SCRIPTURE READINGS
First Reading: Acts 8:5‑8, 14‑17 We learn about the joy and enthusiasm with which the Samaritans received the Gospel. Second Reading: 1 Peter 3:15‑18 Christians are urged to remain steadfast in their allegiance to Christ, giving evidence always of gentleness and hope. Gospel: John 14:15‑21 To love Christ is to listen to His words and, the help of the Holy Spirit, to put them into practice in our lives.
COLLECTION BREAKDOWN: May 4th - May 11th:
Our thanks to all of our parishioners who respond each week to the needs of our parish and who make their weekly offering a part of their budget. May God bless you for your generosity.
Scripture reflection with Fr. Tim + Pause + Reflect + Act +
1) In the first reading, Philip goes to Samaria and “proclaimed the Christ to them.” In your life, who has proclaimed Christ to you, either in word or deed?
2) In the first letter of St. Peter, the apostle urges his fellow disciples, “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.” What would be the reason you would offer?
3) Jesus promises his disciples that after his ascension, the Holy Spirit will remain with them. How have you experienced the Spirit’s presence in your life?
Thank you to all who continue through envelopes and online giving to support our parish. They are so appreciated. To avoid any confusion please give to our parish directly by mail or through Online Giving and disregard any notice from the Diocesan Office of Development regarding donations to the parish. Simply go to: https://www.goodshepherdrc.org/online-giving-osv
A BIG "THANK YOU" to
Our Good Shepherd Parishioners!
Thanks to all who support the Parish Food
Pantry. The Pantry could not remain in existence without the generosity of our parishioners and donors. We are extremely blessed to have involved parishioners who shop and donate every month. This mission would not transpire without Deacon Keith and our faithful volunteers who devote themselves to working at the pantry, in addition to shopping weekly for supplies, sorting and shelving the deliveries and donated items in order to prepare for Thursdays.
Please drop off donations outside the doors facing the rectory: Monday - Friday 9 AM-2 PM
Thank you again for your generosity and kindness to those in need.

A Message from Fr. Tim May 17, 2020
Greetings and prayers: As we continue with the absence of public worship, the Bishops in New Jersey this week, have decided for just this year to move the Solemnity of the Ascension from Thursday, May 21st to the seventh Sunday of Easter, May 24th. Since Easter Sunday, the Scriptures have allowed us to go from the empty tomb, the power of community in the story of Thomas, companionship on the Road to Emmaus, the great love as found with the Good Shepherd, the promise of many rooms in the Father’s house and the wisdom of Jesus’ words: “I am the Way, the Life and the Truth”. The Resurrection story has introduced us to Jesus beyond space and time. While we mourn the absence of the coming together of our parish families, we are inspired and guided by these Scripture passages and by all those living the Gospel in their daily life. We have learned through this crisis how resilient people are, had more time for reflection on prayer life, placed more value on community and have realized what is and is not important. People have become more caring, kind, and gentle. Parents have developed a new appreciation for teachers, while discovering they too possess the skill to educate their children. As health restrictions are eased and we are able to start gathering again, it is important for everyone to accept that things will not immediately go back to life before the Corona virus. We know the desire to return to our Good Shepherd parish community, participate in the Liturgy, and receive the Eucharist is incredibly strong, but we ask that everyone approach this reopening with a patient, loving and charitable mindset. We are aware of our RCIA candidates, our First Communicants and Confirmation candidates and their desire for the reception of the sacraments and are developing plans. The specific details of when public Mass will resume and how it will be celebrated are still being determined. The return will occur through a gradual phased process. A few things to be mindful of during the reopening of the parish:
Attendance will be limited.
Social distancing will be practiced.
Liturgical changes may be in place.
With the Ascension, as Jesus goes back to God for those left behind there is a call to action. Jesus reminds us that He will not leave us as orphans but will send the Advocate to guide us, strengthen us, and connect us with the apparent absence of God with the presence of God, “And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
Peace, Fr. Tim
Much appreciation to our parish community mothers;
Christine Robinson, Colleen Maciejczyk, Lori Sanchez and
Pamela Schwartz, who recorded and shared
their message on the reflection of the vocation
of motherhood last weekend.

UNIVERSAL PRAYER FOR OUR BISHOP-ELECT Kevin J. Sweeney Good and gracious God, We stand
on the threshold of a new time for our diocese. As we cross that threshold in thankfulness, we ask you to pour out an abundance of grace on our Bishop-elect Kevin Sweeney that he may faithfully assume his ministry among us and that, together with him, we may work for the building up of our local church. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
FAITH FORMATION NOTES
The Word of God This Week (John 14:16-20)
Jesus Sends Us the Holy Spirit to Help Us Jesus told His disciples, “If you love Me, do as I command. Then I’ll ask the Father to send you the Holy Spirit who will help you and always be with you. I won’t leave you like orphans. I will come back. People won’t be able to see me but you will see me. If you love Me, you will do what I’ve said, and my Father will love you because He and I are one.” Family Corner Faith Focus How is the Spirit of God present in your home? Is it obvious to anyone who visits your home that God has a place? Do you have Christian art displayed anywhere? Is there a crucifix on your wall that acts as a reminder that your household is dedicated to Jesus? Visual expressions of the importance of the Spirit of God can help remind your family that God is always with them. (Pflaum)
SYMBOLS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Dove: comes from the story of Jesus’ baptism
Fire and Wind: Pentecost– fire calls attention to the strength and force of the Holy Spirit. The wind calls attention to the Holy Spirit breathing life into the Church.
Water: represents the cleansing and life-giving action of the Holy Spirit at Baptism
Cloud: used as a symbol of the Holy Spirit because clouds provide life-giving water especially in the Old Testament
Oil: symbol of the Holy Spirit’s uniting us with Jesus, the Messiah
Dear God, Thank you for who You are
Thank you for resurrection joy Help us to be excited about Your story
So we can share the good news with others Thank you for Your love

CLOTHING BIN WILL REOPEN:
The Clothing Bin in our parking lot that supports the work of Catholic Charities, will OPEN this week.
This program makes it possible for Catholic Charities to receive much needed funds for their work. THANK YOU!
Saint Paschal Baylon was born into the Golden Age of the Church in Spain: the 16th century. He worked as a shepherd where he had ample time for prayer and mortification. He eventually joined the Friars Minor and served as a brother in several capacities. Saint Paschal had a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.
SAINT OF THE DAY May 17, 2020 Saint Paschal Baylon
ASK A FRANCISCAN… At the start of Mass, why do we say, “Lord, have mercy;
Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy”?
Shouldn’t we be thanking God for mercy already
shown?
Our prayers are not so much instructions given to God, as
they are ways to remind ourselves of all the reasons to be
grateful for what God has already done. Although God
knows our needs before we voice them, we may not realize
our needs until we express them. In that sense, prayer is
more for our benefit than for God’s.
Please join His Holiness, Pope Francis, who has chosen the following intention
to be prayed for during the month of May.
For Deacons: We pray that deacons, faithful in their service to the Word and the poor, may be an invigorating symbol for the entire Church.
