Project Management Establish a standard for variables including a common

option choice vocabulary:◦ 97, Missing◦ 98, Unknown◦ 99, Refused to answer/Preferred not to answer

Create a common data element list with values for your department.

Create data quality rules. Lock forms after verification. Ask for a data dictionary review by PHS. Download your data dictionary in Development mode

on a regular basis.

REDCap Best Practices

Page 6: 2/10/15 Terri Shkuda Research Informatics redcap@hmc.psu.edu.

Design Preferred field types

◦ Text field with validation (format and ranges)◦ Categorical

Keep all date fields of the same format for the project. Identify text fields with a common list of values and convert to

categorical. Group fields on the same form that are collected together. Field notes: supply units, formats

Testing Pilot the survey

◦ If the same answer is given for a field for all records, leave it out.◦ You might pick up on confusing questions.

Test all data entry flow especially branching logic
