The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announces that it is conducting a public hearing and extending the public comment period on a Proposed Cleanup Plan for the GE Pittsfield/Housatonic River Site. The proposed cleanup plan addresses the Rest of River portion of the Site and consists of a Draft Modification of General Electric's Reissued RCRA Permit and a Statement of Basis. In June 2014, EPA had announced the start of a public comment period on the Proposed Cleanup Plan. That comment period has been extended to allow for the submission of written comments through October 1, 2014. The plan describes proposed cleanup measures for the PCB contamination in and around the Housatonic River from Pittsfield, Massachusetts downstream through Connecticut.

In addition, a Public Hearing on EPA's Proposed Cleanup Plan has been scheduled for September 23, 2014 at 6:30PM at the Lenox Memorial Middle and High School Duffm Theater, in Lenox, Massachusetts to allow for the public to make oral or written comments and submit data on the proposed cleanup plan.
