Systems and Societies will combine aspects of lab science with social science to present curriculum that may be more accessible to a wider range of students.

This course curriculum would reinforce many of the standards tied to the current Keystone Biology standards in Module B – Ecology and Human Interactions with the environment.

Much of the curriculum is outlined by the International Baccalaureate Program and independent curriculum writing would be limited. Course documents could be assembled during the 2019-2020 school year with no curriculum writing funds necessary.

Cyber Security (CS350)……………………………..…………………………1.0 credit Prerequisite: Successful completion of CS250 or CS850. This course gives students a broad exposure to the many aspects of digital and information security, while encouraging socially responsible choices and ethical behavior. It inspires algorithmic thinking, computational thinking, and especially, “outside-the-box” thinking. Students explore the many educational and career paths available to cybersecurity experts, as well as other careers that comprise the field of information security. The course includes problem-based learning, where students role-play as cybersecurity experts and train as cybersecurity train.

expense will be the need for a summer training workshop on new course through PTLW for one instructor.

There is no cost for the materials since we are already a PTLW school and will be able to use PTLW curriculum.

This is a Project Lead the Way course. Expenses need to deliver the course would be covered by PLTW funds.

Students learn the basic concepts of cybersecurity by leveraging their familiarity with technology they use every day, such as mobile devices and apps, as well as exploring the risks associated with how they use their email, personal files, and social networking habits.

Unit 2: System Security Students broaden their cybersecurity knowledge from a personal system to a networked system. They learn how to assess the value of information security and delve deeper into types of malware. They learn the security vulnerabilities of web services and how to secure an Ecommerce site.

Unit 3: Network Security Students learn the technical aspects of a highly networked world and the risks to information we all share. They learn operating system and networking concepts,

security frameworks, and packet analysis. They learn the types of malware that can attack systems on a network and how to secure and protect a system against them

Unit 4: Applied Cybersecurity Students explore cybersecurity in an applied field. They learn methods of cryptography and practice basic tenets of digital forensics. They process a crime scene to solve the mystery and explore the possible consequences of the crime.

This course allows students to explore English through its cultural development and use, its media forms and functions, and its literature. From rap lyrics to graphic novels to speeches to poetry, this course introduces the critical study and interpretation of written and spoken texts from a wide range of literary and non-literary genres. The formal analysis of texts is supplemented by awareness that meaning is not fixed but can change in respect to contexts of production and consumption. Students develop skills of literary and textual analysis, and also the ability to present their ideas effectively. A key aim is the development of critical literacy across genre, text, and media.

IB Math Applications SL (IB443) ………………………………….…… 1.0 credit(w) Prerequisite: Successful completion of MA311. The course concentrates on mathematics that can be applied to contexts related as far as possible to other subjects being studied, to common real-world occurrences and to topics that relate to home, work and leisure situations. The course includes project work, a feature unique within this group of courses: students must produce a project, a piece of written work based on personal research, guided and supervised by the teacher. The project provides an opportunity for students to carry out a mathematical investigation in the context of another course being studied, a hobby or interest of their choice, using skills learned before and during the course. This process allows students to ask their own questions about mathematics and to take responsibility for a part of their own course of studies in mathematics. The students most likely to select this course are those whose main interests lie outside the field of mathematics, and for many students this course will be their final experience in formal mathematics. All parts of the syllabus have therefore been carefully selected to ensure that an approach starting with first principles can be used. As a consequence, students can use their own inherent, logical thinking skills and do not need to rely on standard algorithms and remembered formulae. The objective of this course is to introduce students to a broad range of topics associated with the study of psychology. Topics included in this course are: psychology as a behavioral science, human learning, physiological psychology, motivation, feeling and emotion, sensation and perception, memory, child development, adolescence, intelligence, stress, personality, and abnormal behavior. Students will use objective methods of the scientific research to explore topics and participate in discussions, create projects, and relate situations from their own environment to the course content.
