Cab. The ergonomic cab is designed toprovide the operator with easy to use,pilot operated controls in a comfortableworking environment. Twin tilt cylinders,coupled with a wide cab opening, three-point grab iron and deep, skid resistantsteps make it easy for an operator to getin and out of the cab. The entire cab alsotilts rearward to provide excellent serviceaccessibility.

Standard Equipment. The standardofferings for the 216 operator station area ROPS/FOPS cab, an adjustable fore/aftstatic seat with a retractable seat belt,armrests, hand and foot throttles, a rearwall liner, instrument panel and pilothydraulic control system.

Cab Options. The deluxe cab includes asuspension seat, headliner, floormat, hornand additional working lights. A coldweather package is also available thatincludes sliding side windows, cabheater and engine coolant heater.A cab door is also available.

Hydraulic Joystick Controls. LikeCaterpillar Excavators, the 216 iscontrolled by two hydraulic joysticks.The right lever controls loader functionsand the left lever controls machinedirection.

Operation. The joystick controls and theS control pattern used to operate the216 reduces operator fatigue. The standardhand and foot throttle allows the engineto run at a constant speed or enables theoperator to vary engine speed throughoutoperation. An optional fourth functioncontrol allows the operator tohydraulically side shift cold planersor angle brooms.

Auxiliary Hydraulics. On/off auxiliaryhydraulics are standard on the 216allowing for work tool operation.Optional proportional hydraulics areavailable to enable the operator to varythe amount of flow to the work tool.

Operators StationOperator fatigue is reduced and production is increased as a result of pilot operated,

joystick controls.

Instrument Panels. Two instrumentpanels are located in the upper right-and upper left-hand corners of the cabto maximize the viewing area to theloader when in the raised position.

Left Control Panel. The upper left controlpanel contains standard equipmentincluding indicator lights (LEDs), keystart switch, hour meter, parking brakeswitch, glow plug switch, auxiliary

override switch and continuous flowswitch. Optional equipment includesan automatic self-leveling switch andauxiliary electrical control switch.

Right Control Panel. The upper rightpanel contains a fuel level gauge and adome lamp, as well as provisions for anoptional rotating beacon, front and rear-working lights.

ServiceabilityOwning and operating costs are reduced through long service intervals and convenient maintenance points.

Service Access. Service accessibility for Caterpillar SkidSteer Loaders is a key differentiator when compared to itscompetition. Simplified service is built into the 216s design,and maintenance points are grouped in easily accessiblelocations.

Engine Access. The rear engine compartment door opens90 degrees to expose an engine that is mounted lengthwisein the frame. This arrangement gives access to both the leftand right side of the engine.

Filters. All filters are easily accessible, making routine servicequick and easy.

Fuel Filters. Final fuel filter, fuel water separator and primingpump have been combined, reducing maintenance cost andincreasing serviceability.

Cooling System. The radiator, hydraulic oil cooler and grilltilt up to make more room during maintenance or to allowcleaning between the grill and cooling package.

Tilting Cab. The cab tilts rearward and is held in place by aself-latching mechanism, exposing all pumps, motors, valvesand lines to make repairs easy if necessary.

Ground Level Maintenance. Sight gauges are conveniently

located for daily fluid-level checks. S

oil analysis portsare installed to allow regular monitoring of the engine andhydraulic oil quality for preventive maintenance. In addition,ecology drains are fitted to the engine oil pan, coolant systemand hydraulic system, helping prevent spills.

High-strength, Prestressed Chains. Runin an oil bath for continuous lubrication.Chain wear adjustment is provided viaslots in the axle housings.

Drive Axles. Are forged, induction-hardened and sealed for life.

Parking Brake. Is spring-applied andhydraulically-released.

Reliability. Is built in and factory testedto ensure years of trouble-free operation.The hydraulic system is cleaned to alevel exceeding industry standards, andthe machine is dynamometer tested todeliver the performance and reliabilitycustomers expect from Caterpillar.
