A SPECIAL VIRTUAL & SAFE WELCOME TO ALL!

Today’s 2020 Annual Virtual Conference is historic. The Parkinson Association of Northern California (PANC) is honored that you have invested time, resources and energy to be with us together…virtually.

As we all know from experience, life can throw unexpected challenges and disruptive events at us that need to be managed with all the ingenuity and compassion we can muster. The Board, 20 sponsors and 35 exhibitors who join us today wish we were

enjoying an in-person event with warm hugs, high-fives and lots of laughter.

Instead, the 2020 PANC Annual Virtual Conference will be remembered as another example of the PANC community pulling together for the journey and showing the grit and determination of People with Parkinson’s (PwP), caregivers, medical and health professionals, and support organizations. Venturing into this new virtual environment has not been easy, but we have grown, learned and advanced, and I think you can take a virtual bow for the many accomplishments during this season.

This year, PANC is thrilled to introduce you to Dr. Soania Mathur -- passionate advocate, author, and recipient of the World Parkinson Congress Distinguished Contribution Award. Dr. Mathur is accompanied by an amazing roster of leading Parkinson’s medical professionals who will share their experience, perspectives and counsel with you.

Please take the time to explore our exhibit hall, which features the services of the sponsors and exhibitors. Their services and products can help improve life; and without them, this PANC Annual Virtual Conference would not be possible.

Enjoy! Learn all you can! Get some answers! Take away some new resources…and remember, throughout the year, that PANC is here for you – in person, virtually, and of course, in spirit!

BLESSINGS & HOPESubmitted by Irene and Jim Duggan

Sacramento/Natomas PD Support Group

I have been blessed in so many ways, but I certainly did not think so when I first became aware of “The Tremor”.

I’ll never forget that day when I was diagnosed with PD in 2015 by Dr. Malhado-Chang. She emphatically stated she would not dispense medication unless I promised to exercise, exercise, exercise, which was my first blessing.

I was also blessed when directed to the Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre in Davis. Now I lose myself in all kinds of dance whether Line Dancing, Zumba or Rock n’ Roll.

I was then blessed at my first dance class when greeted by Dorothy Ross who introduced me to her Davis Support Group. She is a wonderful friend.

Although I truly hate having PD I approach all my days from a positive place. And I now count my blessings which start when I wake up and have been given another day.

A positive attitude makes each day better and makes bad days tolerable. This is a blessing too.

My husband Jim, another blessing, and I refuse to let the fear of what the future will bring consume us. We fight this as partners.

We have HOPE. We are living longer and may be around for the cure. Strides are being made in research including gene cell implantation. Already Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is profoundly changing treatment options for many.

We certainly are blessed to be at this point in the history of Parkinson’s disease.

We wish you HOPE and encourage you to COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS.
