Wyreena Community Arts Centre is a historical property in Croydon, featuring The Arts Lounge, The Conservatory Café, beautiful gardens and interactive PlaySpace.

Wyreena provides an exciting range of arts-based term programs and workshops for all ages and abilities.

Wyreena is a place where the community can come together, to enjoy, participate and explore in the creative arts, within a welcoming and inspiring environment.

Enrolment InformationNew enrolments will be taken from 9am Monday 15 June.Full payment is required at enrolment.

Payments can be made via cash or credit card (Visa & MasterCard).

Enrolment forms and an enrolment policy agreement are required to be filled out and signed once per year for children’s classes. Adults must read and agree to the terms and conditions before paying in full.

Courses for children

Learn to Draw (5 to 7 yrs)This engaging class is designed for young artists who are interested in developing their drawing skills. This is a skill-based class where the activities are designed to develop skills and confidence in the drawing process.

The Creative Art Studio (8 yrs and over)A class for children who love to make, paint or create. By using mixed media, this class will explore a wide variety of art forms.

Drawing and painting (8 yrs and over)Our experienced tutors will inspire and teach the art of drawing and painting. Children will develop basic skills in both areas and their skills will be challenged as their abilities increase.

Wyreena Community Arts Centre Term 3 2020We are delighted to be able to re-open our doors after a period of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our Term 3 Program offers a selected range of workshops and classes. All classes will adhere to the social distancing and hygiene recommendations with a reduced number of students in each class in order to achieve safe social distancing.

We know that many of our Wyreena regulars have been eagerly anticipating returning to our classes and activities and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Pottery

Our young potters will learn hand modelling techniques, sculpture, decorating and glazing. Our experienced pottery tutors will teach the children all there is to know!

Conservatory Café The Conservatory Café has now re-opened and is pleased to be welcoming customers back - they also have delicious new menu on offer. This is an ideal place to catch up with friends and family in a beautiful environment. Due to the current restrictions on social distancing within café’s, bookings are recommended.

The Arts Lounge is a vibrant exhibition space and meeting place. Featuring work by 2D and 3D artists in a lounge environment, visitors can relax while enjoying the artwork. The featured artists change bi-monthly and most work is for sale.

Live MusicOnce a month on a Friday evening, Wyreena hosts Music Café in The Conservatory Café. The program features some of Melbourne’s most talented musicians. Tickets are $35 per person including a delicious supper. Drinks can be purchased from the bar. Bookings are essential.

Terms and Conditions

1. A refund will only be issued if Wyreena Community Arts Centre is notified no later than one week prior to commencement of course.

2. Once a course has commenced, no refunds will be issued. There are no refunds on classes you miss due to your inability to attend.

3. If your course is cancelled, a full refund will be issued

Drawing and painting

Using a variety of mediums including pencil, pastel, acrylics and charcoal, enhance your drawing and painting skills. All skills are catered for, whether you are a beginner or a more advanced student.

Oils and acrylic paintingThis course covers a broad range of subjects, including still life, landscapes, contemporary and abstract. Our tutors cover colour, composition, and technique. You can bring your own subject, or your tutor can assist with subject material. This course will give you the tools to build on or extend your painting practice. All levels are catered for.

Pastels

This class will cover a step by step still life in the first two classes. You will then work from your own reference to practise how to use pastels. You will learn about tone, colour and technique. For beginners to advanced and those who want to brush up on their pastel skills.

WatercoloursYour tutor will teach you about composition and how to wash and layer colour. The perfect class for all levels of experience.

MosaicsIn this class you will design artworks out of tiles, glass and broken china. Learn all the techniques required to create table tops, plaques, pots or anything you can think of. This class is perfect for the beginner or more advanced student.

Mosaic artIn this class you will create your own mosaic tiles, which are then used to make your artwork. You will spend time making tiles out of clay - adding and subtracting clay to create a 3D tile - and then finish off your piece under the guidance of your tutor.

PotteryLearn how to create sculptures by hand building, or using the wheel, to make your own functional pieces. You will also learn how to glaze your artwork, to produce beautifully finished pieces. Suitable for beginners to advanced students.

Makers Workshops

Clay Dragon workshop with ClaireIn this workshop you will learn simple techniques that even a beginner will find easy while having fun making your own terracotta clay dragon. This beauty is a perfect addition for any garden, makes a gift or as a personal piece. Two firings, no glazing. > 18 July > 10am to 12 noon > $70 (includes materials)

Jewellery making with Juliet This workshop is a beginner’s introduction to jewellery making, beading, wire wrapping and much more. Participants will be introduced to basic tools and equipment, the use of jump rings, head pins, clasps, toggles and all basic techniques. > 8 August > 9.30am to 12.30pm > $85 (includes materials)

Soap Making with KimIn this workshop you will produce up to 20 bars of soap. The morning session will have you making Castile (unscented olive oil) soap. In the afternoon session, you will make Olive/Coconut/Palm soap using ethically and sustainably sourced palm oil. > 22 August > 10am to 2.45pm > $140 (includes materials)

Shibori Dye Techniques with JulietThis workshop introduces participants to this Ancient Japanese art which involves many patterns created by the folding, stitching or pleating of the cloth prior to dyeing. Students will begin with different ways of folding to create certain patterns, then be able to test out these folds on washed cotton material squares.
