Our village Feast goes from strength to strength thanks to the full support of so many Hampsthwaite

people. We intend it to remain a local event with a strong focus on children and families, so it is good to see

the main growth in numbers arising because residents are inviting friends and relatives to join them for the

weekend. We will do our best to ensure a great occasion for all your guests.

This year we have all the attractions of previous years plus a brass band to help you enjoy your teas on

Saturday and a Spitfire display on Sunday

- yes, a real flying one!

The Feast organisers are keen that we invest in

our future so each year we try to do something for

the Feast, something for the village and now

something for the world. So far, our Feast

Engineering group has built a stage platform, a hog

roast and two BBQs. With the help of Tim and

Jeremy Backhouse and the kind permission of Tony

Binns, we improved the school field by building an

extra gate and this year we hope to build a new

bridge across the stream. Last year we created the

web site www.hampsthwaite.org.uk and now we

are looking to form active links between our

school and one in Africa.

None of this is possible without your full support.

great annual treat for all of us, our friends

and our families.

It is with sadness this year, that we have to announce that George Wainwright is no longer with us.

For many years he was ‘Mr Feast’ and without his commitment it is doubtful we would ever have reached

the point we are at today. Thank you, George.

Foreword by Sir James AykroydMy family’s association with Hampsthwaite village goes back over eighty years - modest indeed compared

with the 701 years of the Hampsthwaite Feast but still something of which I am very proud.

There is an excellent community spirit in the village which is reflected in the many active societies and most

recently by the efforts of so many people to help fund the new Church Room. The Feast, of course, remains

the great annual event and it is wonderful that so many children and their families take part.

I am honoured to have been asked to open proceedings this year and my wife and I would like to wish

everyone a successful and highly enjoyable weekend.
