It has helped my daughter become more interactive and make new friends within the building. New Destiny continues its work as a co-convener

of the Family Homelessness Coalition to ensure that homeless housing resources are equitably shared among homeless families with children, including those fleeing domestic violence. During the past year, the Coalition successfully advocated for a City Council bill to increase the number of social workers in schools with large concentrations of homeless children; and helped HPD shape an RFQ for organizations interested in providing services to families placed in homeless set-aside units. Visit the Coalition’s website at www.fhcnyc.org.

Advocacy

New units of permanent, affordable housing for domestic violence

survivors were under construction in our first joint ventures with for-profit developers — one in Jamaica, Queens and one in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The Jamaica project is New Destiny’s first development in Queens.

146

Supporters and colleagues celebrated New Destiny’s 25th anniversary and

our honorees — David L. Picket, President, Gotham Organization, Inc.; Molly Park, Deputy Commissioner, NYC Dept. of Housing Preservation and Development; and The New York Community Trust, accepted by Natasha Lifton, Senior Program Officer, Promising Futures/ Human Services.

280

HousingLink workshops were conducted on-site at NYC Family Justice Centers and

domestic violence shelters. The workshops offer domestic violence survivors, service providers and advocates critical information on affordable housing options and rental subsidies.

36

Unique visitors sought help through our online

Housing Resource Center which continues to be the “go to” resource for both advocates and domestic violence survivors seeking accurate and up-to-date information on subsidies and rental assistance programs, conducting a successful housing search, overcoming common housing challenges, and referrals and linkages to other resources.
