“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world,

but that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16-17

Easter Blessings to All!

Easter is a great time of joy and excitement for our children. Little ones are still learning about the true meaning of Easter. It’s a lot of fun knowing about bunnies and baskets of candy, but it is so important for them to understand that Jesus loves us so much, that he gave his life for us so that we are forgiven. Our Sunday School lessons teach of the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made and His never-ending love for us!

+Our Sunday School Mission, “Feed Our Furry Friends”, began on March 1st and will continue through the summer. We will be collecting dog and cat food as well as other items for our Dutchess County SPCA. There is advice on current technology with movie, games, book and music reviews.

+Our “Bring a Friend” to Sunday School is ongoing. Both will receive a prize from Miss Kris’ Treasure Chest. It’s great to meet new children and be able to share God’s love with them. Whoever brings the most friends/relatives will receive a Regal Movie gift certificate!

PIGGY BANK BAZAAR

Greetings from Kermit! Here we are, already in April. Pretty soon the world will start to turn GREEN. Each of the seasons has its own beauty, but somehow the whole “green” thing is special to us frogs. Even with the change of season, though, Piggy Bank Bazaar keeps right on going!!

April’s Wednesday Morning Workshops are pending the re-opening of the church building. When they take place, they will be at 9:30 am in room 15 of the Education Center. (NOTE that there’s no meeting on the 8th!) Mrs. Ray (my nice human friend who will keep all of us apprised of any changes in the schedules and plans) reminds me that there are always several projects underway, and some are just bound to be perfect for YOU! The Workshop folks continue to be very busy making goodies, and it would be great if YOU would JOIN IN THE FUN!

Take Home Kit Sunday, the day Kits are given out to members of the congregation, will be May 17th. There will be lots of crafty Kits available, and we need EVERYONE to stop by after the service and take one (or more!) The Kits are due back just before the Bazaar, so you’ll have lots of time to work on them! If you’d like to create some Kits for others to complete, please contact Carol Ray.

We are in need of some supplies. The Workshop folks really enjoy making flower arrangements, but right now we are in need of silk flowers, floral foam, floral moss, and small to medium sized vases and baskets. We’ll need at least 50 mugs by November, and that supply is currently low, too. We also need basket grass (like Easter grass), jewelry making supplies, pearls, polyester stuffing, calendars with nice pictures, bells (we have used a lot of bells recently), paint brushes, craft paints, glitter, yardsticks, plastic storage tubs, scissors, pompoms, macramé cord, leather lacing, polished rocks, seashells, wiggle eyes, duct tape, stickers, yarn, large handled gift bags, grocery bags with handles, Christmas gift wrapping, tissue paper, and gift bags. Screw drivers, wire cutters, pliers, new nails, screws, washers, hooks, etc., and other craft supplies will be useful to us, too. We really enjoy creating gifts from your generous donations, and our offerings at the Bazaar will also include new gift items that are not hand crafted.

I’ll be around from time to time, looking in on the Workshops, and I hope to see YOU there. Until then, it’s time for me to hop down to the pond, which is starting to show a few signs of SPRING!! Yours in love,

Kermit

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus problem we are dealing with,

Outreach continues to be concerned with our church family and the community. We continue to keep in touch with many of our senior church family members

as well as our homeless guests.

We will continue to order food for our monthly commitment to the Shelter.

We are also in continuous contact with our American heroes at Liberty Station.

The Mission of the Month for March was Meals on Wheels of Wappingers Falls.

Since we have not had in-church services, you can still send in your donations via a check and memo Mission of the Month.

April's Mission of the Month and Easter Special Offering is for Rural & Migrant Ministry. You may still send in your donations via mail.

We wish everyone to continue to be safe and healthy until we all meet again in our Sanctuary at NHRC.

God Bless

RMM begins with people. We are a diverse coalition of people from big cities, small towns and rural areas across New York State, young and old, affluent and poor, representing cultures from around the globe. Some of us work in Manhattan skyscrapers, some in offices and organizations around the state, some are members of communities of faith, some are students, activists, or civil rights leaders…while others work in the orchards of the Hudson Valley, the poultry farms of Sullivan County, the dairy farms in mid-state, the vineyards of the Finger Lakes, the fruit and vegetable farms along Lake Ontario and the nurseries in Long Island. We stand as a community in solidarity – passionate, creative, and committed to empowering people to work for

justice in rural New York State. RMM makes a difference in people's lives through three program areas: Accompaniment – RMM accompanies rural workers – especially farmworkers – who seek to improve working and living conditions. For over 18 years RMM has coordinated the statewide Justice for Farmworkers Campaign that has sought to ensure that the voice of the workers is heard at the policy-making tables that impact their lives… Education – Experiential and Popular education are key components of RMM's effort to build up and strengthen rural leaders, and to raise the consciousness and support of their allies in the faith, labor and student communities. RMM hosts the Liturgia Rural Workers Center in Wayne County (western NY) and the Long Island Workers Center in Riverhead. RMM's annual Rural Women's Assembly provides opportunities for women across the State to gather in love without judgement to learn from one another and network.

Through our Education programming, we also work with allies in the faith, labor and student communities to raise consciousness and garner support for worker justice. We host delegations, Speakers' Forums, Conferences and Alternative Spring Break programs for college students. During 2018 we had more than 40 college interns working across the state. Youth Empowerment – Since the 1980's, we have been firmly committed to empowering rural children to create opportunities for themselves while at the same time learning how to change their world. Our programs offer a variety of experiences that nurture awareness, creativity, problem-solving and leadership development… Our programs begin with meeting children in our summer camps. From there, older children have the opportunity to participate in Leadership Academies and Institutes as well as the Youth Arts Group (YAG) and Economic Education Group (YEG)…Supplementing these programs are high school and college Internship Programs (RMM has trained over 200 interns) and two scholarship programs.

A UNIQUE COVENANT…Although RMM is an independent, non-sectarian 501(c)(3), much of our strength over the last thirty-five years has come from our Covenant with many communities of faith across New York State. New Hackensack Reformed Church and the Regional Synod of New York, Reformed Church in America are original covenanting faith communities that continue their support to the present. Your gifts to support that covenant help the remarkable staff of RMM continue their amazing work. We are grateful that you continue the journey with us! MISSION OF THE MONTH for APRIL and our EASTER OFFERING has been designated to support the mission and vision of Rural & Migrant Ministry.

JUNE 19, 2019!!! After more than 20 YEARS of working with legislators, farmworkers and their allies, hundreds of children, youth and adults, marching across the state, holding vigils and lots of prayers, the unthinkable finally happened!!! NOW WHAT!!! First…Thanks to the hard work of our Managing & Development Director, Laura Lecour, we have been able to secure a few substantial grants that are enabling us hire 2 Outreach Workers at each of our centers to encourage rural families - including farm working families - to be sure they fill out the Census Form. Assuring immigrant folks that they are fully protected from any detention possibilities or threats of deportation has been a large part of their work. The Department of Labor has been so helpful in giving out information on everyone's rights and encouraging all to be counted…Unions have long offered help, but without the support of the Farmworker Bill, it was difficult at best and next to impossible at worst. Being able to partner with those organizations that have experience and people in place to help is a great benefit. Next…All our Faith Partners and Community Organizations that have been there for all the years are feeling much more empowered to be involved in helping us create the next part of the journey. RMM needs allies ready and willing to help. Currently we are in the planning stages of two Annual Fundraising Dinners – one on Long Island and the other in NYC. We need sponsors and dedicated donors to help make these events successful. Invitations for the NYC Dinner, to be held on May 4th, will be coming soon. No gift is too small! Close to Home…Because your hearts are always with the children and youth, we WILL BE offering summer Day Camps and other Empowerment Programs at all our centers over the summer when we will be joined by several college interns to help be sure everyone is welcomed and creativity encouraged. Over Night Camp will be held at Fresh Air's Camp Mariah in Fishkill, August 23 – 29. Our summer theme across the state will be AWAKEN…focusing on helping youth become aware of their rights and how to address those issues in their schools and communities which tend to stifle their voices and efforts to help bring positive change. On behalf of Rev. Richard Witt, Executive Director, the entire RMM Staff and Board, and all those who stand with us, as well as those we seek to minister to and with throughout the year, we covet your continued prayers and support as we begin a new chapter on the JOURNEY TO JUSTICE!! - With Gratitude, Jane Konitz. RMM Board Secretary
