2010 1903 1903 May 11, 1903, Fidelity Deposit & Discount Bank opens. It is the first bank to be located in the borough of Dunmore. Construction of a modern banking facility at the corner of Blakely and Drinker Streets totals $8,100. Number of full-time employees stands at two. Mr. P.J. Horan is elected by shareholders to serve as Fidelity’s first President. 1922 Growth requires Fidelity to double the size of their banking facility. 1947 Fidelity acquires the old Garden Theatre to allow for further expansion. 1950 Fidelity acquires the former Neptune Hose Company. Coupled with the 1947 land purchase, Fidelity expands both the banking facility and parking lot. 1959 Fidelity Bank opens the first walk-up window, becoming the first bank in the region to offer this unique service. 1958 Well-known businessman Samuel C.Cali joins the Board of Fidelity. 1976 Fidelity adds additional drive-thru lanes at the headquarters branch that allow one teller to serve multiple customers. 1985 Well respected local businessman Patrick J. Dempsey joins the Board of Directors as Vice Chairman. 1988 Michael F. Marranca is appointed President of Fidelity Bank. 1998 Fidelity purchases the former Scranton Tribune Building and announces plans for the state-of-the-art Fidelity Financial Center. Fidelity also acquires two new properties in Luzerne County, marking the first time the Bank has a presence in this area. 1999 Fidelity acquires property along Birney Avenue and opens a new branch. 2004 Steven C. Ackmann is named President & Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity, succeeding acting CEO Michael Marranca upon his retirement. Patrick J. Dempsey, a member of the Board since 1985, becomes Chairman. 2007 Fidelity opens a revolutionary branch office located on Green Ridge Street in Scranton. It serves as a focal point in Fidelity’s commitment to the customer experience, replacing the traditional branch model for one with interactive pods, free coffee and cookies, internet station and living room-like feel. 1928 Growth requires Fidelity to again double the size of the bank. 1929 In response to the Stock Market collapse and federally imposed Bank Holidays, some Fidelity customers withdraw their deposits. Realizing the strength and stability of the Bank, almost all of the deposits are brought back within 24-hours and re-deposited. 1951 Fidelity opens Northeastern Pennsylvania’s first drive-thru bank window. 1967 Michael F. Marranca joins Fidelity as an Assistant Cashier. 1983 The Bank acquires the former A.A. Kreis building to allow for further expansion along Drinker Street. 1994 The Fidelity Board of Directors adds six new drive-thru lanes at the headquarters facility at a cost in excess of $800,000. Banking officials say the new drive-thru lanes show the Bank’s commitment to swily process customer transactions. 2008 Fidelity is the first financial institution in the area to open a “green” branch in West Scranton. In its first year, the branch grows to nearly $10 million in new deposits and regularly plays host to dozens of community minded events. 1999 Two major technological advances occur: Telephone Banking allows customers to access their accounts without visiting a branch. Also, the advent of the Internet brings Online Banking to Fidelity customers. 2009 With great sadness, Fidelity announces the passing of Chairman Emeritus Samuel C. Cali. Mr. Cali served proudly on the Board of Directors of Fidelity for over 50 years. 2003 Shareholders celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Fidelity Deposit & Discount Bank. 2009 Fidelity consolidates its Downtown Scranton and Financial Center offices to form the new Scranton Financial Center. This renovated office serves as an improved single point of customer service for both personal and business banking.
