The Rochdale Hornets players stormed Perito’s to take on the Man V. Perito’s challenges on Sunday 20th January. The 10 strong brave souls had a whale of a time so we went to see who actually got defeated. Local Portuguese and Mexican restaurant franchise Perito’s has set up a series of food challenges to test the strongest or most foolish amongst us. Hornets players marshalled by Paul Crook descended on Perito’s to test their metal. The first 3 players took on the Grande Platter Challenge which is 2 whole Peri Peri chickens that had to be finished within 20 minutes. They all started off well until all of them hit the wall! Hornets were defeated! Round 2 saw 4 players all took on the Peri Peri Wing King Challenge, that’s 15 hot wings that get hotter as you progress. The spicy smell of the first 5 wings had several of the boys cough- ing, even before the super hot ones had come out! The fact the challengers had to sign a disclaimer and wear rubber gloves should have been a warning of what was to follow. One man won and 3 were defeated! Not surprised! The final round was the Good Burger Challenge aka Perinator, which was 5 enormous burgers stuffed with cheese stacked on top of each other inside and over-sized bun fully loaded with relish. The Perinator challenge had never been defeated previously and all 3 challengers had a great start wolfing down the burgers with ease, even taking time to scrap any last morsel that dropped so as not to miss any. The 3 challengers won and Perito’s was defeated. A brilliant bit of team bonding and it certainly made for great entertainment. Hornets hope to work with Perito’s this coming season to develop their partnerships across the town! Dare to Try? If you want to take on the challenges then visit www.peritos.co.uk and get in touch. For video’s and to keep posted like their page www.facebook.com/peritosrestaurant Volunteers warmed up in trial Etihad Metrolink run More than one hundred volunteers took part in trial tests to look at match day conditions for the new Etihad Campus Metrolink stop. Metrolink staff undertook several tram scenarios with volunteers, who were recruited from Manchester Event Volunteers - http://mev.org.uk/. The scenarios included pre-and-post match day environments and incidents such as delays, evacuations and heavy queuing. They complimented two previous non-passenger Metrolink exercises which took place during Manchester City’s recent FA Cup tie against Watford and last Premier League game with Fulham. Afterwards, members of Manchester’s Salvation Army branch were on hand to provide the volun- teers with refreshments including hot tea and coffee. The new Etihad Campus stop will open in Febru- ary and provide direct access to the stadium and its facilities through a passenger walkway. The stop is part of the new East Manchester line which will end at Ashton-under-Lyne. The line is scheduled for completion in 2014 with a Droyls- den stop also opening next month. Philip Purdy, Metrolink Director, said: “The test scenarios were picked to mirror busy match day conditions and specific intensive incidents. “We know the Etihad Campus stop is going to be a popular stop, especially during home games, and this was the rationale for the live exercise. “The opening of this stop next month will be a key landmark for our East Manchester line which will conclude in Ashton-under-Lyne during 2014. “I would also like to add my thanks to football fans for their patience during the two recent successful Saturday afternoon Metrolink tests at the stadium.”
