OPEN CLASS GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

ENTRIES ARE OPEN TO ALL RESIDENTS OF NEBRASKA

UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.

Bring exhibits to the proper exhibit area. They will then be entered in

their classes by the superintendent of the department.

All possible care will be taken, but the Madison County Ag Society will

not be responsible for loss or damage to entries including containers.

Each exhibitor is permitted only one item in each class number.

NO “FOR SALE” signs will be permitted on entries.

Please read all rules pertaining to each department before entering.

Entries must be ready for judging as stated in the instructions for

each department.

All open class contestants, please note that only so much money is

available for cash awards. In the event that the total amount for the

premiums exceeds the budget, individual cash awards will be reduced by

percentage to stay within budget.

Awards specified to Madison County can be awarded to only residents of

Madison County.

DEPARTMENT A –

OPEN CLASS FUN DOG SHOW An open class fun dog show will occur on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at

9:00 a.m. at the Activities Center of the Madison County Fairgrounds in

conjunction with the 4–H Dog Show. This show is open to Madison

County residents ONLY, both youth and adult.

DEPARTMENT B –

OPEN CLASS CAT SHOW The Open Class Cat Show will follow the 4-H Show on Friday, July 9,

2021, at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Cats must be four months or older. Under four months will not be

accepted. Cats must be free of fleas, ticks, and ear mites, as well as free

of discharge from nose and eyes. Cats must have current rabies and

distemper shots and exhibitor must provide written proof of vaccination.

No expectant or nursing mother cats and no female cats in heat may be

entered.

Show is open to everyone, including 4-H exhibitors. Limit of two cats

per exhibitor.

2. Long Hair Kitten with Fluffy Tail (4–8 months)

1. Pre–registration for exhibitor numbers only is encouraged but not

required. Forms are in the back of book. Mail before July 1, 2021, to:

All exhibitors will be assigned an Exhibitor Number. This number

must appear on all entry tags in order to receive premiums.

Entry tags are available from the Extension Office in Norfolk or the

Fair Office in Madison. Exhibitors are encouraged to complete entry

tags prior to bringing exhibits to the Fair. Exhibitor Numbers, Entry

Forms, and tags may also be filled in at entry time. All items must be

entered in the name of the producer/maker.

2. Entries are open to Madison County Residents and Madison County

4–H family members unless otherwise specified.

3. All possible care will be taken, but the Madison County Ag Society will

not be responsible for loss or damage to entries, including containers.

4. Each Exhibitor is permitted only one item in each class number.

5. Items must be clean and NOT PREVIOUSLY ENTERED, otherwise

they will be disqualified. Items must be strictly grown/made by the

For 2021 Fair, items must be grown in 2021.

8. Exhibits should be selected for type, uniformity, quality and maturity.

6. All exhibitors will please note that only so much money is available

for cash awards. In the event that total amount for the premiums

exceed the budget, individual cash awards will be reduced by

percentage to stay within budget.

7. NO "For Sale" signs will be permitted on entries.

8. Exhibits should be selected for type, uniformity, quality and maturity.

9. Floriculture entries MUST be grown by exhibitor. Some foliage must

be left on specimen exhibit if variety allows. Each exhibitor must

furnish containers for each entry. ALL specimens must be in clear

glass containers. The entry will be judged on the basis of size, form,

color, substance, condition, and typical performance of that variety. If

the specimen variety is entered incorrect it will be set aside for

display only.

10. ALL foliage must be removed below water line.

11. Flowers for arrangements need not be grown by exhibitors, but all

arrangements must be made by exhibitor. Flower arrangements will

be judged on distinction, perfection, proportion and balance, relation

of material and container, color harmony and condition of quality of

material. Condition of material should never be inferior.

12. Potted plants must be in the container at least one week before

exhibiting. A flowering plant must be in bloom.

13. Premium money may be picked up at release time or from Fair

Office by August 15, 2021.

3. All possible care will be taken, but the Madison County Ag Society will

not be responsible for loss or damage to entries, including containers.

4. Each Exhibitor is permitted only one item in each class number.

5. Items must be clean and NOT PREVIOUSLY ENTERED, otherwise

they will be disqualified. Items must be strictly grown/made by the

exhibitor and completed since 2020 Fair, unless otherwise stated.

For 2021 Fair, items must be grown in 2021.

6. All exhibitors will please note that only so much money is available

for cash awards. In the event that total amount for the premiums

exceed the budget, individual cash awards will be reduced by

percentage to stay within budget.

7. NO "For Sale" signs will be permitted on entries.

8. Items may be covered with clear plastic for display purposes.

9. Ceramic, China, Porcelain, Glass & Dolls will be displayed in glass.

10. Premium money may be picked up at release time or from the Fair

Office by August 15, 2021.

Esther Schulz Memorial

This award is donated by a grandchild of Esther Schulz and is awarded to

the top three individuals in Open Class who have the most entries

displayed at the fair. The tribute is provided as an honor to Esther Schulz

for her many years of participation at the Madison County Fair. Each year

she would display the most entries by an individual. Her efforts represent

a beauty that was present at each county fair. This beauty continues within

all individuals who help promote the Madison County Fair.

Awards are presented for:

1st Place $25.00 and Trophy

2nd Place $15.00 and Trophy

3rd Place $10.00 and Trophy

Elaine Schulz Memorial

The annual award is given to the individuals who participate in the open

class categories of knitted or crocheted items, Afghans, and needlecraft.

The award is based on “quality workmanship”. Elaine was proud of the

“hand work” and the “tender loving care” each item needed. This

fulfills a dream from the past generations of a unique art and she wishes

to pass this activity to the future generations.

Awards are presented for:
