscale (FS).

Protecting your investmentThe Model 2485 eatures the PistonSae system,a unique non-rigid system that results in auto-matic centering o the mass load and protectiono the piston/cylinder assembly rom orcesinduced by loading and unloading masses. Thesystem minimizes lateral orces, maintains thevertical orce along the piston axis, reduces ric-tion, and promotes a higher level o perormancethan with rigidly mounted load. The piston andcylinder components are ully protected shouldthe pressure be released while under load, orthe load removed while at ull pressure. Installa-

tion or change o piston/cylinder ranges is quickand easy and can be completed in minuteswithout special tools.

ISO-17025 accredited calibration (certicate)* Accuracy as used here is dened as the 2-sigma root-sum-square total uncertainty in pressure as

determined rom the method described in ISO Guide to the Ex pression o Uncertainty in Measurement, and represents a 95% level o condence. These claims are subject to l imitations in the state-o-theart uncertainty where available in pressure measurement at NIST and on strict procedure, training andenvironmental controls at the location where used.
