History of National Deworming DayTo combat the situation of worm infection in India, Indian government (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) launched the National Deworming Day (NDD) in February 2015 as part of the National Health Mission. The aim of this programme is to deworm all the children from 1 to 19 years and improve their well-being. To run the programme successfully and to achieve the goal, all the school teachers and workers are provided special training and resource material. It has emerged as world’s largest public health campaign preventing children from intestinal parasitic worms. In 2015, this programme was launched in 11 States/UT with the target of benefitting 10.31 crore children of 1 to 19 years whereas 8.98 crore children received deworming tablet. The target of this programme in 2016 was to cover approximately 27 crore children. Along with administering albendazole tablets, some other activities are also performed such as behaviour change practices, cleanliness and hygiene guide, use of toilets, wearing shoes or slipper, washing hands before eating food and after using toilet, etc in order to reduce the incidents of re-infection. In 2017, it is estimated to cover around 34 crore children under ministry of health’s National Deworming Programme to reduce worm infestation hampering the growth of schoolgoers

Why National Deworming Day is Observed?National Deworming Day is observed in our country to reduce the cases of worm infections among kids. Kids are vulnerable to the worm infections in their childhood, so it is very necessary to save them from worm infection through good habit (hygienic) practices and deworming tablets. Digestive system disorders (especially infection) are very common to anyone especially children as it is the only system has to tackle with raw and cooked materials (food and water) from outside that may be dirty. Children are the future of the nation; they must be healthy and happy in all the sense. National Deworming Day is a big initiative campaign run by the government of India (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) to make people aware about worm infections, its bad effects on the health and cure and prevent further infection through deworming tablets. Worm infection can make children anaemic, malnourished, weak, sick, and tired with poor concentration. This campaign is implemented by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in all the schools and preschools (anganwadis) across India on 10th of February. It is implemented aiming to combat parasitic worm infections among school going kids (preschool, school) by the use of albendazole (400 mg). It is a chewable tablet distributed to the children at all government, government-aided, and private schools including anganwadis. What is SpecialDeworming tablets will be given free of cost to all the children (1 to 19 years) on 10th of February to ensure that all the children are dewormed. This initiative has a specialty that it will be followed again by a ‘mop-up day’ on 15th of February in order to distribute the deworming tablets to the children who were left or absent (due to absenteeism) in the school on 10th February. Why do children in India need Deworming?Worm infection is very harmful, specially in kids, which interferes with the mental and physical health of the children which put their future at risk. It interferes with the nutrient uptake of kids and creates various problems such as anemia, malnourishment, and other mental physical disorders. Deworming is a very

necessary step taken by the government for children’s health, education and productivity. Acquired Dyslexia-Brain trauma or injury.Developmental Dyslexia - Caused by hormonal development during early stages of fetal development.Impairment in acquiring reading abilities. Brain areas like parietotemporal region and occipitotemporal region involved in language acquisition shows slow activity levels.3. Can teachers or parents cause children to have Dyslexia?NO, the teachers or parents cannot cause the child to have Dyslexia but they can certainly cause a child to suffer much more due to their ignorance. It has also been noted that during pregnancy, if a mother has passed through stress or any other infection, the new born will be affected . Also, during delivery, a minor injury due to forcep may cause a child develop Dyslexia. Intake of heavy antibiotics during early years has also been found to have concerns with learning. The other cause is Attention Deficit Disorder. Fresh Thoughts – Ann Purvi LakhaniTo be Human is the right religion “Being human is given but keeping our humanity is a choice.”The whole world is divided into several religions based on different types of traditions, cultures and regions. One common thing among all is that we all are humans who are divided by religions but united by humanity. Humanity is the basic trait of being a human, it simply means that you consider a person human first. Everything else is secondary, and be it his cast, religion, country or language. Before becoming the disciple of any religion, we should first become a good human. But, humanity today is falling back whatever steps we take forward, they take us back as human beings. We all were humans until

President’s DeskCelebrating the pioneers – United Nations celebrates 11th Feb as International Day of Women and Girls in Science. It's no secret that science and gender equality aren't on the best of terms; even in the modern day, women are still heavily underrepresented in fields pertaining to science and technology. For centuries, women have struggled for recognition of their academic achievements, and they rarely received it during their lifetime — but if the empowering women scientists are anything to go by, they weren't the type to give up easily. Saluting the spirit of such geniuses –“If you know that you are on the right track, if you have this inner knowledge, then nobody can turn you off……. No matter what they say. ““Don’t let anyone rob off your imagination, your creativity ….. your curiosity.”

race disconnected us, Religion separated us, politics divided us and wealth classified us. People have become educated but have not become human. It has become obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity. We live in a world that is capable of printing out tridimensional copies of almost any object but in the same world 870 million people go to bed each night hungry. We live in a world torn between technological progress and human regress where we move forward just through our inventions, but not through our understanding of each other. We prefer today to invest in research for new smart-phones or the cure for baldness than in finding the cure for HIV/AIDS and feeding the world. Also inventions like telephone, mobiles and internet have made communication easier, but we have never felt so alone and out of touch as we do today. Hidden behind the screens of our computers and smart phones, we feel alienated from what the world has to offer. ‘WAR’ is the biggest defeat for humanity. It is the IRONY of our times that though, the world has never been at such peace as it is today, still all nations are investing in arming themselves and preparing for the inevitable “NEXT WAR”!!!
