Do you ever have those moments when you recognize a deep sense of fulfilling your purpose? If you're like me, you might get those glimpses on a Wednesday night serving in our Awana club. We hosted our parent orientation night this week at Awana. We spend a fair amount of time letting our Clubbers know what is expected of them, what is needed for them to succeed in Awana, and hopeful-ly much more time tying this to the reality of knowing, loving, and serving our Lord Jesus Christ, but we don't often think of helping the parents recognize their role in this grand plan. Awana has helped to remind us that we are not the experts, the Bible calls on parents to be the primary spiritual mentors in a child's life. On Wednesday, we had a chance to meet with parents of our Clubbers and share with them that truth. It was a great time together, and I ask that you join me in prayer that the mes-sage we shared with them will be a game changer in some of those families; that they recognize the privilege of parents to be the spiritual leaders and mentors to their children. A big thank you to Paul and Gina Michaud and Diane Melius for providing Awana dinners the past two weeks, and thank you to Susan Graves for delicious sweets to bless our parents with this week. You all add a very important dimension to the Awana ministry at NKBC; thank you! This Saturday will be our annual Awana family hike led by Awana dad Travis Morrow; thank you Travis! You won't want to miss our Council Time lesson next week from Glen Melin on Starry Night at Awana. Glen has a passion for God's amazing creations around our galaxy and beyond, and he will share that passion next week! Lastly, we do still have two open secretary slots to fill, and these are critical to the operations of our Awana club. If you have been thinking about where you might be able to help out a bit around the church or in a ministry, try us on for size! Kelly Evans can answer any questions you might have, and you are welcome to visit for a night with NO OBLIGATIONS just to see what a Wednesday night looks like. Have a blessed week! Commander Tim Exodus 9:16 "But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth."

Missionary of the Month

Lori Harms Serving with Converge Worldwide in Japan

Lori’s school year has come to an end. Lori is a missionary in Japan educating, equipping, and encouraging Third Culture Kids (TCKs) at an international Christian school. It is her prayer that this generation of mobile youth would embrace Christ and their unique upbringing to expand God's kingdom in this increasingly multicultural world

School is out but the spiritual learning continues. Pray for the students to develop a hunger for reading the Bible and living out what they are learning. Pray also for the 5 new incoming teach-ers, who will be loving on these students in the next school year, that they would transition smoothly and connect well from the start.

Lori has just returned to the states for a 6 month home assignment, from September 2015-February 2016. She is now in Minnesota, USA. She is in the process of readjusting to life on this side of the ocean. Remembering to drive on the other side of the road and not to stop at empty railroad crossings. Her sleep schedule is getting set to this time zone, and her stomach is adjusting to new foods. She’s been focused on reconnecting with family and had some time away on a mini-retreat. She is now moved into her new place, with her new roommate and her thoughts are starting to focus on plans to reconnect with ministry partners and friends who she hasn't seen since her last home assignment.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes It’s almost that time of year when we will start gathering items and putting together shoeboxes to be sent to kids around the world. We received a letter from a mis-sionary in Senegal who has witnessed the children as they have received their Christmas Gifts and has some suggestions for items for the shoeboxes.

Best Gifts: - For any age boy, a soccer ball. Get the best quality mini soccer ball that you can fit into the box when it is inflated (or send a deflated ball with a pump) and basically forget about everything else! - Brand new nice short sleeved shirts (no writing on them) for boys and girls. - Small flashlight with batteries (most families don’t have electricity so a working flashlight is gold!) - Good quality melamine plate, bowl, and/or cup. - Soap and a plastic soap dish that has a cover. When you bathe standing on a big rock in the dirt as kids do in Africa, you really need a soap holder. Families never have enough soap. - Toothbrush in a toothbrush holder. The plastic case for the toothbrush is really great when you don’t have a sink/counter/tiled bathroom but rather brush your teeth outside squatting over dirt and need to keep it in your room. - Pencils, erasers, colored pencils, and sharpeners for all school aged kids. Good quality pens for kids aged 10-14, in black, red, green and blue. All of these are required for school and the ones from America last so much longer. Great Gifts: Sunglasses for older kids Hard Candy and Gum Socks Hair elastics or head bands for girls Jump ropes Comb A simple watch for older kids Band-Aids Harmonica A solar calculator for older kids Marbles For the youngest girls, a baby doll with light brown skin and no hair Toy car, truck or airplane for the youngest boys, the larger the wheels the better Not as good gifts: Anything with instructions in English, even if it seems simple to you Yo-yo’s A toy that is not universally recognizable ie: card games Playdough Stuffed animals (A lot of them connote evil to the kids) Gloves, winter hats T-Shirts with words or pictures on them Stickers or temporary tattoos Anything cheap or fragile
