Begins February 26 ADULT BIBLE STUDY ON MARK BEGINS FEBRUARY 17 This winter, Pastor Krebill is offering a new 8 week adult class on Monday evenings, starting February 17 and continuing through April 6, meeting in the Gathering Place at 7:00 PM. The class will be studying the book of Mark. All are welcome.
Studying Mark during Lent is particularly appropriate because it is notable for its insistence on what Luther would come to call the “theology of the cross.” Given the difficult situation in which Mark wrote, it might have been tempting to hold up Jesus’ miracles, power and glory as a way of assuring Christians that they would be in charge soon. Instead Mark repeatedly emphasizes the need for Jesus to suffer and die. Jesus’ followers can also expect to take the way of the cross. God’s power is experienced in the weakness of the cross. We have hope, not in our ability to make things right, but in God’s promise, validated in Christ’s death and resurrection, that ultimately God will make all things right. All are welcome to join in this 8 week study.
Ash Wednesday Worship Our 2020 Lenten journey begins with Ash Wednesday worship on Wednesday, February 26. Services will be held at 1 PM and 7 PM and will include confession, the imposition of ashes, and Holy Communion.

“CROSS WORDS” TO BE SERMON THEME ON SUNDAYS DURING LENT Using the appointed second reading for the day, mostly from Paul’s letter to the Romans, our sermons will examine two contrasting words found in the lesson. How they become “Cross Words” for us, how they help us understand what it means to be a Christian in the second decade of the 21st century will be the theme which we will pursue.

THANK YOU FRIENDS OF BETHEL! Brothers and sisters, I am blessed by your support and caring. You made my ordination a wonderful celebration of what God has done in my life and in my relationship with the church. I am beginning to really settle into my call at St. Paul's, Jefferson. We have restarted the youth group which has shown positive results, I have been blessed with strong leaders and supportive men's and women's groups. To say that I have been busy is an understatement but I am enjoying every minute of it. Mike has spent much time looking on the internet for a home in Jefferson but of the ones we have gone to see, none of them are the right one for us. Since we do not plan to move until the end of the school year, I am in no hurry to find a new home at this time. Thankfully my commute has been fairly smooth and mother nature has been kind so far with minimal lake effect snow. Please know that I think of and pray for you all often and wish you God's grace and presence in the New Year and your ministry together. Your sister in Christ, Pastor Christy Krnac

MIDVIEW HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR PERFORMS AT BETHEL On Wednesday, February 12th at 7 PM, Bethel will be hosting a concert featuring choirs from Midview High
School, under the direction of Justin Caithaml. The theme for the concert is “Word over All, Beautiful as the

main pieces featured on the concert will be Eric Whitacre’s “Five Hebrew Love Songs” and Jeffrey Van’s “A
Procession Winding Around Me,” a setting of four Walt Whitman Civil War poems. This second piece will
feature Artist-in-Residence Brent Kirby, a professional singer-songwriter whose residency at Midview this
school year is supported by a grant from the Ohio Arts Council. The Midview choirs will combine with the
