Technical Services – Built Environment - Hydraulics Dam Vegetation Management Project Number Page 1 of 1
Introduction
Intent of Schedules
The intent of these Dam Maintenance Schedules is to provide information for external contractors
to provide Council with a price for undertaking periodic maintenance work on dams not maintained
by Council and third parties. The schedules outline activities to be undertaken by the contractors at
each site i.e. grass/weed slashing and control, and eradication of identified invasive plants on the
dams.
Strategic Fit
To facilitate the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of dams, in compliance with the Water Management Act 199 (Part 8A - Safety of Dams), and ANCOLD (Australian National Committee on Large Dams) Guidelines on Dam Safety Management - 2003, City of Launceston has a Dam Safety Management Program which includes frequent vegetation management of its dams to facilitate optimum performance.
The Dam Safety Management Program is a combination of policy, procedures and activities which, when methodically carried out, will ensure that each dam remains safe.
