In 2020, you faced extraordinary challenges with strength, resilience and generosity.

The MultiCare Foundations 2020 Annual Generosity Report demonstrates the many ways in which isolation, fear and uncertainty were overpowered by your compassion, care and support.

COVID-19 turned our world upside down. In the early days of the pandemic, MultiCare’s health care workers faced an unprecedented health threat and serious challenges to overcome, including the global shortage of personal protective equipment, testing and treatment methods.

We found light in the darkness through the very first word in MultiCare’s mission: partnering for healing and a healthy future. We needed help, and you answered our call. From the Inland Northwest to Puget Sound, this report highlights some of the ways in which your giving provided hope, care and healing in 2020.

Thank you for partnering with us. We are grateful and honored to have your support.

Warm regards,

Dori Young Vice President MultiCare Foundations

Dear friends of the MultiCare Foundations,

Page 3: 2020 - MultiCare

IN 2020, DONORS GAVE IN THE NAME OF:

Ed and Sharie Ramos were inspired to give back to the MultiCare Foundations through a gift in their will because of the lifesaving care their daughter, Tamia, received at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Our son’s NICU nurse, who’s a tireless, selfless, wonderful caregiver.

A family member with mental illness.

The outstanding care my husband received this year.

In honor of my grandma for giving her time to benefit children in need.

Helping grieving families. Your team was loving, nurturing and made sure we were taken care of during this difficult time.

The gift of love — he passed away in one of your nurse’s arms.

A doctor’s work with children in treatment and their follow-up.

Giving some light and hope to my loved one in the hospital.

Everything going on in the world — I felt I should make another donation.

Committed to caring for childrenThanks to your gifts, children and families maintained access to high-quality care regardless of their ability to pay. Behavioral Health supportThe stress and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on behavioral health, including collective fatigue, anxiety and depression. Substance use and relapses were on the rise, as was the number of people with behavioral health issues visiting the emergency room or being voluntarily committed.

Despite those challenges, donors helped more people gain access to a continuum of treatment and support services for mental illness and Substance Use Disorder through the MultiCare Behavioral Health Network, which includes MultiCare Behavioral Health, Navos and Greater Lakes Mental Healthcare.*

17 young adults leaving foster care received supported housing through Independence Bridge

670 youth received help from a Behavioral Health navigator at the Mary Bridge Children’s Emergency Department

1,150 community members attended one or more of Kids’ Mental Health Pierce County’s nine webinars, with topics on managing school stress, racism and social justice

Children and adolescent mental health supportTo respond to the critical need of mental health support, Mary Bridge Children’s formed a coalition of more than 100 organizations and stakeholders known as Kids’ Mental Health Pierce County. The mission is to improve access and care coordination for mental health services, bolster youth mobile crisis services and ultimately develop a family wellness center in Pierce County for families and youth. Donor funds support every service offered, including key staff positions.

18 youth and families were supported through the new Behavioral Health Community Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT). The MDT brings together numerous agencies throughout Pierce County to discuss complex behavioral health cases. They assess needs and identify resources, such as outpatient service recommendations, care coordination needs and behavioral management strategies. This allows families to get all the information they need in one place.
