ABOUT USBen Hoch and Mike Cerillo are self-taught, experienced business entrepreneurs, with extensive expertise in consumer goods. In 1994, Ben and Mike created a dynamic marketing company called Innovative Ideas. The initial idea of the company was to supply free dry-erase boards to college students in dorms that contained advertisements from local and national companies. In 1996 they decided to take their profits from Innovative Ideas and launch their own line of dry-erase boards called The Board Dudes.

In 2006, Ben and Mike sold The Board Dudes to Mega Bloks, a Canadian based toy company where they continued to run the stationery division for eight years.

After Mega Bloks was purchased by Mattel in 2014 Ben and Mike returned to the entrepreneurial roots and started U Brands. Their ideas were met with strong support from mass retailers and in 2015, U Brands exploded onto the stationery scene. With a few years of exponential growth,

U Brands was quickly noticed by Smead, a reputable and an established brand in the stationery industry. Smead acquired U Brands in 2017 and now the newly formed strategic partnership is built on U Brands’ plan to expand into the commercial market and Smead Manufacturing’s long-term goal of scaling through new channels and product diversification.

Smead and U Brands are the perfect partnership. Both companies share an appreciation for premium quality products, maintain loyal customer followings, and support the same charitable foundations. In connection with the strategic partnership, the companies plan to combine core competencies from both organizations. Smead Manufacturing will share its time-honored reputation, salesforce, commercial relationships and efficient distribution processes. U Brands will share its creative design work, expanded product line, retail relationships and established procurement contracts.
