AN Concepts

• The AN architecture is built on three major innovations:

• The concept of a single, universal type of networking entity, the Ambient Network (AN)

• Consequently, a single universal networking reference point, the Ambient Network Interface (ANI)

• A set of naming and identification capabilities, independent of the underlying infrastructure

Current Status

• Mid-way through Phase 2• Finalising concepts and writing detailed specifications• Implementing and validating ideas

• Project is being audited next month• Many new deliverables/papers will be available over next

month• Available from www.ambient-networks.org

• Demonstration system is up and running illustrating a number of key ambient concepts

• Initial simulation results have also been produced

Ambient and IEEE 802.21

• Small team looking at how to share ideas with IEEE 802.21

• First of these are concepts for Access Control for IEs

• Other areas of investigation:• MIHF/Inter-function communications• GLL/ARI concepts and the IEEE 802.21 SAPs

• Abstraction of metrics into a generic format

• Abstract formats comparable with bearer requirements
