Summative Assessment of Learning• Align to WV 21st century content
standards and objectives
• Provide individual and group achievement status at a point in time
• Inform students, educators, parents and the community of student, school and system performance
Policy 2340: WV MAP
• Policy defines Building Level Coordinator and Examiners.
• Counselors are not required by Policy
2340 to serve as Building Level Coordinators or monitor assessments.
• Counselor responsibilities are defined in
Policy 2315.
21st Century Content Standards and Objectives
• Reflect national content standards
• Incorporate NAEP, TIMSS and PISA frameworks
• Include 21st century learning skills and technology learning tools
• Align to ACT and SAT standards

Formative Assessments for Learning
• Conducted throughout teaching and learning
• Learner-centered, context specific
• Provides feedback to students and parents for monitoring progress
• Include multiple performance-based measures
Classroom Assessment for Learning
• Occurs during the instruction• Student Involvement critical• Acknowledges instructional
decisions of teachers and students
• Continuous descriptive feedback• Only difference between
formative and classroom assessments is student involvement.
Benchmark Assessments of/for Learning
• Use multiple measures• Provide feedback on students’
relative progress toward instructional targets

WESTEST 2 Field Test
No individual student, school or county results. Test of the items, not student performance. West Virginia teachers created many items for the WESTEST 2 development.
PSAT Pilot for 10th Grade Students• Measures academic achievement
in mathematics, critical reading and writing
• Identifies students with potential to succeed in AP courses
• Predicts success students will have in AP courses
*WVDE will fund Pilot for 10th grade this year. Other grade level PSAT test takers will proceed as in previous years.
