• M-DCPS will host a variety of summer camps at elementary, K-8 and middle schools throughout the district.• The Summer Camps program will begin June 10, 2019, and end August 16, 2019.• The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.• Breakfast and lunch are free for all campers.• Both grant-funded and fee-based programs available. • Collaboration with The Children’s Trust and municipal Parks & Recreation camps.

Summer Reading

• Each rising 1st and 2nd grader will receive two books and a summer reading journal to keep at home as part of their home library.

• Each rising 7th and 8th grader who is reading significantly below grade level (FSA Level 1) will receive one book to keep at home as part of their home library.

• Summer Reading Lists for grades K-12 were provided to all school sites to share with parents and post on their websites.

Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP)

The program will recruit and connect approximately 2,700 youth between the ages of 15 and 18 (including youth with disabilities and youth transitioning out of foster care through age 22) who live in Miami-Dade County to summer internship opportunities.

Along with receiving stipends, program participants will also earn high school course credits and be given the opportunity to earn college credits.

The District will provide links to online applications, tools, and games that students can access 24/7, via the Student Portal, from any place with internet connectivity.

These resources will allow students in grades K-12 to practice and apply what they learned during the school year, and to explore new concepts.

Content will include both open source and district-licensed applications.

Access to individualized educational digital tools via personal devices and partnerships with libraries and other community based organizations with internet connectivity

eLearning Toolbox: Mobile Device Summer Checkout – High Schools Only

Summer Prep Programs

Senior high school students who passed Algebra 1 course, but failed the Algebra 1 End of Course (EOC) assessment, will be eligible to check out mobile devices from their schools in order to participate in online Algebra 1 EOC assessment prep modules.

Rising seniors who failed the ELA Florida Standards Assessment will be eligible to check out mobile devices from their schools to access Khan Academy’s online SAT prep.

Adult education centers located at senior high schools will open their media centers for students in need of Internet access.
