Fun with a Purpose

With the fall season upon us, it makes me wonder where the year has gone.Lady Helen and I have enjoyed the many BBQ's and picnics and thank you forthe opportunity to visit the Membership.

In September we had the opportunity to meet the public at the InternationalPloughing Match in Simcoe County. The Masons and Shriners were well representedand the beer tent was a great success. There were many inquires showing greatinterest in both the Masonic Order and the Shrine.

The Fall Ceremonial will be held on Saturday November 15th, and I am lookingforward to seeing everyone again.

Your Divan is getting prepared for Elections and Installations in the upcomingmonths and hopefully the Clubs are doing the same by having candidates ready for allpositions.

Due to the fact of my being away, I have left the report on the new building to myfellow Divan Members, who are up to date on the progress of the construction.

THANKS FOR BEING A SHRINER.

RECORDER’SMESSAGE

Isn’t it great to be a Shriner. . . it’s Feztastic

When Walter M. Fleming, MD and actor Billy Florencemet in 1870 to discuss the formation of fraternitybased on Masonic principals with an added emphasis

on fun and fellowship, they couldn’t possibly visualize how theirdreams and ideas would exceed all expectations. Today I amreminded of the quote “When memories exceed dreams, theend is near”, so let’s not be satisfied with exceeding ourfounders’ dreams. Let’s have some of our own and continue tomove forward, now is the time, with those thoughts in mindand this being fourth quarter for 2014 and to embark oncemore on our Club and Unit Elections.

The schedule for Elections is now in the hands of allsecretaries.

As we see each day, never before has the need for goodleadership been more critical for all levels of government andbusiness.

The Shrine that we know and love is facing serious problems.

Membership, as in most organizations, is decreasing at analarming rate and for many different reasons.

As Shrine leaders, we should have two objectives. The first isto motivate and assist Clubs and Units and members to achieveleadership status. The second is creating a legacy of leadership,as did Dr. Walter Fleming and Billy Florence.

How will your Club, Unit or Lodge succeed once your term ofservice concludes? Are you building future leaders of your Clubor Unit today?

The successes you achieve today are short-lived if they don’tlast beyond your leadership term.

To build a legacy of leadership, all you have to do is plantseeds. How does this happen? You plant seeds ofencouragement with your fellow Shrine Masons. You plantseeds of belief, support and faith as elections near. Help yourfellow Nobles realize the potential they do not yet see orbelieve for themselves.

Whatever your role is in the Shrine or Lodge, whether youare a new or veteran member, plant seeds today.

If this message speaks to you, the seed is planted. You willbe a superb Club or Unit President, Divan Member, Master ofyour Lodge etc.

I believe in you, now believe in yourself. Take a role inleadership; start building your legacy of leadership today. Yourlegacy begins now.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “You are no followers, but fellowstudents, fellow pilgrims, fellow seekers, fellow workers”.

Fellow Nobles, “It’s great to be a Shriner”.

Now is the time

CHAPLAIN’SCORNER

We will soon be into the Christmas season and I wouldlike to invite all Nobles and their families to our annualCarol Service, Sunday, December 14th, 2014.

This will possibly be the last official function to be held at

3100 Keele Street. We hope to have the York Regional PoliceYouth Band join in our service. Let’s go out with a “bang!”

To our new Nobles who joined at our Fall Ceremonial, Iwelcome you. You are now members of the greatestphilanthropy in the world. Get involved in supporting ourhospitals and our children

Let us pray for a speedy recovery for those Nobles and theirfamilies who are in ill health.

If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to give me acall.

As the leaves start to change colour and I sit back andthink about the good times Lady Barb and I have had atthe Club’s and Unit’s different events this summer. Thank

you Nobles and Ladies for a great time. The hospitality wasgreat.

I would like to thank all the Nobles and their Ladies thatsupported the Western Night. Also thanks to Nobles ShawnHewlett and Doug Foss and their helpers for putting on a greatevening.

Nobles, remember the Stated Meeting coming up onNovember 14th and the Fall Ceremonial on the 15th. You willneed your 2014 dues card.

Do not forget to get new Candidates for the Fall Ceremonial.

We need new members, as you know, we lose about 200members every year.

The Club and Unit Elections will be underway and do not beafraid to stand for a position on the executive. Also you will need your 2014 dues card tovote.

The Lottery Chairman will have yourtickets for you to sell. We did not have acomplete sell out last year.

The Shriners Hospital for Children –Canada in Montreal is coming along onschedule and is opening on August20th or 22nd 2015.

Nobles, I hope that you are visitingbeashrinernow.com and ShrinersVillage. All the information is there foryou.

Also remember our Ill Sir’s Motto“Fun with a Purpose”.

Fall is upon us as we move into our busiest time of the year.Elections, Installations and the Fall Ceremonial all come inthis period.

It is especially important at this time that we remember weare Shrine Masons, and to follow the oaths we took as MasterMasons in our dealings with our Brethren. We need to make alasting impression on all the Nobles we meet, especially thenew Nobles and their Ladies.

We must take time to nurture them andcreate an environment ofbrotherhood and unity in our Clubs

and Temple, and resolve ourdifferences in a spirit ofcooperation and reach ourdecisions by consensus.

New membership is thekey to our survival. It isinteresting to note that

throughout North Americaapproximately twenty-fivepercent of Masons are Shriners. However, in our area only

thirteen percent of Masons are Shriners. Wemust get out to our Lodges and ask the non-

Shriner Brethren to join us. The question often asked of newly initiated Nobles is, “Why

did you wait so long before joining the Shrine?” The answer isusually “Nobody asked me before”. The message is clear, go toyour Lodges and ASK, ASK, ASK. If possible, seek permission forone of our Membership Committee or Divan member(s) toattend your Lodge to make a presentation. We have a goodcollection of videos and handouts which can help promote ourmembership and which I am sure will be an entertaining andinformative evening and may well convince them to join us (Ipersonally have a projector and numerous videos and I am morethan willing to attend any group that requests a presentation, please just call me). Remember, we are ALL on the MembershipCommittee! Get those membership petitions in.

In closing, I thank you all for what you do. Our children needyou.

Lady Jackie and I look forward to meeting with you in ourupcoming travels.

WOODY’SWISDOM

Well Nobles, the Fall season is upon us and that whitestuff is near. Soon we will be in our new building readyto start new memories. The journey to the new building

has been long but with your help it will be rewarding. Nobles, it is that time of the year, that’s right, Lottery time.

Last year we, as a Temple, fell short of selling out on our Lottery

tickets. Let’s all pull together and do our best to sell out.Remember, you don’t have to be a Shriner to buy a ticket. Thecost is only $2 a week. This is a very important event for outTemple.

Nobles, remember that membership is a very important issuein out Temple. Without new members the work becomes harderfor all over us. OUR KIDS NEED US.

Remember that we are all Shrine-Masons, together we are afamily.

TREASURER’SREPORT

Ihope that everyone has had a great summer and are nowready for a very busy fall with Shrine activities. Please take the time to get out to your Shrine Club, and for

those of you who are not a member of one, I would stronglysuggest you join one.

As Treasurer, I would like to say that Rameses Shriners are ingood shape financially, however there are many members whohave not paid their dues. If at all possible please pay ASAP.

As far as the expenses are concerned, I am happy to reportthat up to this point, most items are under budget. All accountsare being closely monitored by not only me but also allmembers of your Divan.

If anyone has an idea with a new fundraising idea, please letthe divan know.

One of my main concerns is membership. Nobles we have agreat Shrine Center and with your help, we can keep it that way.If you know of a friend or relative who you think might make agood Shriner, then bring him out to one of the many Clubevents and introduce him to the members. If he is interested atall, then find him a Lodge close to where he lives and get himShrine ready. Nobles it can be done.

In the meantime I wish all of you a great autumn.

At the 2014 International Plowing Match in Ivy, south ofBarrie, several Masons from Georgian North and GeorgianSouth Districts provided gate control at the Final Furrow

where many whistles were whetted. For their very successful efforts, the Sheba Shrine Club

presented a cheque of $3,500 to the DDGM of Georgian South,R.W. Bro. Kennard W. R. Pratt, for the benefit of the DistrictProjects.

This Reporter would like to thank everyone for their wellwishes and support after having back surgery in July. I can now say I really am “A Just and Upright Man.”

I was still on light duty and unable to attend the AllistonPotato Festival Parade. But life works in mysterious ways. Thatevening my wife Sheena took me to dinner at BarclaysRestaurant in Innisfil. We had just finished our meal and wereabout to leave when this Red Streetcar pulled into the parkinglot. The next thing I knew a group of well-dressed Conductorswere shaking my hand and saying how great it was to see me.Needless to say the Founders Unit had arrived. These fellowssure know how to make an entrance.

This again proves how deep a friendship we have with eachother. You never know when or where you will run into anotherBrother.

I just wish they had arrived sooner, they could have picked upour bill!

The Nobles of Sheba Shrine Club had the honour andprivilege of assisting our own Noble Cal Madill at theInternational Plowing Match held in Ivy, Ontario. Cal is theChairman for 2014 and has the enormous responsibility ofmaking sure everything runs smoothly. We all had various dutiesto perform from the creation of Tent City, to the operating of theBeer and Beverage Lounge. This was a momentous task for ourClub with everyone involved. This five-day event saw crowds of20,000 per day with people from all parts of North America andbeyond.

I met a couple from Ireland. They commented on how great acountry we have and how friendly the people were. I felt proudthey were talking to me and I bought them both another beer.

Some volunteer Shriners came from Orillia and points North. It was good to see a number of Masons involved as well. Someof our friends from Kawartha Dairy, Moffatt’s Mazda, WallwinElectric and World’s Finest Chocolate also gave their time andsupport to sponsor this great event.

We all would like to thank Cal Madill for truly being an“Ambassador Emeritus” by providing us with the opportunity topromote Masonry and Shrinedom. If any one person could bepointed out as a True Shriner, I think we would all agree it wouldbe Cal Madill. Thanks Cal!

From Sheba Shrine Club at the near shores of beautifulKempenfelt Bay, (as this Reporter makes his way to the Oasis)

I tip my Fez to all Nobles everywhere for being Noble Nobles!

A Noble, as I see it, is a member of The Nobility. We first became Brothers. We took the Obligation as

Masons that we believe in the same Morals, Values andDisciplines. Our Surname started with Brother. This was tohonour our achievements.

We next became Nobles when we joined The Shrine. Oursurname then started with Noble. This was to honour ourcommitment to having fun and helping our children.

Both these achievements brought each and every one ofus closer to knowing ourselves. We belong to a Brotherhoodand Philanthropy which has brought us all closer knowingeach other. This is FRIENDSHIP.

WHAT IS A NOBLE NOBLE? I can only believe that this is a Shriner who goes above

and beyond just being a member of the Shrine, a Club or aUnit.

A person whose Masonic Values are present in hiseveryday life.

A person who lives his life with enthusiasm and passion. A person who brings these qualities through the doors of

his Lodge or Shrine Club. These are the men that volunteer, contribute their time

and make everyone they meet feel welcome. These are the Noble Nobles. And if you don’t believe me, take a look in the mirror,

there should be one there! This may be a good time for REFLECTION!

What is a Noble?

By Noble Dave Gillies NIAGARA SHRINE CLUB

Ihad the most laughs I’ve had inyears at the “One Club Challenge”organized by newly Fezzed Tom. The

August event attended by fellow fun-loving crazies and their wives was acomplete success. Only one club for theround and putters included at eachgreen it should have been easy! Easy‘till you had to putt with a T shapedthing hinged together with two eyescrews, or a piece of putter-shaped PVCpipe, and what about that crookedwooden shillelagh putter! It was ablast, and a great summer get togetherfor the Club and friends, steaks werepretty good too!

Another newbie and another Tombrought some new faces into the Clubeach Thirsty Thursday with a CruiseNight. Tough completion with othervenues running on the same night buthe stuck it out and as they say “build itand they will come” and they did.

I saw some really nice iron out in front of the Shrine Club onThursdays. Congrats to the new members courage in putting onevents, we can all use some of their enthusiasm. Thanks Toms!

Noble Brad organized his second event! Billed it as a hockeygame but I think it may be more of a grudge match after theirtug of war on ice before the game. He has the firemen lacing uptheir skates against the police in October, no firearms, or firehoses were allowed, as there’s an open skate after the game.Plans are to clear out the Club garage and at time of writingwe’re looking to rent some of those sumo wrestling suits forboth groups to work off their frustrations after the game.

We live for our kids and there were plenty of them at theDundas Cactus parade. The Maid, trailing a stream of bubbles, two clowns and dispensing rock and roll tunes had the crowdtwisting and shouting as we passed by. Sailing on our rollingShrine billboard spreading the mission of our fraternity andphilanthropy is a sure fire way to have “Fun with a Purpose”.

Another fun day also filled with lots of children andmembers of the community was our participation at HeatersHeroes. A cancer fundraiser which also welcomed back hometown hero Mike Strange from his 90 marathons in 90 days afundraising run all the way from Newfoundland!

I think we twisted over a thousand balloons with same helpfrom our local Shriners, Ladies, clowns and even a junior helper. We also handed out burn prevention colouring books and otherShrine material to some of the hundreds of children and theirfamilies. The Maid then served as a perfect backdrop for theevening’s entertainment with the colourful rope lightingilluminating her sleek outline against the night sky.

Thirteen thirsty travelers traded their car keys for an escortedride to a couple of Irish pubs and a sporting spectacular inBuffalo in mid-August. What happened with the Irish willforever remain a secret but the ball game was awesome, matched only by the beautifulweather and the good friends onthe junket.

A real corner store win, 7-11,baby Jays of Buffalo overScranton’s baby Yankees. You couldalmost call it a liquid doubleheader as a few of us had torepeat our consumption at PalmerLodges’ golf outing the next day, Itold my bride; it’s a tough job butsomebody has to do it! My aching knees can’t take much morepunishment not to mention my liver. “I still don’t know how Iever got over the hill without getting to the top.”

Not another visit to Ismailia, do I have too as I talked myselfinto to a ticket to their sportsman raffle. Arriving there alongwith a bunch of other unlucky Nobles we were greeted with atrailer full of golden foamy beverage, tables of food along withtwo or three hundred other hopefuls there for the raffle. We hadfour winners, two notable prizes with me and another winning apiece of string.

I did, however, get to overnight with three other Nobles atour New York headquarters in the hills. We enjoyed a meal, ablycooked by our host over an open campfire, heard many goodstories and a few lies until into the wee hours then all slept likea logs till breakfast. I was delivered home to a house full offamily that I had forgotten were coming. I did later vaguelyremember receiving that message via an international call in thehills the evening before. Presently I’m cleaning out a spot in thegarage for a cot between scribing these few words and avoidingand the frosty temperatures inside the happy home.

“A midget fortune-teller who escapes from prison is a smallmedium at large.” Does your future see you holding politicaloffice? If not, it should; it’s in your best interest in keeping ourClub the vibrant, expanding and fun one that it is. Rememberthis on Election Day this month; run for office or a seat on the

board of directors; see just how the Club keeps oncourse. President John has some words for would-beofficers; “If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of someinfluence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.” Heis so right; this Club of ours like all the others in theShrine, is run by all of you so get behind the helm andsteer her into the future. Think of it; you can follow ourother Niagara captain’s over the last 66 years. Continuethat tradition started in 1947; sail into history andmake your own mark having “Fun with a Purpose.”

The Niagara “One Club Challenge” just too funny!

By Noble Nels Conroy - SUDBURY SHRINE CLUB

Noble Gary Trotter, while a Candidate in the Spring Ceremonial in Sudbury, explained to his granddaughters the purpose of his new fez and theimportant philanthropic efforts of Shriners. Both girls attended the parade.

Some two and half months later, these same two girls and three other grandkidsfrom Oshawa decided to raise money for our Shriners Hospital. They set up a standon Gary’s front lawn the last week before school and sold lemonade, pet rocks andhad the Grandparent’s poodle perform tricks for money. They did this on their ownwith no direction from others.

All of the proceeds, $110.20, were donated to the Shriners Hospital fund. Rameses acknowledged the donation by making the children the youngest

members of Sudbury’s 100 Million Dollar Club. According to Grandma Trotter, thechildren were thrilled with their certificate.

seems to be hard to come by. So I picked up my trusty writin’stick, and I said I’ll git ‘er dun for them chaps as they whileaway their time down at J. Johnson’s General Store with the onegas pump at Burning Sands.

We even had to get old Cuzzin Earl to grab a log from thewoodpile out back to put in the old pot bellied stove to wardoff the autumn chill. Maybe a little Apple Pie might ward off thechill as well...

You know you’re a Hillbilly when going to Wal-Mart is afavorite past-time known as “goin wal-martin” or off to “WallyWorld”.

Now you might be a wonderin’ what kind of happenin’swent on at the Hillbilly Chowdown at Cuzzin Noble Jim JohnsonJr’s and his Gal Beth’s place this summer.

Well let me tell yu’all, it was a hoot! Not only did we havesome real tasty vittles, there was a real hootenanny shotgunwedding with all kinds of partners coming out of them therecorn fields to get hitched. There were some new Hillbillies madeand some new Hillbilly Gals too.

Them vittles were shared with lots of cuzzins from some faraway places like Sudbury, North Bay, Hamilton, and other placestoo many to count without takin’ off a my shoes. Even ourPotentate Ill. Sir Terry Fulton and Lady Helen attended and had alot of fun and fellowship.

Only true Hillbillies grow up knowing the difference between“right near” and “a right far piece.” They also know that “justdown the road” can be 1 mile or 20.

Cuzzin Noble Prez Rik Kubiak, who is also Rameses GTACircus Director, was proud to show off his speakin’ talents atthe Circus Appreciation Night at Rameses, thankin’ all theCuzzins and Gals, and the other Club’s Nobles and Ladies fortheir hard work and dedication to the cause, helpin’ out on FireWatch, the Gals makin’ them tasty vittles between shows, thehelpers aguidin’ them Circus attendees and wee ones throughthe entry portals, and makin’ the Circus a lot of fun.

Well we are comin’ into that fine paradin’ weather andseason. Put on your best parade duds and come on out to theseparades and shake your booty to that be-utiful Blue Grassmusic. Join us if you can at the followin’ parades:1. Milton Santa Claus -Sun. Nov. 16

ANNUAL IMPERIAL SESSION PARADES Order of Parade Formation:

1. Police escort. 2. Dignitaries other than Masonic. 3. Parade Marshal and his aides. 4. Colours, singly or massed. 5. Musical unit (if possible). 6. Director General. 7. Automobiles of Imperial officers (present and past). 8. Trustees of Shriners Hospitals for Children. 9. Masonic Dignitaries. 10. Uniformed units of host temple. (Uniformed units of other temples in the state or Shrine association

will take their places elsewhere in the parade formation according to their charter dates only.) 11. Uniformed units of Imperial Potentate’s temple, followed by the other Imperial officers’ temples in

protocol order. 12. Uniformed units of all remaining temples will form in order of their charter dates, the oldest dates

going first.

ANNUAL IMPERIAL SESSION PARADE REGULATIONS In addition to Shrine Parade Regulations below, the following regulations apply to Imperial Sessionparades: 1. Instructional Meeting. The Potentate of each participating temple shall designate an officer of his

temple, and a person from each motorized unit participating in the parade, to meet with the ParadeMarshal and the Imperial Marshal prior to the parade(s). The time and place of the meeting will beannounced at an appropriate time.

(a) A number of experienced Deputy Parade Marshals shall be provided with two-way radios and special transportation so that they can patrol the parade route. They shall have authority to remove from the parade any unit which is in violation of Shrine parade regulations or which cause a delay of the parade by failing to maintain proper intervals.

(b) Except with the express permission of the Imperial Potentate, no temple shall be permitted to participate in a parade unless it has at least 15 Nobles in its parade display.

If they have fewer than 15 Nobles, they may parade with their association, which shall follow the temples by organization date of the association.

(c) No temple empty buses, trucks or trailers shall participate in the parade. This does not apply to temple units composed entirely of automobiles.

2. Temple Officers. Except with the express permission of the Imperial Potentate, no temple officers willbe permitted in the parades without their temple uniformed units of at least 15 Nobles. No more thanfive temple officers, including the driver, will be permitted in a car. The temple potentate is to remainin his vehicle.

3. Number of Motor Vehicles. The use of large numbers of cars in smaller local communities isunderstandable. However, the Imperial Session parades require no unnecessary vehicles. These maycause an interruption of spectacular marching features for visiting officers and Divans and may addconfusion and danger in the formation and spoil the pageantry from the viewpoint of the spectators.

4. Floats. All floats must have the prior approval of the Director General. 5. Courtesy. The purpose of Shrine parades is to afford an opportunity for all participating temples to

publicly display the pageantry and glamour of the Shrine. To effectuate this purpose, mutual courtesyneeds to be extended among all temples. Over the years, many temples have expressed dissatisfactionover the lack of consideration by certain participating temples and their units. Splendid marchingunits, and temples with special display features, located by numerical precedence early in the paradeon the actual line of march, have executed spectacular street drills which, in themselves, add much tothe general picture, but which retard the forward movement of the parade as a whole. As a result, many of our newer units, located far back in the line of march, have had their forward movementrepeatedly halted, experienced exasperating delay, been required to stand in line, finished the paradeweary and disgusted, and found themselves marching down deserted streets.

A fitting 100th birthdayfor Mr. Norwood

By Bill FreemanTrent Hills IndependentREPRINTED WITH PERMISSION

It was a one-hundredthbirthday celebration fewwill forget and a fitting

tribute to J.J. Stewart, Mr.Norwood, a “bedrock”member of the township forgenerations and a stalwartleader of the local andregionwide businesscommunity.

Over 1,000 peoplestreamed into J.J. StewartMotors to honour Stewart

who was born August 23, 1914. The lineup to shake his handsnaked outside the showroom and seemed to never end.Outside, there was a festive party featuringclassic cars, a barbecue, face painting and abouncy castle.

It all started with a birthday breakfastthat was a replica of a gathering Stewartand a clutch of friends, including Asphodel-Norwood Mayor, Doug Pearcy, enjoy everymonth. This time the guest list increased100-fold to match the 100 years.

“We have been very close friends overall those years and I’m very proud of thatfriendship. It’s nice to know people likehim,” Mayor Pearcy said, recalling hisarrival in Norwood in 1969 to start abusiness and an early conversation withStewart.

“He said ‘I’ll support you’ and he neverlet me down,” Pearcy.

“It’s a pretty important occasion and Jack Stewart has beena supporter of this community; he has done so much for us. Ifelt I should lead this thing up. It’s just been a wonderful thing,a beautiful thing,” he said.

Pearcy saidStewart’s “sense ofcommunity” wasremarkable.

“That’s been hiswhole life and that’swhy everyone callshim Mr. Norwood. Hedeserves it.”

The breakfastincluded scores ofShriners and Masons, local friends and

political heavyweightslike Peterborough CityMayor Daryl Bennett andCounty Warden J. MurrayJones. A splendid framedbirthday certificate andphoto from QueenElizabeth II was also ondisplay. Bennett saidStewart was “admired asthe bedrock of the localbusiness community inaddition to [his]commitment to the socialand cultural wellbeing ofthe community.”

“It truly has been themark of a life well-livedand that’s what you’re allabout [and] that’s whatthis celebration is allabout and that’s what life is all about,” he said.

“You’ve always been the embodiment of what PeterboroughCounty is all about, your respect for everyone and your concern

for everybody,” Warden Jonesadded. “We are all better offbecause of you.”

Peterborough MP Dean DelMastro called Stewart a“cornerstone of thecommunity.

“He’s lived 100 years andhe hasn’t wasted any days,”Del Mastro said, noting thatStewart still spent time at theoffice every day.

Del Mastro said Stewarthas lived his life by “seizingeach day, making the most ofit and making a contribution.”

Things have certainlychanged since the days of

hand-cranked cars, grist mills, cheese box factories and cattlewandering into front lawns, Stewart admitted.

“Over the last 100 years I have been very fortunate to havemet so many good friends,” he said.

Many of the people he grew up with have passed on but theturnout at theMillennium Roomand dealershipshowed that Stewart “still had alot of good friends.”

And as onebreakfastgoer noted “a good man has good friends.”

The countdown is truly on now! As fall of 2014 is upon us,we come to the realization that we are one year away frommoving Canadian services to the new Shriners Hospitals for

Children – Canada on the Glen site. Work is progressing on the site as expected, but as walls go

up and equipment is installed we are now getting a true pictureof what the future will hold.Q: Mr. Gantt, can you give us an update of the work

accomplished in the last few months?A: Since June there has been a lot of activity on the

construction site, both for the exterior and interior of thebuilding. Inside the building, we have focused on electrical, mechanical and plumbing installation starting from the secondbasement and moving up. Once those trades have completedtheir work, walls have been marked, studded and closed. Thisrequires carefully orchestrated timing by our constructionmanager SNC-Lavalin to maximize the effectiveness of alltrades.

The two tower cranes have been removed from the site, andall of the heavy and large equipment to be installed wasdelivered prior to that. For example, ventilation equipment hasbeen delivered and is being installed on the roof penthouse. Aninteresting fact is that our tower cranes were housed in the

space reserved for our stairwells. They have been replaced bythe stairs and the workers onsite now have access to thestairwells to move about the building.

As far as the exterior shell, it is now 80% complete and weare aiming to have the building completely enclosed before thewinter months so that we can heat inside to continue the workover the winter months.

As well, the lay of the land has changed tremendouslyaround our new hospital. We have completed the backfill alongour foundation walls and the McGill University Health Centrehas been landscaping as well as building the loop road that willgo around the entire site.Q: How many workers are currently on site on a daily basis?A: As of September 2014, we average 180 workers. We

expect to have 200 over the winter months.Q: Is the project still on budget and on time?A: The project is on budget and our construction manager

has managed to catch up with the delays caused in certainareas due to the harsh winter conditions last year.

The outer shell of the building is currently 80% complete and the buildingis expected to be entirely enclosed before the winter months.

Countdown towards 2015 -update on construction

Same ventilation unit installation completed during the second week ofSeptember.
