2020 Alumni

New Labs

EBBL presented on McKelvey PhD Day.

Dr. He was named a

Fellow of International

Water Association (IWA),

among 17 new fellows in

2020. He is the first IWA

Fellow at WashU.

Akshay Jain completed his PhD at Virginia Tech and joined

Virginia Department of Health as a district engineer. His

doctoral work focused on hydrogen production in

microbial electrolysis cells driven by thermoelectricity.

EBBL alumnus Dr. Syeed Md Iskander

started his own lab at North Dakota

State University after completing a

postdoctoral training at University of

Southern California.

EBBL alumnus Dr. Shiqiang Zou

finished his postdoctoral training at

Stanford University and then joined

Auburn University as an Assistant

Professor.

Dr. He co-founded a new

journal – Journal of Hazardous

Materials Letters and acted as

its Co-Editor. JHM Letters is a

sister journal of Journal of

Hazardous Materials (JHM).

Dr. He was appointed the

inaugural director of the

Center for Water Innovation

(CWI), one of research

centers in McKelvey School

of Engineering.

Xingjian Liu completed his PhD at Virginia Tech and joined

Chinese Academy of Forestry in Nanjing. His wife is a

faculty member at another university. Xingjian worked on

electrochemical treatment of leachate.

Xiao Li completed her visiting research and returned to

Sun Yat-sen University to finish her PhD. She recently

obtained a lecture position at Shandong University of

Science and Technology.

Webinar

Dr. He delivered virtual

seminars to several universities

and professional organizations.

Zixuan presented virtually on NAMES 2020.

Yanran received the R.E. Speece Fellowship from Marquette

University Water Quality Center.

Dr. Hanan Moustafa completed her visiting research and

returned to Egypt. She will continue to work on our

collaborative project supported by US-Egypt Joint Fund.

Dr. Lingen Zhang completed his postdoctoral training in

EBBL and returned to China. He worked on recovery of Li

elements from spent batteries using electrochemical

methods.

He is also the Keynote Speaker on the 1st Virtual Conference of

Canada Association on Water Quality and the Honorary Speaker of

the 3rd WaterEnergyNexus Conference.

He is an inaugural speaker for

the Distinguished Seminar in

Environmental Engineering in

the CEE department, Nanyang

Technological University.
