EDA Chair Michel Nalet (photo on the right) opened the Conference: Let’s put the Single Market in the centre of the debate of the 60 years of the Treaty of Rome”. The first session offered a high-level perspective on where the Single Market stands today and on the complexity of the different food supply chains and the ways to improve its functioning in Europe, for the benefit of the citizens and for the food sector. EDA Dairy Policy Conference 2017 Dairy - Jobs, Growth and Investment in the Common market

Yesterday, the EDA Dairy Policy Conference 2017 brought

about 200 representatives of the European dairy industry

together, in Brussels. 60 years after the Treaty of Rome was

signed on 25 March 1957, this edition of the EDA Dairy Policy

Conference puts the EU Single Market in the centre of the

debate, and highlighted how and to what extent dairy

contributes to the core missions of the EU Commission: Jobs,

Growth and Investment.

EDA Chair Michel Nalet (photo on the right) opened the Conference:

moderated the first session: “Let’s uncork

the potential of the Single Market”.

Gilles Morel (President Mars Chocolate

Europe & Eurasia, FoodDrinkEurope Chair)

reminded how "the single market has

helped us to become the 1st manufacturing

sector".

The second session focused on the impact of

different national implementations of the CAP and

further re-nationalisations of the CAP which

influence the competitivity of the dairy industry

within the Single Market.

Discussions were raised on the future of the Single

Market, at a time when Brexit can be considered as

a big challenge.

MEP Dan Dalton (ECR, UK): “Non-tariff barriers are

the main challenge in the Single Market, driven by anti

-EU feelings.”
