Turn your thoughts and focus from the task at hand to the layers of your heart. For some of us, we don’t have to dig far to find it. For others, it might be buried deep within folds of unmet expectations and unrealised promises. It’s that deep cry. That prayer. That deep hope that sits in the depth of your heart and very soul. We’re often too busy to really notice it. And, depending on our experience, we can pretend it doesn’t exist. Instead, we can often throw distractions and pleasures at it to try and satisfy the deep longing it creates. But the things of this world cannot satisfy the deep longings of our heart. Many have tried and come to the same conclusion. King Solomon, in all his power, riches and lavish lifestyle, who had everything at his fingertips, came to the conclusion that the things of this world were all meaningless, a simple vapour. What do we do with this longing? This deep cry? This deep hope? The only one who can satisfy us is Jesus. Psalm 23 describes God as the One who brings us into green pastures, leads us beside still waters, guides us along paths of righteousness and pours abundant blessings into our lives. Our children today are bombarded with false stories about how they can be filled and satisfied with the latest phone, iPad, computer, game, clothes, shoes or hairstyle. But it’s never enough. And it will never be enough. Because like a sugar rush that only leaves you craving for more, so the things of this world drive our children- and us- into a cycle of insane reliance on temporary fixes. Instead, we are called to fix our eyes on Jesus, drink deep from the well of His love, feast on the abundant blessings and rest in the assurance that He alone can and will bring deep satisfaction to that deep cry, that persistent longing- your deep hope.

Pause for a moment from the busyness of life. Turn your thoughts and focus from the task at hand to the layers of your heart. For some of us, we don’t have to dig far to fi nd it.

King Solomon, in all his power, riches and lavish lifestyle, who had everything at his fi ngertips, came to the conclusion that the things of this world were all meaningless, a simple vapour.

What do we do with this longing? This deep cry? This deep hope?

The only one who can satisfy us is Jesus. Psalm 23 describes God as the One who brings us into green pastures, leads us beside still waters, guides us along paths of righteousness and pours abundant blessings into our lives.

Our children today are bombarded with false stories about how they can be fi lled and satisfi ed with the latest phone, iPad, computer, game, clothes, shoes or hairstyle. But it’s never enough. And it will never be enough. Because like a sugar rush that only leaves you craving for more, so the things of this world drive our children- and us- into a cycle of insane reliance on temporary fi xes.

Year 7 and 8 RetreatYear 7 and 8 students have been travelling from all over Darwin and the NT by car, bus and plane to join together in the Marrara Year 7/8 classes. Monday, 11th February was a special day of excitement, noise and beautiful people going away together on a retreat.

Activities included ten pin bowling, ice skating, sharing lunch, playing sport and small group games and challenges. These activities enabled students and teachers in Year 7 and 8 to build relationships with each other in an informal atmosphere.

Combining these year levels for PCG classes is a new experience for us all. Being together allowed us to explore new friendships, develop a new understanding of others and share new ways of being with others. This makes way for an exciting year forward. It was an excellent day!

Thanks to all staff involved, and to Mrs Karen Buchanan and Mrs Leanne Jenik who provided excellent assistance with setting up for lunch.

It was wonderful to celebrate some of last year's outstanding Year 12 results at the 2018 Student Awards Presentation Ceremony presented by the NT Board of Studies at Parliament House.

Leah Beissel was awarded the Menzies School of Health Research Biology Award for the top Stage 2 Biology result in the Northern Territory. A special mention to her Biology teacher, Tirzah Mckee, for guiding and mentoring her throughout the year.

Leah was also awarded one of the Top Twenty NTCET Students prizes. This is a lovely recognition for all the dedication and commitment Leah showed in completing her Year 12 subjects with outstanding results, having already been awarded a Merit for Outstanding Achievement in Stage 2 Modern History at the 2017 Awards Ceremony.

Elton Huddleston received the Karmi Sceney Aboriginal Urban Excellence and Leadership Award, a fantastic recognition of Elton’s efforts and leadership at our College. Elton’s family were very proud to witness this presentation, as were two of his teachers at the Trade Training Centre where he trained over the past two years, Anita Tilyard and Gordon Hawkes.

Congratulations to Leah and Elton on these special recognitions of your meritorious work. As a College community, we are very proud of you, as we are of all our graduates.

Meet The PrefectsHey all,

My name is Elisabeth Watson and I've been at Marrara Christian College my whole life! I've loved building friendships with everyone and being a part of the community.

In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, listening to and playing music as well as going to youth every Friday night.

I'm excited to be in the perfect team this year and I look forward to contributing to the school community.

Hey guys!

I’m Will Palmer and this year I will be one of the Year 10 prefects.

I have been attending Marrara since I was in Year 3, when my family moved to Darwin from Newcastle.

My favourite things to do in my spare time are play sports, go to Youth on Friday nights and hang out with friends.

This year I am looking forward to seeing the school community grow and serving others.

Hey guys!

My name is Mikaela Sager and I am one of the 2019 prefects.

I am currently in Year 12 and have been attending Marrara since preschool. I have lived in Darwin since I was four and have loved completing my schooling at Marrara because of the sense of community and support from not only my peers but my teachers as well.

Some of the things that I enjoy doing are hanging out with friends and family, playing and watching sport, being outdoors and immersing myself in God's creation.

I hope that this year, our team we will be able to bless and serve the College.

Hi there!

My name is Jayed Pillay and I’ve lived in Darwin for two and a half years and have been at Marrara Christian College for one.

On the weekends, I like to relax and have fun with my family and friends. I also enjoy reading, drawing and listening to music in my free time. My favorite places to be are either at home or out with my family or friends.

I love many things about the Marrara community. It’s a great place to be and you really feel like you belong and are liked for who you are.

I am very proud to be a part of the prefect team in 2019. I am very excited to see how big of a change we can make together in the Marrara community. The team and I are aiming to bring the community closer together so no one feels left out. We plan on making friendships that will bring us together as one.

God bless you all!

Thomas attended Marrara Christian College from Transition in 2003 until he graduated Year 12 in 2015.

Many staff would remember Thomas and his passion for a career as a race car driver. After three years racing in Europe, Thomas is now commencing his Australian racing campaign as a driver in the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship this year.

We are holding a fundraising night for Thomas on Friday, February 22nd at The Precinct and we would greatly appreciate it if you could come along. All ticket proceeds go directly to Thomas's racing and it will be an enjoyable social night for everyone.Jane Maxwell | Director
