Revel in this cosmopolitan city’s lively blend of East and West, ancient and modern. Istanbul is home to the spectacular Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar. DAY 6: KUS ¸ ADASI/EPHESUS, TURKEY Kus ¸ adasi is a resort town that boasts stunning beaches and acts as a jumping- off point to explore the legendary ruins of the city of Ephesus—an important archaeological site and a historic Christian pilgrimage destination. Here, visit the Library of Celsus and the Temple of Artemis. DAY 7: SANTORINI, GREECE Explore Santorini, a panorama of indigo-domed churches and chalk-colored homes clinging to stony cliffs along the caldera. Black sand beaches dotted with pebbles abut deep, azure waters, and breathtaking rock formations climb from the volcanic floor. DAY 8: KATAKOLON, GREECE In Katakolon, relax at a seaside café or browse the galleries and shops. Head inland to discover one of Greece’s most celebrated landmarks, ancient Olympia. This sanctuary of treasures includes the famed stadium where the Olympic Games commenced in 776 BC. DAY 9: CRUISING THE ADRIATIC SEA DAY 10: KOTOR, MONTENEGRO Beneath the limestone cliffs of Lovc ´ en lies the secluded coastal city of Kotor. Settled during Roman times, this medieval, UNESCO-listed walled city showcases narrow streets, Venetian architecture, and the twelfth-century St. Tryphon Cathedral. DAY 11: SPLIT, CROATIA Split was built in the fourth century around the Roman palace of Diocletian, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the historic palace then check out Split’s Archaeological Museum or climb up to the bell tower of St. Dominus Cathedral, the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world. DAY 12: RAVENNA, ITALY Captivating Ravenna, once the western capital of the Roman Empire, today is an off-the-beaten-path treasure filled with Byzantine charm. Be sure to explore the city’s eight UNESCO-listed churches and mausoleums adorned with incredible early Christian mosaics and frescoes.
