Dear Jarltech Partner,
Progress needs room to develop:: only in 2011 did we put a lot of effort into the expansion and remodelling of the Jarltech headquarters in Usingen; plus, the sister companies in Austria and UK, as well as several of the local sales offices relocated into new office space. Through constant growth in all business segments and the many newly created positions, another change is about to occur. To be optimally prepared for future developments, Jarltech has purchased an additional office building with approximately 1,800 m² of floor space and 3,000 m² of land near our
present premises. After the planned renovation has been completed, many new offices will be built to offer your requests and wishes all the space they need.
Speaking of more: added value is standard at Jarltech. Starting in July 2012, you will be actively doing the environment good with each order placed with Jarltech – without any additional cost. How is that possible? Our logistics partner DPD is converting its parcel shipment to CO2 neutrality this summer. As the first shipping service provider, DPD will then send their, or rather your, packages completely climate neutrally. Orders with Jarltech will not only profit you and your customers in the future, but also the environment. Continue ordering with Jarltech and everybody wins.
This update is all about experience and innovation. With two exciting case studies, our vendors show how customers successfully use their hardware in daily business. Just as interesting is the newcomer of the month, the allinone compact POS system Stingray Envo from Panasonic – read more about it on the next pages.
With kind regards,

A New Era: Getac Tablet Z710
Getac, one of the leading innovators and vendors of rugged computers for all field work demands, brings the Z710 tablet PC onto the market, which sets new standards with its functionality and with its screen design. Not only does it offer a 7" display with integrated features like 1D and 2D barcode scanning, as well as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), but also multifaceted functions for connectivity, communications and data management.
The Z710 includes high precision GPS (Sirf4 module), ecompass, altimeter, GPS, front and rear cameras (HD and 5 megapixel
respectively). The device also offers Input/Output ports including USB, MicroSD, and SIM card, with 16 GB of storage (expandable by MicroSD) with an integrated 8000 mAh battery to support up to 10 hours’ battery life. Naturally, this new flagship in the Getac Android segment is conceptualised for usage in the harshest of conditions, like all other Getac devices. The big touch screen allows the device to retain its full touch functionality even when users are wearing gloves.
In addition, the unveiled design shows the device’s scratch and damageresistant Gorilla Glass. The Getac tablet is IP65 rated against water and dust ingress, can withstand five ft. drops (complete with a military grade MILSTD810G rating), and can operate in the coldest and hottest of environments, from 30 degrees C to +60 degrees C.
Getac Handheld PS236 with Android
Getac now offers the highly robust PS236 with the Android operating system. Compared to the Windows platform,
this new alternative comes with hardware adjustments such as a 256 MB internal memory (compared with 128 MB), as well as a USB 2.0 client. With its 806 MHz, the PS236 remains the fastest device of its kind and the only IP67 certified handheld with telephone functionality. It enters the market with Android version 2.2 and contains an ecompass, an altimeter, integrated GPS as well as a highresolution display. This makes it perfectly suited for GIS monitoring or other GPS and mapbased applications. In addition to its IP67 certification for protection against dust and waterproof conditions up to one meter, the PS236 also impresses with its complete MILSTD810G certification.

Multi-Touch with PCAP
TE Connectivity has recently expanded its Elo TouchSystems portfolio with ad ding projected capacitive (PCAP) touchscreen tech
nology to a number of its leading touch
monitors. The Elo TouchSystems widescreen 1519L and 1919L, as well as the standard format 1515L and 1715L touchmonitors now offer multitouch functionality and increased touch sensitivity for the demands of retail, hospitality and hightraffic commercial use. Adding PCAP technology to the popular desktop touchmonitors provides a unique, aesthetically pleasing seamless design, a sensitive touch response and is able to

After taking over EMS Technologies, Honeywell, the scanner and mobile terminal vendor, now includes the LXE product portfolio of rugged vehicle terminals and tablet PCs.
Honeywell Thor Vehicle-Mount Computer
In today’s supply chain, the only constant is change. Disruptions, whether shortterm like a forklift failure, or longterm like a natural disaster, are a fact of life. The supply chains best prepared to adapt to these disruptions will use mobile computing technology that gives them greater flexibility. The Thor vehiclemount computer (VMC), the tenth generation of VMC developed by Honeywell, provides unprecedented flexibility, and with it, breakthroughs in supply chain productivity.
The Thor combines a fast 1.6 GHz Atom Z530 processor, WWAN, WLAN, and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and a Microsoft Windows CE 6.0 or Windows Embedded standard operating system, with breakthrough innovations that can create
immediate time savings and productivity gains. A fieldreplaceable front panel empowers the end user to repair the most common breaking
point of vehiclemount computers, or convert a standard temp unit to a
freezer ready unit, in a matter of min utes, with only a screwdriver. The Thor’s Quick Mount Smart Dock separates the computer from the power supply, letting a user undock the unit from one forklift and redock it on a second vehicle, without missing a single transaction.
The Mobile Hand-Held Tecton Leading supply chains require mobile computing solutions that meet the needs of the user, the demands of a warehouse environment,
and the speed of today’s enterprise. With its IP65rating, natural handgrip ergonomics, removable pistol grip, and turbocharged PXA320 806 MHz processor running available Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 or CE 6.0 operating system, the Tecton
handheld mobile computer is more than ready for the challenge.
The successor to the MX7, the Tecton’s enhanced overall performance is the sum of features
purposebuilt to optimize the productivity of a supply chain worker. Keypads protect against airborne and spilled chemical agents and are epoxytopped to fight wear. Electrical components are soldered and glued to printed circuit boards to better withstand drops and shocks. A purposebuilt, fieldremovable trigger handle provides an alternative ergonomic scanning form factor that delivers intuitive point and shoot scanning, and improved operator performance and productivity.
Marathon Field Computer for Supply Chain, Retail and Field Service Enterprises
Honeywell presents the Marathon Field Computer, a fullyrugged device, which runs full
Windows XP or Windows 7. The device has an ergonomic form factor and multiple data input options, enhances process efficiency in applications including: intermodal facilities, warehouse supervision, manufacturing main
tenance, quality control, retail linebusting, rental inspection, and industrial field service. The Marathon puts laptop computing power into a form that any worker can use anywhere, at any time.
The Marathon connects via 802.11 a/b/g/n, and is powered by an Intel Atom processor that runs full Windows XP and
Windows 7 operating systems. The device offers multiple builtin dataentry options, including an outdoorvisible touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, integrated fingerprint reader that doubles as a mouse, and a highresolution colour camera.
Additional accessories include a magnetic stripe reader, 2D imager and extended life batteries for continuous 8 or 12hour operation, all of which mount securely to the unit while maintaining an overall IP rating of 65 for protection against dust and water.

Brilliant Presentation on 22 Inches
The newest monitor from the brand name vendor Glancetron equally impresses with its widescreen format at the POS, in the back office and at an info point. With a screen size of 55.9 cm (22"), it provides ample space for a wide variety of applications. Special focus during its development has resulted in outstanding presentation: it ensures for optimal readability and sharp images with its high resolution (1680 x 1050 pixels), 16.7 million colours and a contrast rate of 1000:1. A simple connection via the DVI or VGA interface brings the Glancetron 22 up to top performance from the very start. Users also effectively utilise multimedia programs, since it comes with a builtin speaker.
Thanks to its 5wire resistive touch technology, reliable performance awaits users for any application. It makes no difference whether you operate the monitor with a finger (even with gloves) or a pen. Its stable base provides the necessary support during operation. Thanks to VESA standard, you may also mount the monitor to the wall. The monitor adds design accents to any work area with its sleek and timeless design and fine surface.
The monitor accommodates for frequently changing users of various heights easily with its viewing angle of 160°, ensuring for optimal visibility for everyone. The attractive priceperformance ratio makes this touch monitor a compelling alternative, and one which is not only popular with newcomers.
Four to Three for You
The Glancetron GT8USB impresses with its practical format: its size is perfect for
use as a second monitor, a small display at the checkout or in ware houses. With a mere size of 170 x 128 mm and a screen size of 21.3 cm (8.4") it fits any where. Its technical data is equally impressive: thanks to a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels (4:3) and a generous viewing an gle of 150° (horizontally) and 130° (vertically), optimal presentation and readability are guaranteed. The contrast rate of 600:1 and reaction time of 8 ms make working with the GT8USB enjoyable. Integration of the black or white display is done simply via USB.
Another special feature is its low energy consumption: it only requires 2.5 Watts for operation. You also remain flexible with mounting options. Its innovative and stable stand is also the bracket for wall mounting (VESA optional), plus it hides all cables to maintain an orderly appearance.

Four Epson label printers from the TMC3400 series have been supporting this Bad Mergentheimbased logistics service provider since November 2011. The TMC3400 is a colour system based on Epson piezo printing technology. Thanks to its durable pigmented ink, the machine produces longlasting, smudgeproof colour printouts on various backing materials such as, for example, precut labels, wristbands or – as in the case of Würth Industrie Service – continuous selfadhesive labels. It is precisely this efficient printing technology which has been a deciding factor in the choice of the Epson system.
Tough industrial operating environment
»Industrial customers place very harsh demands on printed labels. In manufacturing companies, they work a great deal with oils, cleaning agents and greases«, explains
Andreas Kania from Würth Industrie Service's Data Processing Department. »Labels which are intended to last in this environment must be resistant to chemicals and dirt. With its ink, the Epson TMC3400 also guarantees good legibility of the label even in tough daily logistics use.« This is a basic prerequisite of a working warehousefilling and buffer system.
Another prerequisite of its use is the rapid processing of incoming orders. Today, manufacturing companies operate almost without any parts warehouse. Depleted stocks of Cparts must be replenished in the shortest possible time. In the selection process, the TMC3400 also scored points for speed. The machine, which has a userfriendly front filling system, delivers up to 1,000 labels per hour. The print data themselves are automatically sent from the Würth Industrie Service conveyor checking stations to the Epson printers. It has also been a considerable
challenge for the company to implement a print system which permits maintenancefree use. A TMC3400 ink cartridge is enough for up to 7,500 labels and the Auto Cutter, includ ed as standard, reliably cuts roll or continuous paper to individual specifications. This avoids unnecessary paper waste and eliminates the need for storing different label sizes.
A picture speaks a thousand words
Before switching to the Epson label printers, Würth Industrie Service produced the labels by the thermal transfer (TT) process. Apart from these machines' higher power consumption costs, the TT printers were not capable of processing images. Only when the TMC3400 came along could illustrations of the particular parts be printed onto the label, and thus onto the Würth small load carriers. Since customers use the containers particularly for warehousing, product illustrations make it easier to locate a part quickly. Colour printing, which also had not been possible up to that point, now helps to avoid errors in the removal of the products from the containers and at the same time maximises the quality and reliability of supply. Printed customer logos, for example, customise the supplies and make it almost impossible for products to become mixed up.
Accordingly, the first phase of implementation of the new Epson printer has been positively evaluated by Würth Industrie Service: »We have been using this type of printer for approximately four months and can report only positive experiences to date«, concludes Andreas Kania.
EPSON TM-C3400: EFFICIENTLy MANAGE C-PARTS WITH EPSON LAbEL PRINTERS
»Cparts« are a major concern for industrial customers: A large number of items cause considerable administrative effort and expense in purchasing, approval and control. They represent, however, only a small product value, which often does not even amount to 10% of product sales. It is not uncommon for around 50% of all orders to revolve around the procurement of Cparts. This is why leading manufacturers such as Würth Industrie Service GmbH & Co. KG specialise in the provision of services concerned with the procurement and management of Cparts for special and mass producers. The customer thus reduces his expenses to a minimum and also obtains smooth flow control and documentation of each product order and movement. The Würth Industrie Service system is based on barcode supported container systems providing fast, safe supply of Cparts. Epson TMC3400 Series label printers undertake printing of the individual adhesive labels and are thus to be found at the heart of an efficient process chain.
Würth Industrie Service is a fullline distributor and logistics service provider in the area of assembly technology, supporting industrial customers in the optimisation their Cpart supply. With a range of over 1,000,000 items, the company is an ideal partner for customers from the automotive, plant and mechanical engineering, assembly and chemical sectors, plus many more. In order to guarantee seamless, punctual delivery of Cparts, Würth Industrie Service uses a Kanban system, centred around a sophisticated circulation system of special transport boxes.
These transport boxes, known as »Würth small load carriers« (WKLT), are filled and given a customerspecific barcode label and then remain with the customer as a storage box. When they are empty, they are collected and returned to Würth Industrie Service, where they are cleaned and refilled. To ensure that this circulation system is working, all the container movements are recorded, followed up and evaluated.
This occurs at Würth Industrie Service, based on a special container label. In addition to data such as the container size, filling capacity and storage site, it contains all the necessary information for batch followup, such as the customer's and Würth's item number, filling capacity and a batch number. Its high quality allows the customer to also use the exchange label for shelflabelling. In the process, the Cparts are removed from the flexible front of the WKLTs.
High demands of the labels
The Würth Industrie Service process requires the use of special labels, which are strongly adhesive, in order not to detach in the industrial environment but which can also easily be removed, without leaving residue, after a container has circulated. The company places even higher demands on the labelprinting itself. Thus the Cparts are illustrated on the container labels and, as such, make it easier to find a special item.
Epson TM-C3400s support the kanban container system from Würth Industrie Service GmbH & Co. kG

Panasonic’s intelligent concept for your customers’ POS
It is time for the next generation: Panasonic’s newcomer to the POS market, the allinone system JS960 or Stingray Envo, is the direct successor to the premier POS system Stingray. All it takes is a glance to be impressed by its attractive price tag and more compact form. Thanks to its minimalistic elegant design, the JS960 has been created for the checkout at more upscale restaurants, in bakeries and in hotels. Its robustness has made it a standard at some of the largest worldwide fast food chains. Benefit too from its extremely high reliability provided by longlife components.
Panasonic customers worldwide know why they trust the Japanese IT giant’s systems. In the POS segment alone, Panasonic has been a major actor for almost 35 years: more than 400,000 installed systems speak for the high degree of valuable experience of this vendor. High reliability and long life cycles are the main distinguishing features of the POS systems. Panasonic also pays attention to optical attractiveness, as the thousands of Stingray sales will attest to; it even won an iF Design Award.
Thanks to the JS960's modular construction, you offer your customers a POS system whose management and maintenance are very simple and costsaving. Easy access to main components such as the hard drive and memory is a part of this concept, including their replacement in case of an emergency – even directly by the user.

INTERNATIONAL dRAGON bOAT FEdERATION USES ZEbRA CARd PRINTERS FOR COMPETITOR IdS
ZXP SERIES 3: IdENTIFICATION CARdS WITH ZEbRA CARd PRINTERS
Central to a sport spanning over 6000 years, the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) promotes dragon boat racing worldwide. Over 70 countries are members and 2500 competitors are involved in the World Championships each year from a vast variety of accredited clubs.
A software and printer solution has now been developed specifically for processing Dragon Boat regatta participants, using Zebra’s ZXP Series 3 printers to print personalised race ID cards and streamline the competitor accreditation process.
The ChallengePrior to implementing the Zebra solution the Federation faced a huge challenge in tracking competitors and their eligibility to race for a country or club in IDBF championships. They also faced difficulty checking that the right people were in the correct racing boats.
Previously ID cards were made by manually filling in competitor details on cardboard forms and attaching printed photographs. There was considerable inconsistency between the different ID card formats across the various clubs, as each club issued their own badges, with different accreditations using different badge types and databases.
Issuing the badges was also costly and time intensive, and crucially, the cards were prone to fading when wet!
The SolutionFollowing a recommendation from the database designer, the IDBF briefed Zebra to develop a solution that could be fed from a central database of all IDBF competitors through software designed specifically for handling dragon boat regatta issues.
From this the Federation can now print common accreditation badges where each competitor gets its own unique PIN number, which stays with them throughout their career. Organisers can now print multiple personalised accreditation cards at each location, using the portable Zebra printer.
Zebra ZXP 3 printers were chosen due to their portability, speed, cost effectiveness and ease of use. Now the IDBF can print badges linked to a central database, allowing them to instantly identify the status of each competitor at any given location.
Badge IDs now show championship logo, year and sponsor logos and contain embedded information including competitors’ name, passport number, photograph, boat competition and competitor class.
The Benefits• Cost effective: The Zebra ZXP 3 printer
allows the IDBF to keep costs down – a crucial requirement for a voluntary organisation, which also ensures that membership and entry fees can stay low.
• Time savings: As the printer is highly portable, quick and easy to use it saves a significant amount of time in administrating the races.
• The ID badges can now contain an array of useful competitor information which makes it easy for marshalls to check competitors and adds an element of professionalism to the team logistics.
• As the federation adopts an increasing number of competitors, the barcoding system allows them to instantly identify who they have in each race and where they are at any given moment. Competitors moving from event to event now also have the same ID.
The IDBF now benefits from the enterprise standard for ID passes across all its 2500 competitors. During 2012 the system is likely to be extended to 30 of its 80 country membership base, by which time a total of 25,000 ID badges will have been issued through Zebra’s ZXP 3 series card printing solution.
