1 2019 S A Show Jumping President’s Report Dear Members It’s been an eventful year (and a half) for South African Showjumping with all the challenges presented by the Covid 19 pandemic, which has turned our sport, both locally and globally, on its head. In general, our members have been compliant and understanding and have kept the bigger picture in focus so that we may return to normality, even if this is something of a ‘new normal’. Hopefully in the coming months we are going to be able to resume National level competition again and get our under-utilised equestrian athletes back up to speed and the sport back on track. I on behalf of the National Executive would like to thank those that have assisted us during these difficult times and assure you of our ongoing support. We have had our challenges in recent times with our Federation and these are ongoing, hopefully these will be ironed out in the near future so that we can all get on with our duties in a constructive fashion. We are in an election year and these will be held at our AGM, myself and two long serving members of the EXCO, namely Di Baxter and Bruce Dewar, will not be standing for re-election and we would like to wish our replacements all the best going forward and our ongoing support, should it be required. To Bruce and Di thank- you for all your tireless years of dedication and commitment to our sport. Good luck for the year ahead. Dear Members

It’s been an eventful year (and a half) for South African Showjumping with all the challenges presented by the Covid 19 pandemic, which has turned our sport, both locally and globally, on its head. To Bruce and Di thank-you for all your tireless years of dedication and commitment to our sport. Good luck for the year ahead.

The SASJ Annual Awards Evening was held on the 21st November at the Indaba Conference Centre for all the 2018 SA Title, Rankings and other event awards. SASJ has over 110 Trophies which were awarded as well as certificates and SA Protea Colours obtained in 2018.

2019 SASJ Challenge Overall Winners This event is always a favourite especially in the smaller provinces where Athletes don’t always get to travel and

compare themselves to riders in other provinces. The Children’s classes are also based on the FEI Children’s Classics with Pony’s and horses competing together to assist the smaller provinces with not very many riders in either children’s or

ponies. This year’s courses were designed by Brett Webber. There were 4 provinces that held a Challenge event in their provinces – KZN, Gauteng, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.

2019 FEI Jumping Challenges – RSA Legs

This was the first year that we have held the FEI Jumping Challenge in 2 Provinces. Gauteng had their usual 3 Legs: Leg 1 @ Maple Ridge Equestrian Farm, Leg 2 @ Fourways Riding Centre and Leg 3 @ Kyalami Equestrian Park. KwaZulu Natal this year had their first FEI Jumping Challenges – kindly organized by the KZN Show Jumping Committee with Leg 1 & 2 at Durban Shongweni Club and Leg 3 a month later also at Durban Shongweni Club. This has worked well with Western Cape applying to host 3 legs of the FEI Jumping Challenge which unfortunately has not been able to happen due to Covid 19. This is also a great event for riders who never get to compete outside their province as well as for getting experience at this kind of event as it is used for qualification for ACES Championships and Youth Olympic Games. We were also able to accommodate some of the Group IX Athletes at these events.
