(Roadway condition surveys are done approximately every two to three years.) The goal is to repair a portion of the roadways listed with conditions 4 through 5 while making our roads safer and more maintenance free in the future. The rating methodology used for this report is based on the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Guide for Design of Pavement Structures. During the field survey conducted in the fall of 2018, every road within the Borough limits was visually inspected and assigned a numeric rating between 1 and 5 based on the guide, with 5 being the worst. These Liquid Fuels funds are distributed throughout every municipality in the state, using road miles and population as a formula for the amount of funding that applies to each Township or Borough. These funds will be used for road resurfacing, as well as the construction of new ADA compliant curb ramps as required by Federal Law. Since 2011, Perkasie Borough has contributed $1,281,073 to the Road Program while $2,053,239 has come from the Liquid Fuels funds. LETTER FROM THE MAYOR

Greetings Friends and Neighbors,

Spring is time for “New Beginnings”, a cycle of new life. Taking us through the changing seasons, preparing us for the warmth of summer and eventually to the harvest of fall. Then into the dormancy of winter, so that we can enjoy the next “new beginning”.

This time we experience as part of the seasons, is like the recurring “new Beginnings we have in our life cycles. From adolescents,

to young men and women, to middle age, to senior citizens. each a “new beginning” in its own way, along with the excitement of the events common to each of these time periods.

In my own journey, there have been numerous “new beginnings” having to restart with the loss of vision, to partial sight, to total

blindness, and each “new beginning” that was required. Communities are no different, as they grow and the challenges change, the Borough of Perkasie grapples with the demands of

“new beginnings” One of these is the joining of the Perkasie Police Department of Chief Robert Schurr. Chief Schurr officially joined the department on March 16, he is a 1986 graduate of Pennridge High School, so in a way is coming home for a “new beginning”. Please take the time to welcome and encourage him. WELCOME ABOARD Chief Schurr!

More “new beginnings”, all the young people graduating from High School and College, their fear and excitement to move on to

their next “new beginning” Let all of us not lose that excitement in our own journeys, take the time to welcome the new neighbor, to encourage the new

graduate, the new employee or to congratulate each other teach others “new beginning”. Want your own “new beginning”? There are many opportunities to volunteer, look around, call the Borough, join a club or church,

seek the opportunity to be a part of a “new beginning” both for yourself, and even more for your friends and neighbors. Make a difference, with your latest “new beginning”. Blessings to all,

John D. Hollenbach, Mayor

Quakertown restored 7 benches, a picnic table and installed 1 new one bench throughout Perkasie’s Park system to fulfill his Eagle Service Project. Both the Perkasie Borough and community financed the project. Borough Council awarded $300 for the project and Brayden set up an online Go Fund Me that circulated on Facebook and raised the additional $900 needed within 3 days. You can enjoy the benches at Kulp Park Wading Pool and the Tot Lot on East Spruce Street. The community really came together to make this project a success and we hope they enjoy it for years to come. Brayden and his fellow scouts are 11th graders at Pennridge High School. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE Monday, May 25, 9:00am

Traditions are a link to the past but also strengthen our communities and show pride for what those before us have sacrificed. The Annual Memorial Day Parade is a tradition; a reminder to each of us that many of our countrymen and women fought and died to preserve our Nation’s freedom.

In a few months, our Nation and our community will be observing Memorial Day. This year the Hartzell-Crouthamel Post #280 of the American Legion will again sponsor the annual Memorial Day Parade and ceremony. It will be held on Monday, May 25th, 2020 in Perkasie Borough. This is also a special year for the Hartzell-Courthamel Post #280 as we celebrate our 100th anniversary of our granted charter. The post was founded by veterans shortly after World War I and was named after two men who were both killed in action during the war, Calvin F. Hartzell and Earl S. Crouthamel. The post started off becoming involved in various forms of community service, had a bugle and rum corps, and sponsored the local Boy Scout Troop as well as numerous local sports teams.

The Women’s Auxiliary was organized in 1921 and in 1925 joined the Montgomery-Bucks Bi-County Council, an organization

consisting of all the units in the two counties. As well as assisting in various ways, the Auxiliary was affiliated with the Needlework Guild and was a member of the Building and Loan Association.

The Post’s headquarters was in the former Perkasie Trolley station from 1962 through 1990 until the Perkasie Historical Society

purchased the building. We are still a very active post and look forward to hosting the 2020 Parade in Perkasie. For up to date information and the scheduled parade route please visit the Perkasie Facebook page @PerkBoro. Want to get involved?

Please contact the Parks and Recreation department at: [email protected]

EMERGENCY RESPONSE – ADDRESSHow will an Ambulance find your house? How can a police officer respond to your call? Your ADDRESS NEEDS to be clearly visible

from the street, in number form, at least 4” high, and in a contrasting color from the background. Help us find you!

INTERCONNECTED SMOKE DETECTORS: Can you hear all of your smoke detectors from anywhere in your home, especially from your bedroom when you are sleeping?

• Detecting and alerting everyone in the home of the earliest presence of smoke is the surest way to preventing a fire fatality. • If you have to wait until the smoke reaches the smoke detector in your room to alert you – IT’S TOO LATE! • In today’s modern world, smoke detectors can be interconnected with wires or can communicate wirelessly. • The earliest warning of smoke will provide the greatest amount of time to escape. • The earliest warning of smoke may allow time to eliminate the source of the smoke, before it becomes a fire.

HOME FIRE DRILLS:In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Be sure

all are in working order! You should plan and practice a fire drill in your home for your family. When you are in an emergency there is no time to panic, seconds count. Plan and practice how you will get out of your home, a secondary way out, and a safe place to meet. Once you get out – Don’t go back in! Firefighters will let you know when and if it is safe to return.

Breakfast Fundraiser!Join your friends and neighbors to help support the Perkasise Fire Department! Every third Sunday of the

month from7:30 – 12:00 pm enjoy an all you can eat breakfast! Menu includes: eggs, pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, scrapple, home fries, onions and mushrooms! Adults (ages 13+) are $8 and children ages 4 through 12 are $3.50. Visit www.perkasiefd.org for more information!

Spark Technology CenterSpark Technology Center, a 35,000 square foot facility located at 700 West Park Avenue in Perkasie,

welcomes Electro-Tech Systems (ETS) to their new location. ETS designs and manufactures electrostatic simulation instruments and is an expert in environmental control glove boxes. They are joining EFE Laboratories, an experienced contract-based manufacturer.

The Spark Technology Center will serve as a start-up accelerator and incubation center for early stage

manufacturing companies. With Spark, EFE and ETS under one roof, Kip Anthony, President of the three entities, believes that Perkasie will become a hub for high-tech, specialized manufacturing companies.

We want to attract electro-mechanical manufacturers to leverage off EFE Laboratories. Spark will nurture the elements

required to grow organizations with viable products into sustainable manufacturing companies.

People know who we are.” “I saw people in Perkasie leaving to eat in Quakertown and Montgomeryville and wanted to do something about it,” exclaimed Wade. “I’ve been in the restaurant business since 2010 and own the Station Taphouse in Doylestown and the Jamison Pour House in Jamison. Our restaurants have donated more than $250,000 to different local charities groups over the past ten years.”
