We start our vacation by boarding a Direct Flight to Beijing, the huge capital of China and an ancient city of great splendor whose history goes back 3 millennia.

Upon arrival at Beijing International Airport, an Air & Sea travel representative will greet us and take us to the Temple of Heaven, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is widely regarded as the noblest example of religious architecture in all of China. This is where emperors came to worship heaven for a bountiful harvest. The design shows that heaven is high and the earth is low and reflects an ancient Chinese saying: 'the heaven is round and the earth is square’. Then we will visit a Fresh-water Pearl Shop. After lunch, we will check into our hotel, and can either explore the city or enjoy free time on our own.

Today’s highlight is the fabled Great Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a massive defensive structure built to keep intruders out. China has many things to see, but the one great wonder is the Great Wall. We will learn about its construction 2,000 years ago and examine first-hand one of the most scenic portions of its 5,500-mile length wall. The Great Wall is 25 feet tall, 15-30 feet wide and is the largest object ever made by humans. The view is awesome! We will see the exterior of two iconic venues of the 2008 Olympics – the "Bird's Nest" (Beijing National Stadium) and the "Water Cube" (National Aquatics Center) where American Michael Phelps won 8 gold medals. Then, we will visit a Jade Workshop to learn about Chinese jade culture. Our next stop is Wangfujing Street, a large shopping street with lots of restaurants like KFC. We may not be accustomed to the non-western style of shopping here, but it is fun to browse. Lastly, we will go to the Red Theater to learn about the amazing Chinese martial art by watching the Legend of Kungfu.

This morning, we will walk around Tiananmen Square, probably the largest and most magnificent public square in the world. We will then explore the Forbidden City, the largest and most well-preserved imperial palace and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This vast and exotic palace was brilliantly captured in the movie “The Last Emperor”. It was the seat of supreme power for over five centuries from 1416 to 1911. The Forbidden City, with its landscaped gardens and numerous buildings with nearly 10,000 rooms containing furniture and works of art, constitute a priceless testimony to Chinese civilization during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Today, we will have a meal at a special restaurant known for its Buddhist Vegetarian Meal: mock meats and seafood all cleverly created from variations of bean curd. Let’s give it a try. In the afternoon, we get a glimpse into Beijing’s past by visiting the Hutongs (alleys formed by lines of siheyuan or traditional courtyard residences). The word "hutong" is Mongolian in origin, meaning a "water well". In olden times, digging new wells created new communities. Later it was referred to as narrow streets or lanes formed by quadrangles. A Traditional Rickshaw will take us into a Hutong, where we will visit a local family. We will also see a Guoguo Cricket Show that is definitely another experience worth seeing. Tonight’s welcome dinner features China’s famous Peking Duck, a dish that has been prepared since the imperial era. The meat is prized for its thin, crisp skin, with authentic versions of the dish serving mostly the skin and little meat, sliced in front of the diners by the cook. Ducks bred specially for this dish are slaughtered after 65 days and seasoned before being roasted. The meat, scallions, cucumbers, and a sweet bean sauce are wrapped in a thin pancake before eating it. Sometimes pickled radish and other sauces (like hoisin sauce) are used. In 2012, The Huffington Post ranked Peking duck number 1 in its list of "10 Foods Around The World To Try Before You Die".

*Fangzhuang Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant: Founded in 1864 and still owned and run by the same family, Quanjude is famous as the home of Beijing duck. Farmed locally, the ducks are roasted over an open fire, where fruit-tree wood gives them their special fragrance. The duck will be sliced before your eyes before slivers of duck – famed for the layer of juicy fat which lies under a crisp golden-brown skin – are rolled in pancakes with shallots and cucumber. The carving and tasting of the Quanjude roast duck is a must for visitors to Beijing.

Legend of Kungfu: the story is about a young boy who overcomes many obstacles and difficulties to pursue his dream of being a Kung Fu master and attain enlightenment. He studies in the temple as a little boy and practices Kung Fu.

Xi’an (B, L, D) After enjoying the hotel breakfast, we will visit one of the most exciting archaeological finds of the 20th Century – the Terracotta Warriors, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Terracotta Army or the “Terracotta Warriors and Horses" is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BC and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife. Archeologists estimate there were over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which are still buried in the pits. For souvenirs, we will visit the Reproduction Factory. Then we will transfer to Muslim Street lined with various restaurants and stalls, some specializing in cakes, dried fruit, and snacks. The most famous dishes of Xi’an are available on Muslim Street, including Marinated Meat in a Baked Bun, Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup, Bean Threads in Shaanxi Flavoring, and Xi’an Dumplings. Tonight, we will attend the famous Tang Dynasty Dinner & Show that portrays the luxurious life during the Tang Dynasty.

After breakfast, we will take a short flight to Shanghai, the most populous city in China. Due to its rapid growth in the last two decades, it has again become a global city, exerting influence over finance, commerce, fashion, and culture. Upon arrival, an Air & Sea Travel representative will greet us and escort us to our hotel. We can either explore the city or enjoy free time on our own.

Shanghai Disneyland Park is a theme park located in Pudong, Shanghai. As the sixth in the world and the second in China (after Hong Kong Disneyland), Shanghai Disneyland holds many records among the Disney parks. It has the tallest themed Castle – Enchanted Storybook Castle, the first garden-designed zone, and the first pirate-themed garden. It also combines movie figures with Chinese culture, like the Chinese Zodiac Murals in the Gardens of Imagination. Visitors can also enjoy classical musicals and stage plays, like Tarzan: Call of the Jungle, Frozen: A Sing-along Celebration, and The Lion King. Mickey's Storybook Express cruises through the six parks during the day. With inspiring music, the movie figures put on interesting performances on the street and give guests an unforgettable great time. Round trip transportation and admission are included.

In the morning, we board a flight to Xi’an, one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. Xi’an held that position under several of the most important dynasties in Chinese history. We will visit the City Wall – one of the few ancient city walls still standing in China. It refers to a defensive system used to protect towns and cities in China in pre-modern times. The system consisted of walls, towers, and gates which were often built to a uniform standard throughout the Empire. Tonight, let’s enjoy a local cuisine that includes Dumplings or Jiaozi. It is considered part of Chinese Cuisine and typically consists of ground meat and/or vegetable filling wrapped in a thinly rolled piece of dough and then sealed by pressing or crimping the edges together. Common meat fillings are pork, mutton, beef, chicken, fish, and shrimp, and is usually mixed with chopped vegetables. Popular vegetable fillings include Napa cabbage, scallion (spring onions), leek, celery and garlic chives. Dumplings are eaten with a soy sauce-based dipping sauce that may include vinegar, garlic, ginger, rice wine, hot sauce, and sesame oil.

*De Fa Chang Dumpling Restaurant: has many specialty dishes, but the most famous is Jiaozi made of Shark fin. Another kind of Jiaozi is the size of a small fingertip and filled with chicken meat. It is called a pearl Jiaozi and is boiled in a hotpot of chrysanthemum soup. Today, the words are different, for having one Jiaozi, means to go off smoothly, and two Jiaozi for double happiness at the same time. While enjoying Jiaozi, you can listen to the story and receive a blessing in China.

Tang Dynasty Show: based on the life of the famous historical figure in China: Empress Wu Ze-tian of the Tang Dynasty (618-907AD). Empress Wu was born in 624 and became a concubine of the Tang Emperor when she was only 14 years old. Years of living in the palace made her tough and smart, growing up from a simple and innocent young girl into a hardened and sophisticated court politics player. With her wisdom, talents, and persistence, she managed to become the first wife of the emperor and in 690 ascended the throne to be the empress in her own right after her husband died. With a classical Chinese live orchestra and a state-of-art stage design, this five-part dance and music show will bring back to us the legendary Empress Wu Ze-tian and the glory and splendor of the Great Tang Empire.

Today’s highlight is Shanghai Wild Animal Park, the first national wildlife park established by the Shanghai Municipal Government. The park is divided into two areas: one for walking and one accessible only by bus. It is one of the AAAAA national visiting spots and has approximately 10,000 animals such as giraffes, zebras, antelopes, White Rhinoceroses, nationally protected Giant Pandas, Snub-nosed Monkeys, and Chinese Tigers. In the bus accessible area, a gentle giraffe elongates his neck and awaits us. We will see the cheetah, the fastest animal in the world with speeds up to 110 km per hour; African lion, the king of beasts; Clumsy bear begging for food from the passing buses; and Majestic tiger watching the vehicles. In the performance hall, we will be entertained by well trained animal actors that have amazing skills and cooperate with each other. Tonight, we will enjoy the most popular show - Chinese Acrobatic Show, ERA.

The Bund is the Landmark of Shanghai, with many historical buildings along the river. All these buildings were used by government organizations a few years back. Now, there are many restaurants, bars, clubs and boutiques in them. This morning, we will explore the Special Economic Zone of Pudong and walk along the East Side of Huangpu River with memorable views of the Bund and PuDong (the new financial district). Afterwards, we will visit the Oriental Pearl Tower (Second Ball), a TV tower that was the tallest structure in China from 1994–2007. It is classified as an AAAAA scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration. We have arranged a visit to a Silk Factory to see the process of silk production, from silk worms to finished products and shop for silk products in the gift shop. Tonight, a special night tour has been arranged--a Boat Ride on the Huangpu River. We will be treated to a night view of Shanghai with buildings and towers ablaze with colorful lights. Shanghai's landmark, the Oriental Pearl Tower, is especially bright and clear and stands out at night.

After breakfast, we have free time to explore the city in the morning. We will have Shanghai Dim Sum Meal for lunch. After that, we will visit the Bazaar or Open Market at the City God Temple. We can enjoy shopping for souvenirs or checking out food shops. Tonight, we will transfer to the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport for our return flight home via Beijing.

Our flight to Honolulu leaves after midnight, ending our wonderful tour in China.We arrive at Honolulu on June 10 at approximately 5:30 PM.

ERA Show: their death-defying acrobatic acts are excellent and should top other shows you may have seen. This 90 minute show with extremely skillful performers is one of the must-do-things or highlights in Shanghai.

** Lu Bo Lang Restaurant: With more than 30 years history, Lu Bo Lang Restaurant is a popular destination for national and foreign government officials. Its variety of delicate Soviet-styled dim sum is widely praised. It is also famous for its unique view of Yuyuan Garden Bridge of Nine Turns.This restaurant has played host to world leaders attending the APEX Summit, as well as President Bill Clinton and President Fidel Castro.The Lu Bo Corridor faces the mid-lake pavilion. With an elegant and quaint aroma, it serves Shanghai food, and is especially noted for Shanghai snacks like Crab Powder Stuffed Bun (steamed in small bamboo utensils). Vegetable and Meat Steamed Dumpling, Date Paste Stuffed Crisp Cake and Three Shreds Crisp Pastry.
