PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTLeonard K. Pero announces that he would like to
seek his 3rd term as Supervisor of the Town of Brant.
In the past 8 years I am proud to say that my accomplishments are many, but my most important has been that I have worked hard to balance the budget and bring your taxes down every single year. The renovation of the Brant School into our new Town Hall saved you, the taxpayers, over a million dollars, and the expansion of the Town & renovation of the Me-morial Parks were accomplished with grant monies. In 2005 I stated that I care about you, and I hope that I have proven that I do, working for a part time salary of $19,000, but as a full time supervisor working 50-60 hours a week. I would like everyone’s support so that I can continue to bring improvements to all of our town.

In MemoriamTo our dearest Father,Joseph S. Cervola Jr.
who passed away February 18, 2011.It has been two short years and yet the pain continues to feel so much stronger.
We work, we play, we adjust our lifestyles as the days simply grow longer.I will never forget my visit to your house which would be your last day.
The Good Lord sent a glorious Angel to finally take you away.Racing cars, hunting, and your girl Kathie, were your special kind of fun.You are sorely missed by your three daughters and your one and only son.
We laughed and shared stories of the special times we shared.Your eyes filled with tears because of how deeply you cared.
While in Heaven with your wife, please take time to enjoy a well deserved rest.I never said it enough, Dad, but I want you to know, that you always were simply the best!
Written By Joseph J. Cervola
WE LOVE AND MISS YOU WITH ALL OF OUR HEARTS!Sadly missed by Brother Ron, Patti, Karen, Terri, Joey and our entire family

This free event will be the second in a series of Community Housing Seminars planned for the Lake Erie Beach community. The goal of the series is to trigger reinvestment and mo-bilize the residential community to improve their quality of life. The February 26th seminar will feature informa-tion on four topics: Residential Investment Tax Exemp-tion; Available Home Rehabilitation Programs; Financial Literacy/Credit Counseling; and, First Time Home Buyer Programs. The Housing Seminar Series is one of the initiatives recommended in the 2010 Lake Erie Beach Neighbor-hood Revitalization Strategy, which was developed with significant public input. “We have seen positive changes in the community over the last two years; however, the current economic conditions have made improving the condition of the current housing stock much more chal-lenging,” said Lori A. Szewczyk, Evans Director of Com-munity Development. “We hope to educate the commu-nity about the various resources that are available,” she said. “Evans Bank is proud to partner with the Town of Ev-ans to offer this educational opportunity to our communi-ty. We believe in this community and are compassionate about the people we serve within it. We hope by join-ing forces with the Town of Evans we can help move this strategy forward and bring value to the homeowners by offering information about various available programs" stated Mary Hosler, Vice President, Evans Bank. Reservations for those wishing to attend the event are recommended as space is limited. Please RSVP to 549-3915 or email at [email protected].

WASHINGTON INSPIRED PRESIDENTS’ DAY
President’s Day is an American holiday that is celebrated each year on the third Monday in February. School children typically get the day off from school, and many professionals also get the day off from work.Established in 1800, President’s Day once went by a different name. Known as Washington’s Birthday, which is still the legal name of the holiday, this day was meant to celebrate the first President of the United States, George Washington, whose birthday was February 22. Congress declared that day a federal holiday more than 200 years ago, and eventually the holiday grew to become a celebration of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on February 12, as well. The holiday is now a celebration of the lives and accomplishments of every U.S. president.Few Americans would be hard pressed to identify George Washington’s visage, which is depicted on some American currency, including the $1 bill. Born in 1732 to Virginia planters, Washington’s interests included western expansion, which he was able to take
part as a teenager, helping to survey the Shenandoah lands at the age of 16. Washington was also interested in military arts, and he was commissioned a lieutenant colonel in 1754, eventually playing a role in what became the French and Indian War.In 1759, Washington was serving in the Virginia House of Burgesses, an assembly of elected representatives of the English colonies in North America. Growing frustrated with and feeling exploited by British regulations, Washington voiced his resistance to restrictions placed on colonists, who were moving toward what would become the American Revolution. At the Second Continental Congress, which assembled in 1775, Washington was elected Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, taking command of troops at Cambridge, Massachusetts on July 3, 1775.Under Wash ing ton’s command, the Continental Army would ultimately succeed, winning the colonists their independence from British rule.In 1787, Washington presided over the Constitutional
Convention in Philadelphia, where the new Constitution was ratified. Within two years Washington was unanimously elected as the first President of the United States.Though the current two-term limit was not law at the end of Washington’s second term, he chose to retire from the Presidency anyway, leaving office in 1797. He would retire to his Virginia home at Mount Vernon, where he still engaged in various business dealings. Within three years of his retirement, however, Washington would fall ill of a throat infection that ultimately took his life on December 14, 1799.In addition to providing the inspiration for President’s Day, Washington’s legacy is that of a hero who led an army of colonists to a victory over a dominant empire. The Washington Monument and Mount Rushmore are two of the more notable monuments honoring the first President of the United States. In addition, the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C. is so named in honor of George Washington.

In 1992 the Lake Shore Central School District developed the Wall of Fame program for recognizing the outstanding achievements of alumni of the district. These individuals are people who, after graduation, greatly contributed to the well being of our society through their hard work, talents and leadership. Nominees must be a graduate of at least 15 years and may not currently be an employee of the Lake Shore Central School District. Every other year the district holds an induc-tion ceremony in May honoring new inductees. Once again, we have begun the process of selecting a new class for induction. If you know of any alumni who should be considered for this honor, we ask that you provide us with a completed application by Monday, February 25, 2013. Applications are avail-able in the District Office located at 959 Beach Road, Angola, NY, and on our website www.lakeshorecsd.org, under “Our District”, “District Forms”.
Each nominee will be reviewed by the district committee for possible induction into the “Wall of Fame”. Individuals who are selected will be afforded a place on the “wall” with a picture and biographical information. In addition, it will be expected that the honoree address our high school students, with a reception being held in their honor. Past honorees are as follows:

LAKE SHORE MIDDLE SCHOOL CITIZENSOF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER
The Brant-Evans Citizens for Responsible Choices and Lake Shore Central Middle School would like to an-nounce the December Citizens of the Month. These stu-dents are being honored for being good citizens in their school and community.
EMILY STOLARSKI Emily Stolarski is the daughter of Chris and Janet Sto-larski of Derby. She is a sixth-grader and is a CRC Citizen of the Month for December. In school, Stolarski enjoys playing the flute and is in the jazz band. Her favorite class is social studies and she is a sixth grade advisor. Outside of school she likes to play soccer and basketball (Little Cagers) and enjoys reading. Stolarksi’s future goal is to go to college and to be an attorney. Her favorite thing in the world is her family. The character trait she believes is the most important for continuing success is respect. “If you do not respect others, they won’t respect you back,” Stolarski said.
JADE COZZO Jade Cozzo is the daughter of Jim and Diane Cozzo of Derby. She is a seventh-grader and is a CRC Citizen of the Month for December. In school, Cozzo’s favorite subject in school is science. She plays the saxophone and is a member of the school band and chorus. She is also involved in the student gov-ernment and with the schools community service and volunteer group. Outside of school she likes to swim and hang out with her friends. Cozzo’s community involvement includes doing work with Most Precious Blood’s Youth Church. Her future goal is to be a kindergarten teacher. Cozzo said that her favorite thing in the world is family. The character trait she believes is most important for con-tinuing success is honesty. “Being honest is so important. If you are honest, people get a good impression of you,” Cozzo said.
ALLIE GALLUZZI Allie Galluzzi is the daughter of Carmen and Cindy Galluzzi, of Derby. She is an eighth-grader and is a CRC Citizen of the Month for December. In school, Galluzzi enjoys being in the orchestra, where she plays a cello. She plays lacrosse and her favorite class in school is science. Outside of school she likes to spend time with her family and friends, She also enjoys partici-pating in outside sports and likes bike riding. Galluzzi’s community involvement includes volunteer-ing with a local church in Lake View and working on vari-ous service projects. Her future goal is to become a dentist. Galluzzi said her favorite thing in the world is her fam-ily. The character trait she believes is most important for continuing success is being responsible. “Throughout your whole life you have to be responsible, because your actions will follow you through your whole life,” Galluzzi said.
BOY’S VARSITY SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAM PLACES 5TH AT CHAMPIONSHIPS The Boys Varsity Swimming and Diving Team had a great showing at E.C.I.C Championships over the week-end. The team placed fifth out of 13 teams. Fred Ball, David Dombrowski, Noah Michalic, Austin Smith, Mike Roach, Dale Nappo and Brian Mitchell all swam season best times. The divers also all topped their career high milestones on Friday night. Tyler Wodja and Lee Gaskin took 3rd and 4th place respectfully. Travis Wright won the event and qualified for the state meet with 514 points. That point total brought down a school record that was set back in 1980. The squad will compete in Class Champi-onships this weekend.

on your Retirement!
Ric worked for the Lackawanna Police Department for 21 years, most recently as a detective and part time as a patrolman for the Evans Police Department. Most mean-ingful are the relationships he has built while on the job, one of them being the D.A.R.E. program, where he taught many elementary children about drugs and alcohol and the effects they have on their mind and body. This was one of Ric’s proudest moments!* Please join us in celebrating Ric’s accomplishments and
