Introduction

The 20th century was a time period lasting from 1900 – 1999 so it was a very recent time period. In this century many different kinds of sculptures came out with vivid new shapes and ideas. Here are a few of them.

Henry Moore

Henry Moore was 20th century sculptor whose style of art was abstract and a lot of his figures were made lying down. After World War 2 his sculptures became much larger and are often put outside for anyone to see, like on Hampstead Heath and in Kew Gardens.

Sarah “The Cheese Lady” Kauffman

Sarah “The Cheese Lady” Kaufmann is an installation artist from Wisconsin, USA. As her name suggests, she makes 3D sculptures out of cheese. These range from people, animals and cartoons. Sarah claims that she does this because she has had a life-long love for cheese thanks to growing up on a cheese farm and that because her sculptures are made out of cheese that they aren’t polluting or harmful and when they become too old, they can just be eaten. This goes for the bits of cheese that get removed during sculpting – they can be eaten instead of thrown away.
