HOLY CHILD PARISH BRIDGEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA

Jesus, you are the vine and we are the branches. Help me remain in you by taking time each day to deepen my relationship with you. Stay with me and empower me to

live your commands and bear your fruit.

This Weekend: On Mission Announcements: Today at Mass you will hear about the On Mission for The Church Alive! decisions for your parish. In the

announcement you will learn: (1) the final Parish Grouping that your parish will be in; (2) the clergy team assigned to serve the grouping; and (3) the maximum number of Masses for the grouping beginning October 15th. With these announcements, there are still many tasks ahead to bring about the vision for vibrant parishes in our communities. The first task over the coming weeks and months is to build relationships, especially between the parish communities in the grouping and with the clergy teams who are eager to begin serving you. As we continue to share in the joy of the resurrection of Jesus during the Easter season, we must not be discouraged by the challenges that may come. Instead, we are called to go forward with hope for the good of our parishes and for the good of our own lives with God. The information about your grouping and all the groupings is available online at onmissionchurchalive.org and will be shared in your parish bulletin and the Pittsburgh Catholic next weekend. May God bless the Church of Pittsburgh, our parish communities and each of us.

Second Collection at all Masses next weekend, May 5 & 6 is our monthly Building Maintenance Collection. This collection helps our parish continue to keep our buildings repaired and updated. Please be as generous as possible.

Attention Altar Servers, Ministers of the Eucharist and Lectors: We are going to start a tracking program to help us see where the needs are with the liturgical minsters. To help with this tracking transition, I want to make sure those that are being scheduled still want to be on the schedule. Please let me know if you no longer want to continue in your ministry. Starting May 5th and 6th, there will be a sign in sheet posted on the wall near the window in the Priest’s Sacristy. Kindly sign the sheet next to your name or fill in your name if it is not listed. We will continue the sign in sheet every weekend. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your service. Your feedback is also appreciated, please contact Mary Kay Petrini.

All High Schoolers Are Invited to the St. Barbara/Holy Child Youth Group Event on Sunday, May 6th from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at St. Barbara Hall. There will be Food, Games, and a Faith Witness.

Praise & Adoration: Are you interested in hearing more about the changes to our parishes that were just announced? Join us for an evening of praise and worship on Wednesday, May 16 at Holy Child Church. Fr. Dennis will preside and preach about moving forward as a Catholic Community through these changes. Fr. Joe will be hearing confessions and our new Director of Evangelization, Tony Ferguson, will be sharing his conversion story. The evening begins at 7:00 PM and all are encouraged to attend! See flyer for all details.

Reflecting on the Word The word “remain” fills today’s readings: remain on the vein, in Jesus, and allow his words to remain in us. One meaning of remain is to stay in the same place or with the same person or group. We stay on the vine by staying with Jesus and those who belong to him. In that way we invite his words to stay within us. In “understanding the word,” we learned that “to remain” entails an intimate, re-ciprocal, and enduring relationship with Jesus. Our rela-tionship with him will bear the fruit of living his command-ments, so others can see that we remain in him and he remains in us. Saul, the persecutor, had an encounter in which Jesus invited Saul to stay with him and Jesus to remain in Saul. It wasn’t until they saw change in Saul that the early church moved from fearing him to trusting him. Barnabas was the witness who invited them to open their eyes. Saul’s words and actions bore the fruit of his and Jesus’ new relationship. For Jesus’ words to remain in us, we need to make time to read, listen to, and reflect on them. Let them prune away whatever does not reflect Jesus’ way. When Jesus remains in us and we remain in him, our words and deeds bear his fruit. St. Francis de Sales taught that it’s not enough to carry the Lord on our tongue, speaking God’s praise, or in our hearts, sharing our love and affection for God. We must carry the Lord in our arms by good works. Without those works, the other two ways of carrying the Lord do not amount to much. Remain in Christ today. Stay with him. Show that his words remain in you. Carry him in your arms by your good works. Living the Word Scripture Reflections and Commentaries for Sun-days and Holy Days. Year B

A Family Perspective (by Bud Ozar): Like the vine grower in today’s gospel, parents must “prune and cleanse” the branches in their family if their children are going to be rooted. Discipline, limits and setting goals are a necessary part of parenting so our children will grow and “bear fruit”.
