Newsletter A Message from the Principal
Thank you also to the staff who were present and
especially to Kelly, Ian and Jasmine Fowler who
spent several hours at the hall setting up for the
evening. The hall looked wonderful and all Year 7
students received a Memory Bear to sign.
THANK YOU
A huge THANK YOU to Palu (Piya’s mum in Room
16) who has designed two new hop scotch games
near the library for the kids to play. They are very
colourful and are already well in use. Palu has
another two designs that she will complete in the
near future which will provide our students with
more outdoor play activities to do.
Greetings to staff, students, parents and community
members and welcome to this edition of the school
newsletter. As we approach the end of November, the
Christmas period is rapidly approaching. Staff and
students are busily revising all of their work
completed this year, ready to take a well earned
holiday before returning in 2013.
SCHOOL CLOSING 2012 / OPENING 2013
Just a reminder that school finishes for students on
Tuesday, 18 December and staff on Wednesday,
19 December. The office will officially close at 12 noon
on Wednesday, 19 December.
School resumes for staff on Thursday, 31 January and
students on Monday, 4 February. The office will
officially re-open on Tuesday 29 January.
The uniform shop will also open on Thursday,
31 January from 1pm - 3pm. This will also be the time
when class lists will be published on the Deputy
Office windows.
PRESENTATION / GRADUATION
A reminder that the Graduation and Presentation
evening begins at 6.00pm SHARP in the Applecross
Senior High School Gym. Staff are to be there by
5.30pm. Parents and students to be seated by
5.45pm. This evening is the culmination and
celebration of another outstanding year of education
at Ardross Primary School. Students have been
practicing extremely hard with Years 1-4 completing
amazing EduDances, Year 5 - Zumba, Year 6 - Salsa
and the Year 7 students Ballroom Dancing. All
students are required to attend. Parents are
requested to advise their child’s classroom teacher if
they will not be present at this event due to leaving
school early. The evening will conclude around 8pm.
Parents are requested not to take their children early
once their item is finished, as it is important as a
school community that we acknowledge the Year 7
students at the conclusion of the evening. I look
forward to seeing many of you at our end of year
celebrations.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Alessandra Ho from Room 20 who
has been selected to represent Western Australia at
the Hong Kong International Synchronized
Swimming competition from November 30 to
December 2. We wish you the best of luck Alessandra!
Thank you also to the families who ordered hot dogs
yesterday. Mrs Ong and her helpers provided around
250 hot dogs!
Also to the Year 7 students who were great
ambassadors for the school when we travelled to Miss
Mauds for dinner last Thursday evening and then
returned to the Mount Pleasant Church Hall for our
social dance. All of the students were exceptionally
well behaved, and Mr and Mrs Gatley, who have been
coordinating the social dance program for 26 years
were proud of the students and their dance
performance.

COMMUNITY SURVEY
Thank you to the 116 respondents from the recent school
survey. We are presently analysing the data and comments to
assist in improvement planning for 2013. Two areas that have
already been identified and being planned for in 2013 are
extension and challenge programs for junior primary students,
similar to programs operating in Years 4 to 7 and consistency
in class content and activities between classes and teachers.
The last four areas of the survey are below.
Positive Response: 89.8% Negative Response: 5.5%
Positive Response: 77.5% Negative Response: 10.6%
Positive Response: 87.2% Negative Response: 8.1%
Positive Response: 90.8% Negative Response: 6.1%

school community for their outstanding contributions this year.
PYJAMA & CUDDLY TOY DAY - 23 NOVEMBER 2012

P&C NEWS
It is amazing how quickly the year has sped by, and how close
we are to our annual summer holiday. In preparation for the
toys which will doubtlessly arrive in our homes over the long
summer break, it might be a good opportunity to spring clean
the kids’ rooms once more before the year is out. If you have
toys in good condition you no longer want or need, you could
pass them on to our school. Helen Brown from Room 16
coordinates the distribution of these toys among the different
age groups. In particular, we are looking for construction toys
such as Lego, Duplo, K’nex, sand toys, dress up items, craft
materials and board games.
We will be seeking volunteers to assist in managing our P&C
next year, including a Treasurer, President and Secretary.
Each of these roles will give a parent the opportunity to meet
other parents from our school community and make a
difference to their kids’ schooling. These roles will only take a
few hours each month. If you have any questions about the
P&C or any of these roles, please feel free to drop me an email
The next P&C meeting is on Monday, 26 November at 7.30pm
in the staff room. It would be really great to see you there!

P&C Secretary

WATERWISE TIP -
TOILETS AREN’T BINS
It’s surprising how many people use the toilet to flush
away cigarette butts, tissues, cotton buds and other
rubbish. Apart from the potential to cause problems in
the wastewater system, this practice wastes large
volumes of water. Place a small bin in your bathroom
or next to your toilet so that people have the waterwise
option of discarding rubbish.
ANGLICARE CHRISTMAS GIVING
Support the gift of love this Christmas to a family you
don’t know. Support Anglicare’s Christmas Giving
program by donating an item of non perishable food.
Each classroom (Years 1-7) have a box to fill to support
families in need. Items can include: pasta, tinned foods,
tea & coffee, rice, vegemite, long life milk, tinned tuna
and many more! Help us support Anglicare in their work
this Christmas. Boxes will be in classes until Tuesday,
4 December.
