When you arrive on the campus of Forest Ridge, locate Lee Theatre and the Chapel inside Sacred Hart Center. Be sure to allow extra time to arrive, especially if this is your first time to the campus of Forest Ridge. Simply go directly to the performance space ready to perform. There is no check-in during the 2020 Classical Viennese Festival. Therefore, it is important to familiarize yourself with the procedures of the festival. Refer to the 2020 rules, and the information provided herein.CHANGES IN AWARDS. As stated on the Classical Viennese Festival page, award distribution will take place via mail to the instructor’s address you provided on your application form. This is to eliminate unnecessary gathering in close spaces around the festival. This year we strive to provide educational opportunities while keeping the event safe and healthy for all involved. Please allow 2-4 weeks for awards dispersal to take place. However, the staff will be posting results online throughout the day.VIDEO SUBMISSIONS. For those who have health concerns, or feel symptoms of viral infection, exceptionally for this festival, we provide the opportunity to send a video. The video must be unedited, from a single fixed camera angle showing the performer’s face and hands at all times. Performers are encouraged to wear the appropriate attire. Videos should be uploaded to YouTube and set to public access. Only videos sent on or before 3 pm on Sunday, March 15 will be accepted. Mail the link with the performer’s name to [email protected]. The SIPF cannot promise that the adjudicators will have the opportunity to evaluate these
1
performances, and additional “video only” categories may be allotted for this purpose. Students sending videos are still eligible to receive medals, certificates, and commentary.Anyone who exhibits coughing or sneezing will be asked to leave the premises of the festival.Maps and complete information have been provided in the links above. No program booklets will be available during the event. Simply refer to the program and schedule below (a .pdf copy of which can be found here), or print a physical copy for yourself. Requests to change the given schedule and/or order will be denied.
ARRIVALWhen making your way to Forest Ridge:▪ arrive 20-30 minutes prior to anticipated performance time▪ wash your hands thoroughly before and after the performance (we will continue to
disinfect the keys and bench throughout the day, but cannot disinfect between each performer); depending on supply, we will attempt to have hand sanitizers available throughout the facility
▪ in order to avoid crowding, we urge you to treat this like an audition and come for your time slot and leave
▪ it is recommended you do not bring extended family for this festival, and do not participate if you or any family member is currently ill
▪ pre-plan your route to Forest Ridge (Somerset can be confusing)▪ locate your venue and best parking option
BEFORE PERFORMANCE▪ ensure you have legal copies of your music with measures numbered at the start of each
line To make this year’s festival safer and eliminate the risk of physical contact, we have waived the requirement to provide a copy of the score for the judge; simply approach the performance area, bow, and perform your selection when the adjudicator calls your name.
▪ if your music is out of print, you may provide a legally-obtained printed copy, provided you include a fully completed and signed STATEMENT OF LEGAL USE OF MUSIC SCORE (click the attachment); without this form, judges will not accept the participant’s copy
DURING THE PERFORMANCEPlease respect all performers for the day. The SIPF does not post volunteers at every venue during the festival. The SIPF relies upon its participants and guests to help enforce and promote a positive environment conducive to the spirit of the event. Help us by:▪ never entering or exiting performance venues when a performance is in progress▪ remaining quiet during performances (refrain from candy wrapper noise, paper shuffling,
etc.)▪ bringing no infants or toddlers in the performance area▪ recording/filming only your own family member, and never someone from whom you
have not received permission to record▪ dressing appropriately for performance▪ avoiding direct contact with the judge except when handing or retrieving music scores
(otherwise seat oneself at minimum twelve feet from the adjudicator) Scores are not required, but it is even more important than ever to give the adjudicator space; we
2
likewise recommend all participants and attendees to utilize the space and avoid congested seating
▪ handing your open book(s) to the judge when your name or number is called, page open to the relevant place, according to desired performance order
▪ taking your music again from the judge when he or she has finished written commentary▪ it is strongly urged not to remain for the entire performance — as long as you quietly
enter and exit spaces exclusively between performers, you may enter prior to your performance and leave after; comments and awards will be distributed via mail
AFTER YOUR PERFORMANCE▪ awards will be distributed 15-25 minutes immediately following the conclusion of a
division▪ awards will be conducted in the lower level (near the restrooms) of Sacred Heart Center
(Building 700), the same building in which the chapel performance venue is located▪ as mentioned above, you may arrive prior to your performance and leave immediately
after to avoid the risk of spreading viruses — be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before AND after performance
▪ awards will be sent to your teachers’ address that you provided▪ awards will be posted on the SIPF website throughout the day
Please be respectful of the music, the process, the performers (who have worked so hard), the judges and organizers. All results of the day of the festival are final. Please refrain from any hostility towards either the adjudicators or organizers due to results. The SIPF reserves the right to exclude disrespectful performers and teachers from future events. Please help us to make this event a celebration about music. We look forward to hearing your performances on March 15!
Sincerely,Seattle International Piano Festival
